On our program children learn how to complete safety knots so horses can be released in the event of an emergency. Below is a video of one of them doing a knot with his eyes closed. 🪢🐴

Recognising positives of disabilities! 🧠

A lot of people are very quick to assume that having a disability can only mean bad things. This is not accurate 🤯

This diagram gives an amazing example, these are some of the many positives of ADHD ✨️

It is so important to recognise the positives included in disabilities! This way we can help empower those rather than put down 🥰

🧠 How are horses therapeutic? 🧠

🤯 Horses can be used as a way of helping children and adults with Trauma, anxiety, depression and PTSD. 🤯

🐎 There are many reasons why horses are therapeutic
- They are calm animals which can feel your emotions
- They can mirror our emotions

👩🏻‍🦰 It helps develop:
- confidence
- emotional awareness
- social skills
- trust in others
- trust in self
- empathy

Horses build relationships though energy, sensing intentions, emotions and mirroring they are non judgemental and do not hold grudges, they accept you for being you. This allows us to let go of our coping mechanisms and reconnect with our emotions to create change. New skills learnt in Building Relationships with horses can be translated to people ❤️

Last week we promoted our Changing Lives programme to grant providers and supporters. The programme is run by your donations. You can help change someone’s life 🐴

This is Charlie’s story:

"…I was a 14-year-old who really struggled with everyday life.

Before I started the Changing Lives programme, I battled myself everyday as I struggled with my mental health, I didn't believe in myself or my own abilities. Attending Happy Hooves on the Changing Lives programme was my final bit of hope that my life could be different.

I am now 19 years old and I am thriving! I can talk to people comfortably and do normal things; even challenging things, confidently.

Attending the Changing Lives programme has definitely improved my mental health and my outlook on life.

I am very thankful for Changing Lives at Happy Hooves Riding Centre and I hope more people can be given the life changing opportunity to attend this programme."

Changing Lives Through Horses

Woodbine stables this year became a CLTH centre, with staff having trained to deliver the programme. CLTH can provide a " safe place" for children who have experienced trauma or adverse experiences.
We are passionate about working with young people, and if we can provide an environment that helps children and young people who are at risk of becoming disengaged or excluded from education, or needs that mean they need support to maintain their school placement, we can help to provide that through the CLTH programme.

The aim of the programme is to develop and support communication, team work, confidence, perseverance, build relationships and responsibility.
We have frameworks that lead to a pathway that is right for the young person, they offer horse care, ridden modules, with structured awards and certificates that recognise and reward achievements, these skills are transferable back to school or further education opportunities.

British Horse Society Changing Lives Through Horses program is an educational character building program which encompasses The development of life skills and academic achievement within an equine environment through structured award based program that links to national curriculum.

The program is aimed at children and young people from the age of 5 to 25 who may be disengaged with education and or have additional SEN that would benefit from access to alternative provision pathways. Post 16 students may be NEET or at risk of social exclusion.

The program works closely and in partnership with schools local authorities and other referral agencies.

Our BHS approved riding centres provide a safe outdoor environment with qualified and experienced accredited professional coaches where young people can learn and engage.
