A few more snoozy Shropshire faces 😴
All three were super relaxed throughout their sessions.
Archie the grey knew my intention instantly and zonked out straight away! He also had huge improvements since his last session and owner Meg noted that he is feeling much nicer to ride 😃
Connie the Clydesdale was just as relaxed and even gave me a big full body cat stretch at the end 😮 She also had significant improvements from last time.
Captain the palomino enjoyed his session and slept for a good hour afterwards. He is a young boy full of energy so this is always a good sign! 😃
Indiana hasn’t been feeling her usual self recently so she had a bodywork session this morning to release some of the tension that’s accumulated. There was a lot to unpack so I’ve left Paula with some homework then I’ll see her again in a couple of weeks ☺️
🌟Young Horses🌟
I often get asked if my bodywork sessions are suitable for young horses or is it best to wait until they’re older and doing more.
I believe it is beneficial for them at any age. Sessions are always tailored to the horse and his/her individual needs but horses of all ages carry tension and often need help to release it.
Yesterday I met beautiful young horse Lady, her owner has a great attitude of starting preventative measures before they become something that needs fixing. Teaching Lady about her body and learning to find release and relaxation is key for her future career. Looking forward to seeing them again on my next visit ☺️

Hi, I’m Tori & welcome to Gehælan!
It’s an Old English word, loosely translated as to heal, comfort, make whole. For me that fits perfectly with how I approach my practice and who I am; I offer holistic and therapeutic bodywork sessions where I’ll work with and not against your horse and their anatomy to help them release tension, improving mobility and wellbeing.
Being with horses has been one of the few things that’s ever come naturally to me. All I’ve ever wanted is to do my best, and help the horses I’m with be the best they can be, the more I learn the more I am committed to improving the lives of our equine friends and partners. Discovering bodywork was like a missing piece of the puzzle; when I practise I’ve never felt more where I should be.

Lovely boy Socks has made such improvements in the time I’ve known him, a wonderful example of how regular bodywork can help a horse to understand their body more and help to prevent injury and strain - while improving on what’s already there.
In our first session he had a lot of areas of tension and some quite expressive stress behaviours throughout.
As we’ve worked through his body all of that tension and stress has melted away and it’s lovely to see him just relax and enjoy it. His owner has noticed improvements in his ridden work and he is less prone to hurting himself in the field.
I see Socks once every 6 weeks which works really well for him, but every horse is an individual. Get in touch today for a chat on how regular bodywork could help your horse ☺️

One of the bonus benefits of bodywork is getting to know your horse better. Myself and her owner Dawn learned during this session that Sabbie loves her stifles being massaged!
Dawn can now add this to her care routine which Sabbie will really appreciate. A great way to top up the relationship bank!

There have been such huge changes in this mare’s posture, movement and overall physical health since starting regular bodywork treatments.
Maintaining a healthy equine body is a huge part of horse ownership and I believe it’s far more beneficial to look after what’s there rather than wait until it’s gone wrong to fix it!

The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management has proclaimed September Animal Pain Awareness Month.
Horses, thanks to evolution, have become masters at concealing their discomfort and pain.
This instinctual behaviour can be traced back to when they lived in the wild, where any outward display of weakness or injury could easily become a beacon for predators.
In these environments, horses, being prey animals, were compelled by the sheer need for survival to suppress signs of vulnerability. This inherent tendency complicates matters for modern-day horse owners and trainers. Often, behaviours that stem from pain are mistakenly interpreted as willful disobedience or sheer misbehaviour, rather than legitimate distress signals.
As such, when horse handlers encounter what they perceive as problematic behaviour, it's crucial to pause and consider the underlying causes.
Instead of immediately resorting to training or discipline, one should consult with a veterinarian for a comprehensive pain assessment. This ensures that any physical discomfort or ailment is addressed appropriately and humanely.

I’ve been working with young boy Ash and his owner Laura for a couple of years now (you’ve probably seen them over on NL Equestrian) and we are working towards the backing process now.
Today was his first bodywork session and it was great to not only locate areas of tension which match up with some psychological traits we’ve noticed over the years, but also to get an idea of what we need to work on next to best help his body be ready for a rider.
I’ve never met a horse that doesn’t hold tension somewhere in their mind and/or body (come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve met a human who doesn’t either!)
It’s crucial for our horse’s physical and mental wellbeing to give them the opportunity to release this tension and find ways to live in our human world calmly and comfortably. As a horse trainer there came a point where I couldn’t keep going without learning more about the physical side of horse health, and now I see the importance of balancing the two more than ever.

I’ve been away in the Cotswolds for a couple of days and today this gorgeous miniature donkey at the wildlife park lined up for a few minutes of bladder meridian and withers wiggle 🥹 Such a sweet and relaxing moment!
