Wight Squirrel Project - the Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Conservation Group was founded and is currently managed, voluntarily, by Helen Butler BSc MBE, the Isle of Wight's leading Red Squirrel expert. The project is run by volunteers, all are unpaid but highly important to the project. We are affiliated to registered charity The Conservation Volunteers. Wight Squirrel Project needs both practical a

nd financial offers of help. The easiest way to offer financial help is to become a Friend of the Red Squirrel and set up a standing order with a monthly or annual donation. If you give a minimum donation of £5 per person, you will become ‘A Friend of the Red Squirrel’ for a year and receive an initial welcome pack and a certificate. This will give concessions to some red squirrel events and the use of our private hide. Funding is needed to cover general running costs, insurance, post mortem expenses, monitoring, providing an annual newsletter, advice, veterinary bills and leaflets to the general public and also for food to fill hoppers at ‘safe’ road crossings. You can also provide practical help by reporting any sightings of Red Squirrels on the Island and/or by volunteering for the bi-annual survey.
