🎆 **Firework season is upon us Helping Our Dogs Cope with Noise Phobias** 🎆

As we approach Firework Night, many dog owners are preparing for the inevitable stress that loud noises can bring to our dogs. Noise phobias in dogs are common, and it’s crucial to take proactive steps to help them feel safe and secure during this time.

**At-Home Remedies for Noise Phobias:**

Create a Safe Space:** Set up a cozy area where your dog can retreat when the fireworks start. Use blankets, their favorite toys, and anything that smells like you to create a comforting environment.

Desensitisation:** Gradually expose your dog to recorded sounds of fireworks at a low volume while providing treats and praise. Slowly increase the volume over time to help them get used to the noise.

Calming Aids:** Consider using calming products like anxiety wraps, pheromone diffusers, or natural supplements. Always consult your vet before trying new products.

Background Noise:** Keep the TV or radio on during the fireworks to help mask the sound. Close to curtains.

🐶🐶Teaching Puppies from a Young Age:
Starting early can make a significant difference. Here are some tips:

Socialisation:** Expose your puppy to various sounds and environments during their critical development period (between 3-16 weeks). Introduce them to different noises in a controlled and positive manner.

Positive Reinforcement:** Reward your puppy with treats and praise when they encounter new sounds calmly. This builds confidence and teaches them that loud noises aren’t something to fear.

Gradual Exposure:** Just like with older dogs, play recorded sounds at a low volume and gradually increase it while rewarding your pup for staying calm.

Say Hello 👋 to Newt. He is our 7 month old rehomed German Shepherd.

We thought it was time, as a year ago our First Rehomed dog, Jerry -Lee passed away🤍

Willow our current German Shepherd loves to have company and has taken to Newt really well.

Newt need some work with his training, although he is a lovely boy with a clever brain.

I will enjoy teaching him to fit in with our family life and while to some that won’t be a picture perfect but for us that is not what we are about.

As long as he is good around people and dogs. He has strong recall, any other personality traits will remain.

I will share Newt story as it develops 🤍

Here is an update and review from a client I have been working with 🐾🐾🐕

We welcomed Zeus into our lives about a year and a half ago. He’s a rescue from Spain, and although we were initially misinformed about what to expect, the moment he arrived, we fell in love. We believe he’s a German Shepherd cross — but it was those expressive eyebrows that truly stole our hearts!
Zeus turns two on October 1st, and looking back, it’s incredible to see how far he’s come.
From the start, it was clear Zeus was a nervous dog. Within a week, he began barking at strangers and anyone entering the house. We did our best to manage it, but things gradually worsened. Our first trainer seemed experienced and confident, but during the initial session, they told us Zeus was aggressive and dangerous — and even suggested he should be put down. While they gave us some tools, like using a cloth muzzle for walks, their approach instilled a lot of fear in us. We began avoiding situations and stopped having visitors over, worried something might go wrong.
We stayed with that trainer for six months to a year, but progress felt stagnant. She wouldn’t allow Zeus near other dogs and constantly reminded us not to trust him, warning that any mistake could lead to him being put down. It was a heartbreaking and isolating experience.
Eventually, I reached out to Salisbury Dog Training after hearing they specialize in dogs like Zeus — and that’s when everything changed. In our very first session, they reassured us that Zeus wasn’t aggressive, just deeply scared. That simple shift in perspective gave us hope. By the end of that session, we felt lighter, more positive, and finally saw a path forward.
Around the same time, my mum adopted a rescue dog — a friendly one named Margot. We began walking together and visiting each other’s homes, and Zeus quickly warmed up. Today, he’s muzzle-free, happily plays and rests with Margot, and even enjoys being fussed over by my mum. It’s something we never imagined possible after everything we’d been told.
We still have a journey ahead before Zeus is fully “normal,” but we’re now able to visit busy cafés, bars, garden centres, and car boot sales with minimal reactions — sometimes none at all. We can even have guests over without worry. It’s such a relief to know there is light at the end of the tunnel, and all it took was someone who truly understood and believed in him.
We continue to work closely with Salisbury Dog Training, and their support has been invaluable. Each session builds on the last, and we’re seeing steady progress. I only wish we had found them sooner. For a long time, I felt like I had failed Zeus, but now he’s thriving — and I can’t wait to see everything finally click for him.

On 30th June, Nikki from Bluestone Hydrotherapy, Yvonne from Cats Protection and Jenni from Salisbury Dog Trainers joined us for our first Coffee Morning. ☕️

The morning consisted of a tour of the practice and a video session with Burgess Diagnostics Limited show casing the benefits of CT imaging, finished off nicely with refreshments of course!

As a practice we will be looking to host another coffee morning with our team in time to celebrate our 9 year practice anniversary. 🎈 and would love for you to join us!

This is a great post from one of the best behaviourists we have ever met. We have the pleasure of being associated with Nick and other top behavioural experts in the UK, through our M7 membership. All of us using positive reinforcement training and upholding the highest standards and ethics.

Don’t be fooled by social media crazy dog trainers that act like they know it all whilst trying to remain humble. Dog trainers that use time and time again in their posts that there clients have tried with other trainers and failed. We all have different ideals of what we want from our dogs what is perfect and what is not

What an amazing bunch of dog behaviourists I have the pleasure of associating with.

As the oldest serving member of the M7 a group of highly experienced and qualified ethical dog behavioural specialists. I have watched this group evolve into what is truly a magnificent organisation.

There is about 100 years experience in this photo, you can rest assured we have seen it all.

Hats off to Nick our clinical animal behaviourist and Steve our famous member 😂 for holding the fort during the evening event which I couldn’t stay for 🥲

Hats of to Michael Pipe our business consultant and friend for founding and overseeing all of our businesses. We appreciate and owe you so much for helping us all these years .

Cheers 🍻 🥂 to the next 6 years

Ps I’m the tiny one in these photos 😂😂🐶🐶🐕🐕🐾🐾🐾
