Wilbur asks if anyone has any old newspapers that we could have? We are desperately short of them for lining the hutches. We have a metal dustbin outside that they can be left in at any time. Feel free to share this post with friends and family. All the piggies will be very grateful ☺️

Sadly, we have two volunteers which have left due to personal circumstances. We therefore have voluntary vacancies on Monday and Thursday from 9am-11am, ideally suited for active retired people but all enquiries are welcome.
All Guinea Pigs are in an air-conditioned shelter with access to outside runs.
The shelter has toilet facilities and has off road parking.
We even stop for tea and bickies.

HEAT WARNING. PLEASE KEEP YOUR GUINEA PIGS INSIDE YOUR HOME (not a shed) DURING THESE UNPRECEDENTED HIGH TEMPERATURES TO AVOID FATAL HEAT EXHAUSTION. ALSO A FAN, ICE PACKS & WET TOWELS CAN BE USED. If you follow our page we would guess it’s fair to assume that you like guinea pigs.
Are you local to Eastry in Kent? Do you have a few hours to spare on Saturday or Sunday mornings? Are you over 18?
We are after an extra pair of reliable hands or two that can commit to weekends to feed and clean out the guinea pigs. Cuddles with them are compulsory 😉. Tea and coffee provided 😊

****FLY STRIKE WARNING****

Even at this time of year your piggies (and rabbits) can become victims of fly strike. This is where flies find a damp piggie bottom and lay their eggs in the fur. When these eggs hatch the maggots bury into the flesh of the guinea pig and start to eat it. Sorry for the graphic detail but it does get people’s attention! Please check your guinea pigs’ bottoms daily, even if they are indoor piggies. If spotted early and with vet intervention it can be treated, but prevention is much better than cure. There are various sprays on the market that deter the flies, but keeping the rear end clean, dry, and trimmed short if long haired, is the best form of prevention.

This gorgeous pair of bonded boars are looking for a home of their own. They are approximately 4 months old and are still getting used to being handled. We don’t normally promote individual pairs - we have older pairs that are also looking for their forever homes - but these boys need to be with a family that can spend lots of time helping them reach their full potential.

If you feel you can give these boys the best home ever please read the following points :-

Please complete the online adoption application form on our website.

Previous adopters will be given priority.

You MUST meet ALL the criteria, including minimum indoor cage size of at least 4’x2’. This is especially important for young boars.
If our criteria is not met you will not receive a reply.

We will not reply to comments or private messages requesting adoption.

From this weekend going forward (4th September) our indoor shop will be open daily from 10-Midday.

The welfare clinic is also open on Fri, Sat and Sun by appointment only.

There will still be only two members of the public allowed inside the shelter and wearing masks would be much appreciated to protect our vulnerable volunteers.
