To break up Blues first session we some periods of play together. This gave Blue a chance to de-stress a little and once again gave her an opportunity to equate a pleasurable experience with the salon environment. Just using something as simple as a ball can work wonders. Thank you Blue and I hope to see you again sometime soon.

One of the ways I used to help make Blues first session more enjoyable was by use of a Lickimat with dollops of squeezy cheese. This allowed Blue to equate her environment with something pleasurable. Luckily she was a bit of a treat monster and took to this idea very quickly.

I had Blue in a few days ago. Such a lovely dog and a delight to be with. Blue is a rescued Lurcher and this was her first time with me. Like all Lurchers, Blue was quite highly strung and especially nervous of this strange new environment she found himself in. She wasn't a fan of the bath or the dryer at all but we managed to work through those together. In a couple of other posts I will show how Blue and I made her first session something to be enjoyed.

Some before and after photos of Pippa who came in for much needed groom the other day. She is a 9 year old rescue dog who is currently being fostered and is now awaiting her forever home. Such a lovely, calm little dog who deserves the very best from life.

My eldest son made me a wonderful Christmas present. An illuminated sign for the Mutt Hut. Looks great along with the Chrimbo lights!

Puppy Cockapoo Dudley is another doggy client who enjoys the lick mat. He is rather partial to peanut butter. This was his third session and will willingly jump up on the table for brushing and drying. I always make sure to leave an 'escape route' open so he can jump down when he has had enough. After a sniff around or a bit of fussing, he will happily jump back up again. We have reached this point through consent grooming and with his human parents working hard at home to get Dudley used to being handled. Just waiting for the terrible twos to kick in now though!

A lick mat can be a groomer's friend. It helps associate whatever you're doing (brushing, clipping etc) with something good which is one of the pillars of consent grooming. Diesel the Nova Scotia retriever is 16 years old and still enjoys a little creamy cheese during his session.

Bella came in this morning for her first ever hand strip. She was such a brilliant girl considering this was her first time at the groomers. I allowed her to run around the salon and then I'd put her on the table for a quick session until she wanted to get off again. That way she was in control and we went at her pace. Hopefully she will know what to expect at her next session and be just as chilled. The body photo shows Bella just as I started the groom and the others are of Bella in various states of repose. The last one shows the amount of hair I removed next to a tired and sleeping Bella. See you soon.

Merlin from Bliss Cavalier Rescue came in today for a quick pamper ready to go to his new family in a week or so. He was a perfect doggy gentleman and will make a wonderful companion in his new home. Good luck Merlin.

Narla's such a proud girl and is an absolute pleasure to have in the Mutt Hut. A good groom shows her wonderful speckled coat at its best - just had to finish her ears off after the photos were taken!

Who could resist a pair like these? Bonny is 3 months old and her sister, Sadie is 7 months old. Bonny was full of puppy curiosity while Sadie was a little more reserved. However, after a bit of a play and some treats, she started to relax and seemed more than happy at the end of the session. Unfortunately, I forgot to take some after photos. Silly me! I'll try to remember for next time.

Daisy came from Ryedale Dog Rescue on Tuesday for a good groom before being put up for adoption. As you can see from the photos she was a very hairy girl but after a good bath and groom she was looking like a different dog. She was lovely girl, friendly and full of life. Whoever adopts her would have a wonderful new member to their home.

Diesel is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (To Toll means that the dogs run, jump and generally makes a scene on a river bank to drive ducks towards the hunters). He is a lovely calm boy and seems to enjoy his time in the Mutt Hut.

Nel came in today for her groom. Beautiful little girl who, although not a complete fan of the grooming process, sits- or lays - quietly on the table and lets you get on with it. If only all my dogs were like her. 😏
