Socialisation!?
What does this mean for puppies? If you have ever worked with me you know just how much I put into early socialisation with puppies. As important as learning to be happy interacting with other dogs and people whilst out, I also want puppies to learn that sometimes we cannot always interact and sometimes we may just have to watch or walk by. We know how hard it is to walk in the street with your gorgeous little puppy without getting stopped by every passer by, unfortunately (or fortunately in many owners cases ๐คซ) this is likely to stop when your pup becomes an adult but by that point they already have the expectation that everyone wants to say Hi. ๐คฏ
It is so important we teach our puppies both sides of socialisation as reactivity can occur just as much through frustration as fear. This is exactly what we put into practice with the lovely Ernie this morning. Simply heading out and building some very important neutral behaviours whilst distractions were around. It is safe to say he did the most amazing job, voluntarily choosing to sit whilst watching and even moving on from off lead playing dogs in the park! Well done superstar! ๐
Another lovely session with the gorgeous Rupert and Ralph! ๐ค I have worked alongside these two brothers for the past few months building their confidence and neutrality around other dogs. Today we took another step forward heading out to a busier location, having multiple head on passes and watching off lead dogs play. They both did an amazing job with no reactions whatsoever and lovely engagement being offered back to mum and dad! Well done little ones! I am so proud of you all! ๐๐
