Meet today's x-ray patient: Cassie 🐾
Cassie can get very stressed and upset around people and other dogs. With a combination of anti-anxiety medication, gentle handling, and positive reinforcement training from her owner, she was able to have a nice relaxed morning with us today.
Cassie was muzzled for some of her time with us for her own safety as well our staff safety. Her owner has been working hard training Cassie at home, so wearing a muzzle wasn't a stressful situation for her whilst at the vets.

**NOW REUNITED**
Thank you for everyone's help, the dog has now been reunited with its owner.
We had a very special patient in for spay today, as she shares a name with our head vet - Maeve!
Little Maeve wanted to hide away from us a lot of the time, so we made her some blanket hidey holes, and she had her emotional support friend, Dave, around at all times too 🥹

This lovely, polite lady saw our nurse for her 6-month health check and a nail clip today. She is very polite and says "please" for a treat🥰

Handsome boy Sid had his microchip placed today!
Have you checked if your kitten is microchipped? Don't forget the new microchip laws for cats that come into force soon; all cats need to be microchioped by 20 weeks of age, even if they don't usually go outside!
💻We are in the process of transitioning to a new computer system💻

Due to this, both Hunters Bar and Dronfield clinics will close at 6pm this evening. Our out of hours provider, Springfield Veterinary Group, will be available for emergencies beyond these hours.
Our Dronfield site will remain closed on Friday 3rd May, during this time all calls will be answered by our Hunters Bar team. Usual opening hours resume as of Saturday 4th May.

When the pre-anaesthetic sedation kicks in... 🤪
Hilarious as it may be, sedation plays an important role in your pets general anaesthetic!
💉 First of all, the vet performs a health check before any medication is given to ensure they are well enough to go ahead
💉All medication is calculated for your individual pet and their needs
💉The sedation is given via an injection into a muscle (with lots of cuddles and head pats!)
💉It helps calm your pet and allows the vet or nurse to place a catheter, through which their general anesthetic medication is given
💉Sedation before general anaesthesia also allows for a smoother transition and more stable anaesthetic 🤓
Cheeky chap Eddie fancied exploring the vet's cupboard today whilst in for his vaccinations, and made himself very comfy! 💜
Eddie happily sat there and enjoyed some liver paste while the vet administered his vaccines💉

Red's teeth were checked by one of our nurses at his 6-month health check. Tartar build up was seen, and Red was recommended a dental scale and polish with the vet. As his dental issue was noted early, Red didn't need any extractions! 🦷

🩺Regular health checks are vital to identify health concerns before they become a problem - just like Red's teeth! If they'd been left untreated for much longer, he could have developed painful dental disease🦷
🩺Our nurses can check your pet's teeth, weight, heart sounds, blood pressure, and lots more! If anything doesn't appear just right, they can refer your pet to a vet for investigation and treatment 💊
🦷 Nova came to our Hunters Bar practice today for a dental procedure! Judging from the before and after pictures, we're sure Nova will be wanting to show everyone their pearly white smile 😁

Please give a warm welcome to Mouse! An ex-racer who was recently adopted by her mum 🥰 Mouse came in for a new pet check and was so good the vet pleaded for Mouse to be patient of the week - and who could refuse such a happy face!

Please be aware we are experiencing significant technical difficulties at both our Hunters Bar and Dronfield sites this morning.
We are currently unable to access any clinical histories and therefore request any routine appointments such as vaccinations, consider rearranging. If you still wish to attend your appointment please ensure you bring your pets vaccination record.
We are continuing to see unwell patients, however our service may be slower than usual. We apologise for any delays.

Sadly we have had a deceased cat handed into our Dronfield practice this afternoon. The cat is a tabby coloured, entire male who does not have a microchip and is not wearing a collar. If you believe this cat could be yours or know any information please get in touch on 01246 410 810 and a member of the team can assist you.

To celebrate International Cat Day today, here's a photo of the gentle giant, Jeffrey. He is a Maine Coon who came in recently for his 6 month check up. He weighed in at a whopping 7.2kg! To put that in to perspective, the average weight for a cat is 3-4kg but Maine Coons are double the same! Isn't he just the most handsome man?! Share your furry felines below 🐾♥️🐱😻
