This is an educational post … absolutely NOT a ‘go’ at the finder …

5 hoglets admitted this evening, one of which has been injured by a pair of shears, used when clearing undergrowth..

Mum hedgehog ran away, but this little one was injured, the owner of the garden is mortified that she has been hurt… but did absolutely the right thing and sought help..

I am hopeful that this little one will be ok. She’s had pain relief, the wound cleaned and has started a course of antibiotics….

This beautiful 1.4kg female hedgehog was admitted this morning from Vets4Pets in Huddersfield..

She was picked up off the road last night, after having been clipped by a car.. [Thank you to the finder for rescuing her…]

I am hoping that her injuries are superficial, however, I do think that that she was on her way home to her family ..😢

Anyone in the George Street area of Crosland Moor, please keep a look out for lone hoglets out in the daytime…

Look who’s being released tonight!

Rose… Rose and another male hedgehog raised in rescue, have a new home in a fabulous support fed garden network 🦔🦔

Rose is the remaining surviving hoglet, who came into rescue with her mother, after a male hedgehog attacked the nest and killed her sibling…

I’m so pleased that she has done so well…and now has the chance of life that her sibling didn’t get …

Yesterday was a busy day, you’ll have seen all of the blue transport requests!

Little ‘Cary Grant’ a hoglet with a pr*****ed bowel, had a stitch put in.. thank you to Donaldson’s vets at Thongsbridge, once again for the support.. [From the poo splatter in the incubator this morning, the lactulose looks to have worked 😳]

I picked up a young hedgehog from Donaldson’s vets in Shepley, thank you to the finder who left £20, which has gone onto our account..

We had a hedgehog picked up from Donaldson’s vets, Somerset Road, he is very thin, but has eaten and drank overnight…poo samples this morning will reveal more

The request for one from Vets4Pets at Barnsley sadly went downhill and was euthanised …[We have a transport volunteer going back to Vets4Pets this morning, to pick up a juvenile 250g hedgehog]

A beautiful 1kg female hedgehog was displaced when a shed was removed in Crossland Moor and was brought to us…We have rehomed her into a suitable area, with a hedgehog house, where she will be support fed…[It is always a last resort relocating a hedgehog and taking them away from their home due to the unnecessary stress this causes]

Say hello to W***y, from Wilthorpe 🦔💙

W***y came into rescue last night, suffering from severe dehydration, a heavy flystrike burden that had started to hatch into maggots… and his back legs are grazed..

People walked past this little boy; they looked and moved on, not knowing that he was desperately in need of help..

Thankfully he was picked up and brought into rescue. I did think that it was ‘touch and go’ last night as to whether he would survive..

But here he is, our little fighter.. he’s got a long way to go, but a huge thank you to his rescuer and also to Helen for transporting and also for helping remove the flystrike and maggots..🦔💙

Meet Duncan, who was admitted yesterday from Cleckheaton and is sadly another strimmer victim..

Thankfully the wound is not as deep as was first thought..

After he had been given pain relief and antibiotics; the wound was cleaned up and looking a lot better.

He’s eating well, but will be here for quite some time, until he’s fully healed ..

Please spread the word and ask people to check before strimming .. It only take 2 minutes, it could save a life…and a great deal of pain 🦔💙

Sadly, she was admitted this morning and has passed away in our hands, she had been out in the daytime and had severe flystrike, she was just too weak to survive ..

This time of year is crazy and this year especially…

We are rammed full, our fosters are rammed full and we are all tired..

This is the same for other rescues and each and every one of us are trying our best..

Please remember that most rehabbers have full time jobs, we don’t get paid for doing this, we do it for the love of the animals.

So if we don’t answer the phone, it’s not because we don’t care, it’s because we just can’t take in any more. We give advice on the answerphone of what to do / where to go for help if we can’t.

We always try and return hedgehogs to where they came from, unless there’s a valid reason not to..

But, you know what, sometimes we might have written the contact number down wrong, sorry, it happens, that’s life!

But before people put snippy comments on social media, they should think about the impact that even a small comment might have to an already overworked rescue team that are trying their best..

It might just be the last straw that shuts a rescue down for good!

Baby Alyssia admitted this evening, found in a field local to the Pollard Street area of Fartown HD2..

Weighing only 90g, she is too young to be without the security of her mother..[She also had a lot of flystrike on her back, which has now been removed…]

Thank you to the finders for contacting us.. She would have most certainly died had she not been picked up ..

This little boy was admitted on Sunday evening and had got a very bad prolapse ....

Thankfully our fantastic vet Helen from Donaldson’s Vets, Thongsbridge, managed to get the bowel back inside and stitch it in place ..

He is back in rescue now recovering and receiving pain relief and antibiotics.. fingers crossed it stays in place 🦔💙

Confirmation that we did the right thing ….🦔🦔 Last night, after we had removed mum and the remaining baby from the disturbed nest, the large male hedgehog returned, searched the compost bin and then searched all of the excess bedding that was removed when the finder brought mum and baby to us …. Mum and baby are safe and well with us …and you Mr Hedgehog need an ABSO slapping on you!

Nature can be cruel….🥺 The clip below is one of a number of clips taken by the owner of a garden and this compost bin, where they have happily watched a mum raise 2 babies for about the past 4 weeks…. What happened before this clip, I won’t show you; but in brief, mum left the nest to go foraging; she was only gone a short while, when a large male came into the nest, took both babies out, sadly killed one and was then disturbed by the distressed returning mother.. The second baby was found on the lawn and was reunited with the frantic mother in the nest… this is the clip below.. After discussing with the home owner, we agreed that the best course of action was to bring mum and the remaining baby (along with as much nesting material as possible), into rescue.. [especially as the baby had been attacked…] Thankfully, both mother and baby are ok and now in the ‘mother and baby’ hut, where mum can now safely raise her little girl…both will be eventually returned home… The home owner has named the mother ‘Hermione’ and the baby ‘Rose’ This sort of incident is thankfully very rare. We can theorise as to why it happened, but for now, mum and baby are safe 🦔🦔… Thank you to the home owner for acting so quickly…

‘The Before’… Let’s see what ‘The After’ looks like in the morning … 🫣 [This little hungry little one has just arrived from Halifax 🦔💙]

Our old man that was found in the road, at the side of the kerb, is [sort of] on his feet.. Excuse the poop in the corner, he has already been cleaned out this morning, honest! 🥴🦔💙

This little boy arrived today, weighing only 147g. He was found wandering all on his own, on a tow path at the side of the canal running from Brighouse to Huddersfield… I’ve named him Robbie 😅 #robbiecumming #canalboatdiaries

ARCHIE! You picked a fight with the wrong hedgehog there my lad! ...🤦‍♀️🦔🦔 Archie has literally only been released from rescue [for the second time!] a week or so ago after fighting and ending up with a huge abscess underneath his chin and an injured front leg .. If he carries on like this, he will be back in rescue again before much longer! 🥺 There’s too much hedgehog testosterone about at the moment! 🫣 [Beth, who’s garden this is, has checked Archie over, as this was a particularity nasty fight.. He seems to have got away without too much damage… this time!]

We received this video yesterday of a hedgehog out in the day, which also appeared to be limping.. The finder had secured in a high sided box, given water, a warm water bottle (wrapped in a towel) and covered with another towel - exactly the correct thing to do! When the hedgehog was brought into rescue, I found that she was completely missing her back right leg. She is very underweight, has roundworm and mites.. She is receiving the appropriate care and is eating well 🦔❤️ I have named her Keren: Not be mistaken for Karen, Keren has Hebrew origins and means “Strength and power”

THIS IS WHAT RAT TRAPS DO TO A HEDGEHOG ! This beautiful 1kg female hedgehog was a regular visitor to a garden, where she lived in a hedgehog house, was support fed and was quite happily going about her business… I was sent this video yesterday and thankfully ‘Chutney’ was secured last night and brought to us today; her foot has been cleanly severed.. Thank you to the finder, who is devastated about the pain and suffering that ‘Chutney’ had endured… Please tell people to STOP using bloody rat traps! They have the blood of innocent animals on them! 😡

2 wild hedgehogs in my feed station… and one has left a horrible green slimy poo that is absolutely packed full of parasites 🥺 Hog watch for me tonight I think… 🦔 The poorly one is the one on the right as I recognise the hedgehog on the left, her poo is fine.. (there have been nights that she has been a solitary visitor and I’ve checked her poo)
