🌀ABCESS🌀

Most abscesses are generally caused by an infection with staphylococcal (meaning a group of bacteria). A cavity is created which fills with pus to form the abscess. The pus contains a mixture of dead tissue, white blood cells and bacteria and may get larger and more painful as the infection continues, causing more pus to be produced. Some indications of an abscess are mild to acute lameness, heat and swelling… it can be very painful and can sometimes take a while to find.

How can the TheraPlate help?
Increasing blood circulation brings more white blood cells and antibodies to the area to help fight the infection. It promotes hoof growth helping the cavity grow out faster and heal quicker.

TheraPlate in conjunction with poulticing of the affected hoof...
The poultice will soften the hoof wall to then make it easier for the abscess to burst through. The TheraPlate will then aid in it bursting and continued drainage of the abscess through the tract. I

I’ve had a few burst whilst on the plate or the day or two after which is great as the sooner it’s out, the happier the horse. The abscess will now bw far less painful and can start the healing process.

Other management to take into consideration while treating an Abscess.
If the abscess is bigger seek medical advice. Antibiotics may be required to help fight the infection. Once medical advice has been given you can use the TheraPlate alongside to help aid in the healing process.

*****EQUINE METABOLIC SYNDROME (EMS)*****

Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) is a hormonal disorder similar to Type 2 diabetes in humans.

So what does it do to the body?

In simple terms it’s an impairment in the way the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as a fuel. This long-term (chronic) condition results in too much sugar circulating in the bloodstream. Eventually, high blood sugar levels can lead to disorders of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems. And can result in reoccurring laminitis.

Proper exercise, nutrition and hoof management should be closely monitored and weight management is essential, but how else can we help?

There is a link between EMS and poor circulation which is puts your horse at high risk of conditions that affect their circulatory system, including high blood glucose levels which cause fatty deposits and over time these can contribute to lessening blood flow.

A tricky one to picture but was impaled on the fence. What a difference 3 weeks and 4 days make !! 7 inches across and 8 inches deep … Theraplate daily for the first 10 days then twice a week after. When the stitches were taken out after 10 days the 8 inches deep was fully sealed back up … 🌀🌀🌀

How does TheraPlate support wound healing?

One of the most dramatic factors that can affect wound healing is reduced or poor blood supply to the wound. The oxygen and nutrients that new blood carries to the wound are key to successful healing. A wound that is not getting enough blood could take at least twice as long to heal, if it heals at all. *****LAMINITIS/FOUNDER*****

Laminitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the laminae in the horse's hoof. It is often recurrent for individual horses and occurs due to a lack of blood flow in the laminae which leads to swelling and inflammation in the hoof. Laminitis is a serious condition of the foot and in serious cases the pedal bone can rotate, pointing towards the horses sole and in sink right through it.

How does the TheraPlate help with treating Laminitis/Founder?

By helping improving blood flow into the feet can aid in clearing and cleaning the circulatory system of the lymphatic system and help provide some digital vasodilatory (shock) support. This helps reduce inflammation and increase hoof growth.

How else can I manage Laminitis?

Management is paramount.

* Provide a modified diet providing adequate forage and digestible fibre is needed.
* Avoid excess carbohydrates
* Ensure routine hoof care
* Provide good health-maintenance including parasite control and vaccinations to reduce the risk of the horse’s susceptibility to illness or disease
* Avoid grazing on lush pastures especially late morning and late afternoon hours since plant sugars are at the highest during these times.
* Restrict pasture intake especially springtime or anytime the pasture suddenly greens up.
* Avoid pastures when there’s a frost.
* Avoid stressful environment.

The front plate is on and the back plate is off.

This shows any therapy which does not use the long bone for blood flow does not treat all parts of the leg because there are no muscles to help blood travel to those areas!
So the likes of massage rugs and hand held equipment will not target circulation in the lower body! Therefore they don't offer a true whole body therapy 🦄

Q: What's the prognosis for a tendon injury?

A: Recovery from anything but the mildest tendon injury can take from nine to 12 months. A severe tear will take longer to heal than a moderate strain, and an older horse will probably heal more slowly than a younger one.
