Every dog needs a break during their training session Saffie's favourite break is with a good sniffing session which she surely got

Some great obedience being displayed by Saffie here with passing distractions of people who thought she was beautiful. Which they aren't wrong either as she is a beautiful girl

Another training session with Saffie this week. This one was just with me hence why the videos are from a completely different angle. She is doing well however still struggles with loose lead walking.

Also have you ever tried training in the real world and outside a hall?... No, we'll get in tomorrow Ch and let's make it happen. Real world training is the way forward train in the environment you want the dog to cope in

I walk a lot in the countryside and the amount of times I see people with dogs off-lead or on flexi-leads and their dogs are making sheep run, just think for a second and wonder what would the sheep want. What could you do to make the walk more enjoyable for you and your dog. Want some help with your pet around livestock then get in touch and get booked in.

Sheep's request below:

Dear Walkers,

We are all pregnant and need peace and quiet. Please keep your dogs on leads and do NOT run about in case you scare us.

Thank Ewe.

Saffi working with her owner doing some really nice Loose Lead Walking and managing Saffi past people and varying distractions

17/02/2024

So I want to update everyone on Saffi's progress since her last session. Saffi last had a training session back in Sept 23, however since then they have clearly been working hard and practicing everything I had previously told them as seen in the videos.

When I first met Saffi she was dragging her owners everywhere and wanting to be involved with everything she possibly could be. However we have been working on Engagement, Loose Lead Walking and Engage/Disengage for control around distractions.

We started of in a quiet environment to gain success and then gradually introduced her into busier environments to ensure that we still got success.

It is clear that the owners have been putting in the hard work and time to work with Saffi to get her to where she is now.

Our next steps for Saffi is to continue working on her Engage/Disengage response when she is around distractions.

P.s. I like to show, tell and coach clients on what I would like them to do as this provides them with a clear image of what I would like them to do. Whilst also providing valuable knowledge of what is needed from them as a dog hander.

LR Dog Training went on a weekend trip to Oakham to visit young dog Payton and first time handler as well. Check out what they have been up to. The lead work is coming along nicely for such a young dog, still a way to go but clear improvement can be seen from when I last visited. (1 of 2)

LR Dog Training is proud to welcome the newest and youngest ever member.

Please all welcome PAYTON (black lab) who is from working lines. Her owner has been working hard and keeping in touch since her arrival as he doesn't want to get anything wrong with being a first time dog owner.

Keep an eye for progress updates as Payton and her owner develop as a partnership.

A morning out training this fabulous puppy today. I have been working with this lovely lad for a few weeks and he has come on leaps and bounds in this short space of time. He is well on his way to conquering loose lead and disengagement on some distraction. His owners have worked with him giving consistency which is key to the success of this human dog relationship. We will now start to work on his recall, perfect his loose lead and further develop his dog distraction. Full steam ahead.

Firework night is quickly approaching here are a few things you can do to help your dog out and make it as low stress as possible.

• Feed them early – mid to early evening
• Walk them before dusk and make sure you are back before dusk
• Keep them inside
• Play music in the background
• If taking them out to toilet in the garden then go with them and watch them
• Create a safe space for your dog and when they are in it leave them alone
• Don't leave them alone
• Don’t leave them alone
• Make sure they have some form of enrichment activity (frozen Kongs, snuffle matts)
If you feel your dog will not cope, please get in touch with your vet as they will be able to look at potential medications that might help

Today LR Dog Training met up with these 2 doggies for a training session. We haven't met up for a while due to prior engagements. However that did not stop the owners from putting in the hard work and taking on board the advice given from LR Dog Training.

When we started working on both Molly's and Reina's recall. They both had knowledge of the required behaviour but it was selective, but now look at it. The next stage from here is to keep strengthening and generalising the behaviour to different areas.

Welcome to LR Dog Training. LR Dog Training is based in Shrewsbury. I believe that all dogs and their owners deserve to be happy and to enjoy each other’s company. The best way to do this is to have a mutually respectful working relationship which I believe is built from positive reinforcement training. This is achieved through the use of reward based training only and to avoid any physical punishment or fear.

If you're looking for any dog training advice or 121 training sessions then please feel free to get in touch. I am not about one training approach fits all, as it clearly does not, therefore I am flexible to meet your needs and train the dog and owner in front of me.
