🚨 Important info on heatstroke in dogs 🚨

We heard Graeme Hall on yesterday giving advice on heatstroke. While we truly appreciate his love for dogs and good intentions, some of the information shared was outdated and potentially dangerous.

He advised not to cool dogs too quickly and to use wet towels — but current veterinary guidance says otherwise.

💦 The correct advice? WET THEN VET.
If your dog is suffering from heatstroke: 1️⃣ Cool them immediately – use cold water to submerge or hose them down.
2️⃣ Skip the towels – they can trap heat instead of releasing it.
3️⃣ Then get to your vet ASAP.

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency. Quick action saves lives, and cooling fast and effectively is vital. 🐾

🐰🔥 Crazy Case of the Week! 🔥🐰

Meet Fred, who thought he’d scored himself a baby rabbit… only to end up headfirst in a chimney flue! 😅 (The flue was on the ground due to building works—don’t worry, no rooftop rescues required.)

The rabbit got away, but Fred found himself in a very tight spot. Luckily, our very own Hugh is not just an exceptional vet, but also a dab hand with manual tools. With Fred safely under deep sedation, Hugh managed a delicate flue removal operation. 🛠️💪

Fred’s now fully recovered—perhaps a little wiser—and hopefully steering clear of DIY chimney missions in the future! 🐾

This evening stroll on the beautiful Stiperstones was perfect — breezy, cool, and safe. ❤️

With the heat rising this week, here’s a gentle reminder from a vet (and a dog mum):
I walk my own dogs early morning or not at all.
No dog has ever died from missing a walk — but sadly, too many have from heatstroke. 💔

🚨 If your dog is showing signs of heatstroke (excessive panting, collapse, confusion):
WET THEN VET — soak with cold hose water or immerse in cold water, then get to the vet immediately. Cooling first, travel second.

Let’s enjoy the cooler moments and protect our pups when it's hot. They’d rather skip a walk than suffer through one.

💙 Blue’s Lucky Escape 💙

Earlier this week, beautiful Blue gave us all a scare after deciding to take a nap under a truck 😱. She came to us as an emergency with a head injury, and we jumped straight into action.

She received: 💧 Fluid resuscitation
💊 Pain relief & antibiotics
🩸 Baseline bloods
🩻 Full radiographs to check for skull fractures, pneumothorax (air between the lungs and chest wall) or diaphragm issues

She spent the day under intensive monitoring, with special attention to her blood pressure and neurological status using something called the Modified Glasgow Coma Score 🧠

We were over the moon when she began to turn a corner… and even more thrilled to see her back home, happy and healing 💖

Such a brave little soul — go Blue! 🐾✨
