Team Tuesday 👋 – Meet Michelle, Head Nursing Assistant

Michelle joined Malthouse Vets at the young age of 19, back when the practice was still mixed and involved both farm and small animal work. She enjoyed being in theatre and watching operations, and these days she focuses more on admin and reception — but she still loves being part of the wider team.

Although she doesn’t have her own pet, Michelle helps to look after her boyfriend’s Doberman, Darcey. Darcey is a sweetheart who doesn’t quite realise her size and loves to be a lapdog! Michelle admits to spoiling her and even letting her sneak onto the bed in the mornings. 🐾

In her spare time, Michelle enjoys sunny holidays abroad, spending time with her teenage daughter, going out for nice meals, and (of course!) getting her lashes done. ✨

Her dream dinner? Chicken liver pâté to start, steak with triple cooked chips and peppercorn sauce, followed by profiteroles. 🥩🍫

Each Tuesday, I am going to share a post about a member of our wonderful team. Next up… Katie!

Team Tuesday 👋 – Meet Katie Mills, Nursing Assistant
Katie has been part of the Malthouse Vets team since 2006. Back then, the practice was still mixed, and she loved getting out on farm visits as well as the small animal work. Now she enjoys assisting with theatre work, anaesthetics, and surgery prep. Katie also enjoys being on reception and meeting our lovely clients.

At home, Katie has a busy household with her dogs – Indie the border terrier, Bella the black lab, and Willow the gentle red cocker – along with ferrets and a rabbit. 🐾

Outside of work, she loves cooking, heading out for family days, enjoying nice meals, and soaking up the sun in warmer places. ☀️

Her dream dinner? Prawn cocktail with smoked salmon to start, a roast dinner, and Bakewell tart for pudding. 🍤🍖🥧

Tomorrow (Sunday 31st) I will be attending the Longden Companion Dog Show.
I have sponsored this show along with Malthouse Vets.
This show is perfect for those that want to try a dog show for the first time, improve socialisation skills or just to have a bit of fun.
Classes are £2.50 each and are payable on the day.
Bring your own chairs, refreshments will be available in the village hall and parking is close to the ring.
Come and say hi at the green gazebo. Look forward to seeing you 😊

TEAM TUESDAY

Team Tuesday 👋 – Meet Kath, Accountant
Most of you haven’t met Kath, but she is very much an integral part of The Malthouse. She’s going to kill me for posting this 🤭 but she also happens to be my mum!

Kath is a qualified accountant and has been part of the practice since 2017, quietly keeping everything in order behind the scenes by doing our accounts in her “spare time.” She’s also been a huge support to me personally throughout the journey of building The Malthouse — a true reminder that this really is a family business at heart.

She is also mum to Bonnie the Border Terrier (Hugo’s best friend!) and when she’s not sorting out our books, she loves travelling, walking and reading.

Her dream dinner? Garlic mushrooms to start, a really good steak and chips, followed by a sticky toffee pudding. 🍽️

📢 Bank Holiday Opening Hours 📢

We will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August.
For any urgent veterinary care during this time, please call Shrewsbury Pet Hospital on 01743 465554. 🐾

✨ Please make sure you have enough of your pet’s medication to last over the longer weekend.

We are open as usual on Saturday 24th August, 8.30am–12 noon, and will be back open from 8.30am on Tuesday 27th August.

TEAM TUESDAY
Each Tuesday, I am going to share a post about a member of our wonderful team. Next up… Hugh!

Team Tuesday 👋 – Meet Dr Hugh Morrey, Veterinary Surgeon
Hugh qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2009 and worked in practices across Shropshire and mid Wales before joining the Malthouse team in 2021.

He enjoys surgery and is especially passionate about providing compassionate end-of-life care for pets. Hugh also helps dart wild animals that need veterinary treatment.

Although he doesn’t currently have pets of his own, his parents’ farm keeps him connected to animal life – they have collies, breed horses, and keep goats (so having a vet in the family comes in very handy!).

Outside of work, Hugh loves spending time outdoors with wildlife. He also enjoys tinkering with cars, driving diggers, and visiting friends in Scotland to soak up the scenery.

His dream dinner? Pâté to start, a good Chinese from Zenna in Shrewsbury, and any good pudding – he’s not fussy! 🥡🍮

TODAY 9.30AM OUTSIDE THE PRACTICE ☕️

We are very excited to announce that .coffee.van will be a regular feature outside Malthouse Vets twice a month! The van will be outside the practice serving delicious hot drinks on the FIRST MONDAY and THIRD TUESDAY of every month around 9.30am. You'll next catch him Tuesday 19th August.
