First Puppy Pre-School was a roaring success! Puppies and dedicated owners setting themselves up for the best type of future. Our Registered Veterinary Nurse Sarah and Qualified Behaviourist Caroline Lewis from had a great evening with some super cute pups!

In a world where Google can seem like the easiest source of information, it's brilliant to see owners turning to the professionals as their first port of call πŸ’“πŸΎ

Due to a new computer system going live on Tuesday 2nd July (Yes again, don't ask πŸ˜…πŸ« ) we will be facing some disruption to our normal service over the next week. You will still be able to reach us, but we would ask calls are for urgent enquiries only during the following times:
Tuesday 25th June 3.30-5pm (training)
Thursday 27th June 3.30-5pm (training)
Friday 28th June 2.15-3.15pm (training)
Monday 1st July 2-6pm (we will be without a computer system whilst we switch over)

Tuesday 2nd of July is our 'go live' date with the next system, so please bear with us next week as we get used to it 😊

The more non urgent enquiries that can go through our app the better, as it will free up the pressure on our phone lines 🐾

*LET'S TALK MONEY*

When you spend Β£120 at the Vets, where does that go?

🐾 £20 goes to HMRC as VAT
🐾£15 goes to fixed costs (utilities, rent insurance, bank loans, lease on equipment, etc)
🐾 £45 goes to pay our excellent staff. Veterinary is a service based industry that generally has lower profit rates than product based ones due to high staffing costs. The couter point to this is that the reason veterinary fees are cheaper than private health care is because the professionals are generally paid less 🫠
🐾£30 goes on drugs, surgical consumables, etc
🐾£10 (in a relatively well performing practice) is profit. So that's in the business owner's pocket, right? Wrong. Out of this comes tax, building/equipment investment, and maybe some renumeration for the business owner if they are lucky πŸ˜…

These are obviously very rough figures and will vary from practice to practice but help give insight into where your money goes 🐾

Tanner started a monthly injection for his osteoarthritis last month. Here is the feedback from his owner (paraphrased not quoted due to the way my brain remembers things πŸ˜…πŸ« ):

"He is a different dog! Playing and enjoying his walks so much more. Before the injection, he would stop and ask to go home...now he wants to go much further. "

I got asked recently in an interview which part of my job I enjoy the most. Yes, the heroic surgeries are really fun......but making small changes that improve the quality of my patients' lives like this is what gives me the greatest satisfaction πŸ₯°

My team absolutely bossing their second day with today!

This lovely client had already downloaded the app, so we were able to update her on Violet's recovery asap. This frees up time for the team to spend on helping animals, and also gives the owners peace of mind much quicker than previously possible.

We wish Violet a speedy recovery from her dental work 🐢🦷

Talking on BBC Radio 5 live this morning about new microchipping legislation. My heart sinks whenever we get an injured cat brought in and no way of knowing who the owner is, so these new rules can only be a good thing, IMHO.

Often, clients will say to me,'but he doesn't go far'....the reality is most cats are wandering miles further than we think!
It's a quick, easy (depending on the amenability of the cat 😺) and relatively inexpensive (£16.20) procedure.

Remember, your pet cat should be microchipped before 10th June πŸ˜ΊπŸˆβ€β¬›οΈπŸˆ

XL BULLY TYPE NEUTERING FORM
For those dogs who were aged one year old or above on 31st January, and will have been neutered prior to the deadline of Sunday 30th June.
The proof of neutering form needs to be sent to the email address below in the screenshot. There is a postal address listed (personally, I would be emailing it).
This is the link to the form itself:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/665735940c8f88e868d33330/Veterinary_confirmation_of_neutering_VCN01_Form290524.pdf
If your dog came from a rescue centre, and was neutered prior to you adopting. Then please chase the rescue centre and get them to provide the information/get vet to sign it.
Please note: If you have to go to a different vet practice to get the form completed, they will need to check your dog in person to confirm it has been neutered/spayed.
Deadline for all of this is Sunday 30th June. x

PLEASE SHARE

This is Baloo, he is 6 years old. He is looking for a new home due to a change of circumstances. He is a bit shy with strangers but affectionate once he knows you. He loves butt pats! He is used to a rural home with a large garden, however, has lived in the suburbs before. He has lived with a Labrador but takes time to warm up to dogs and probably would prefer a dog free home. He stays away from children. If you think you could offer him a home please get in touch with Sarah on 07397700603.

Fudge presented Wednesday for a swelling under his right eye. Vet Alison promptly diagnosed him with a tooth root abscess, and he was admitted for extractions yesterday. These are some great before an afters of his dental work !

His procedure for pre anaesthetic bloods, general anaesthesia, fluids, LOTS of pain relief, and ELEVEN extractions (😱) was Β£381.95 +VAT. This also included post-op medications and complimentary cuddles in recovery during lunch πŸ’—

WANTED: Part-time receptionist for Saturday mornings (8.30am-12pm). Ideally, someone with veterinary or reception experience as there is quite a bit to learn!

We are a employer, so pay Β£12/h. You will get 7 days paid annual leave and 2 days paid sick pay per year.

The job is fun and rewarding, and you will be part of a fantastic team. It can be a lot at times and emotionally tough. Veterinary reception work is not for the faint-hearted! It will be a fantastic job for the right person, though.

Please send all genuine enquiries to [email protected]

Applications close Monday 17th June.

PS bribery in the form of cake is not only accepted... but welcomed.

Bailey presented to us yesterday lunchtime as an emergency as she was seizuring. After prompt anti seizure treatment, blood tests, and monitoring, she made a full recovery and has been sent on medication to reduce her frequency and severity of seizures going forward.

Seizures in dogs can be due to a multitude of causes, including toxins, inflammatory disease, cancers, and electrolyte abnormalities. They can also be 'idiopathic,' I.e. there is no underlying cause. Always seek immediate veterinary advice treatment if your pet is having them.

We are all over the moon she is doing so well!

Alongside our puppy pre school starting in June...we will be offering UNDERSTAND YOUR ADOLESCENT DOG πŸ’—

We know how stressful this phase be be (me more than most with πŸ˜…), and will soon be offering adolescent Preschool to help.

Our very own RVNs Sarah Jones and Natalie Lewis, together with Caroline Lewis of will go through some survival techniques!

This will be an opportunity for a small number of you to get together with Sarah Natalie and Caroline for an insightful one hour session for your teenagers.

Why have they forgotten all training, fearful then too confident, sensitive, suddenly scared to walk, destroying things, over boisterous, mouthing, hu***ng etc

Just like us as teenagers they are struggling to work themselves and life out!

The sessions take place once a month for one hour. Numbers are kept small, to ensure no puppy feels overwhelmed.

Please register your interest with the practice on 01743 791246 or [email protected]

This will be an opportunity for a small number of you to get together here at the practice with Sarah, Natalie, and Caroline for a calm one hour social for your puppies.

They will go through topics such as teething, socialising, starting a successful walk, any basic health worries, correct mental stimulation, and more.

Our aim, as a practice, is to support you as your puppies begin their journey in life. The sessions take place once a month for one hour. Numbers are kept small to ensure no puppy feels overwhelmed.

Please register your interest with the practice on 01743 791246 or [email protected]

A day late, but yesterday was World Veterinary Day! Myself, Hugh and Tamsin are your regular vets, but the practice also benefits from the expertise of regular locums such as Alison and Holly. We expand our skill set further with in-house surgery referrals from Ryan Rob and Catalin at MSM Vets , plus imaging with .overend.167 .

I'd like to thank each and every one of them for their dedication to the veterinary profession and also our lovely patients πŸ’—
