🐾 Happy story time 🐾
So as many of our customers will know back in June we went on holiday to Crete where we encountered a lot of stray animals (as you’ll have seen from one of our posts a about a week ago)
With us being such dog people we couldn’t bare to see all the stray dogs!
On I think our 3rd night we met this beautiful little girl who was so incredibly friendly and loving, we quickly realised she was a stray! The morning after she then greeted us outside our hotel, followed us to the harbour and watched us as we went off on our trip.
The next day I then saw her outside the local supermarket where she started to follow me, the paths were so bad you had to walk on the roads and the floor was so hot I couldn’t bare to see her walking on it so picked her up to get her to a safe point, she was so trusting she just cuddled into me until I put her down where she then continued to follow me into our hotel and to our sunbeds. She then went for a little wonder and as we got out of the pool we saw her walking back to our sunbed and lay down waiting for us to return, she then followed me up to our room and sat with me until we went for tea where again she followed us (at this point breaking our hearts as we so desperately wanted to bring her home but didn’t know how)
As we discussed it more we decided we had to do what we could to bring her to the UK so Joe convinced his sister to adopt her if we could bring her back, the hotel staff did everything they could to try and help us and even rang around local rescue centres with no success. I then rang a Greek rescue centre based in the UK who helped as much as they could but then luckily one of the ladies who worked in a restaurant near the hotel put us in contact with a British couple who had moved to Crete to rescue stay dogs and re-home either there or here in the UK.
The couple said they’d be able to help and after having a wonderful day and night with the dog just us, the couple then drove 4 hours on our last day to pick her up and take her back to theirs where they kindly looked after her for weeks, sorted out all the documents, travel and necessary vet stuff until the day came she could come to her forever home.
After a long travel for her from Crete to Paris then Paris, though the euro tunnel and up to yorkshire she finally made it to her new forever home with my sister in law where she has settled in so well to her new life and I can’t tell you how amazing it is to see her living such a wonderful life!
So in true us style we went on holiday for a break from dogs and ended up rescuing one. Everyone meet Nala Athena, our gorgeous niece 😍
