Things I am doing to keep Chip, Mabel & Smudge cool π
1. Windows and curtains closed.
Yes I said windows closed! I only open my windows late on the night and early morning, keeping them closed throughout the day. This way, it keeps the hot air out and the cooler air in.
The curtains also stop the sun beaming into the rooms and heating up.
2. Frozen treats.
Chip has a frozen fruit bowl and a frozen peanut butter kong. The cats have frozen lickelix treats.
It is fine to give your animals frozen treats (including ice cubes) when they are not suffering from heat stroke. If you give them to them when they have heat stroke, this is when it is dangerous.
3. Fans on in a few rooms.
Again, because I have shut out the hot air, this will encourage the cooler air to circulate.
4. Fresh water change a few times a day.
This one might seem obvious, but by keeping it fresh it will encourage your pets to drink more.
5. Early morning/late evening walks.
As you all know, Chip usually comes to work with me on a daily basis. At the moment, that just isn't possible so he comes on the first early morning walk with me then he is back home and I pop in on him throughout the day.
If you can't walk at these times, do not walk your dog!
