Today is the anniversary of choosing Rosie as a puppy. I say that, but she chose us by following my then 5 year old son and wanting attention from him.
She was a deep red then and now she is a very pale apricot with white. She is a perfect example of how much a dogās colour can change.
Dogs often fade as they mature, especially poodle and spaniel mixes. It is usually down to genetics, the shift from puppy coat to adult coat, sun exposure and grooming. In some dogs neutering can also make the coat lighter or softer.
Colours that fade the most
⢠Red to apricot to cream
⢠Chocolate to café au lait or grey
⢠Black to brownish or grey
⢠Sable becoming lighter
⢠Blue or silver starting dark and fading over time
Rosie shows this beautifully. She went from rich red to pale apricot and white, just as poodle mix genetics predict.
The colour you get is not always the colour you end up with, and you love them just the same. Simba definitely loves her (as do I) and vice versa š.
