๐ฉโ๐ซ Saturdays are for learning, so here are some fun facts about Beagles. ๐ฉโ๐ซ
Did you knowโ๏ธ
๐ธ๏ธBeagles ๐ถ were bread for hunting because of their sense of smell and stamina. Their ears reach the end of their nose to catch the scent particles and keep them close to their noses. They have white tips on their tails so they can be seen when their heads are down following a scent.๐๐พ
๐ธ๏ธThe name Beagle comes from the French word begueule, which means open throat. They have 3 different vocalisations a bark, a yodel-like sound, and a howl.๐ฒ
๐ธ๏ธBeagles were first recognised in the 1400s, and Queen Elizabeth 1 used to ride with a pocket Beagle in her saddle bag. The original Beagles were smaller than they are now, which stood 8 to 9 inches (20 to 23 cm) at the shoulder. Small enough to fit in a "pocket" or saddlebag, they rode along on the hunt. The larger hounds would run the prey to ground, and then the hunters would release the small dogs to continue the chase through underbrush. ๐๐ณ
๐ธ๏ธIn the 1800s, Reverend Phillip Honeywood started a Beagle pack in Essex that is believed to be the ancestors of modern Beagles. ๐พ
๐ธ๏ธWhen they are young, Beagles have lots of energy and need to be able to release it all. As they get olde, they are happy to relax but still love to use their energy.๐คช
๐ธ๏ธFamous beagles are Snoopy, Odie from the Garfield comic, and Gromit from Wallace and Gromit.๐ซ
