Something different for Betty the Beagle tonight πŸ’›

We did a bit of the usual jumping on and jumping over etc...

And then we slowed her body down and worked her brain 🧠

As expected there was a little frustration whilst she figured out what we were trying to achieve, but being as smart as she is, she soon got it.

These exercises are very good for dog physiotherapy and also great mental simulation.

Betty went home exceedingly happy.

I reckon she'll sleep tonight 🀣

Your puppy needs sleep!!

Just like a baby.

They need sleep to grow, and to promote a healthy state of mind.

If they don't get enough sleep they become REALLY annoying.

You don't need to occupy them all day.

The art of doing nothing is a really valuable skill.

It's important they have some personal space.

And it's important you have it too.

So when you've walked, played, trained, fed, and toileted them, pop them in the crate for an hour.

A calm dog makes better decisions, and a calm human is better equipped to deal with a challenging puppy.

Makes sense, right?

Huge relief.

This is Koda.

He's 6 months old.

When he comes in from wet muddy walks he can stay on the front door mat while his human takes her all her wet gear off, changes in to indoor stuff, puts her bag, lead, etc away.

Then he gets dried because he's a typical soggy spaniel.

Then he gets released to be free in the home.

That's seriously impressive.

I didn't teach them this.

I taught HOW to teach.

There's a huge difference.

Because once you understand how to teach and how to communicate the world is your oyster.

I was honestly blown away.

I actually said "Even MY dogs wouldn't do this!"

Great work Taylor and Koda!!!

This one usually upsets people.

"It's his walk, he decides what we do..."

Yeah I get your point.

However.

I'm not saying you shouldn't go to his favourite places.

Or that he shouldn't be allowed to stop and sniff.

I'm saying your dog shouldn't be dragging you about doing whatever they please.

Now if your dog is under control, it's only right that they get to enjoy some freedom, that's our ultimate goal.

But you've got to know your dog will follow instruction from the person leading the walk.

Dogs are much happier when they have a calm confident leader.

And you'll be much happier too.

There's a huge difference.

Are you enjoying being outdoors together?

Or are you just tiring them out so you can watch the telly in peace?

Are you communicating and training in different environments?

Or are you scrolling through your socials while you're waiting for the dog to take a πŸ’© so you can get home to Netflix?

Are you doing anything at all to build on your relationship?

Or are you just ticking a box?

Your dog knows the difference.

Am I calling you out?

Damn right I am.

If you want the best FOR your dog and FROM your dog, walk WITH your dog.

Enjoy the world together.

Is your furry friend giving you the cold shoulder? 🐾 Here are some common reasons why your dog might be ignoring you and what you can do about it:

* Lack of Engagement: Dogs need mental and physical stimulation. Try incorporating new activities in your training sessions, playing tug and chase is usually a huge hit, and exploring new places together is always fun.

* Medical Issues: If your dog's behavior changes suddenly, consult your vet to rule out any underlying health problems.

* Stress or Anxiety: Changes in routine or environment can cause stress. Provide calm and consistent leadership for your dog and try to reduce unnecessary stress while building confidence. Remember some stress is good for dogs but we have to be aware of their limits and not push too far.

* Attention-Seeking Behavior: Your Dog may have learned that ignoring you will cause you to increase your efforts to tempt them. Did you ever say "Oh let me get a better treat so he'll listen" ??? We've all done it πŸ˜‰

* Weak Bond: Consistency is key to a strong bond. Spend quality time with your dog daily, engaging in activities you both enjoy. Provide clear boundaries so your dog knows what's allowed, and celebrate good behaviour.

Remember, patience is key! Building a strong relationship takes time and effort. If you're concerned about your dog's behavior, get in touch for a chat.

We've got a poorly Menace.

She has a very sore ear.

She had to miss out this morning and stay home.

We'll be at the vets if she's not improving in a couple of days, but I have plenty of things to try first.

Get well soon Menace ❀️

πŸ‘Supporting each other πŸ‘

The way it should be πŸ’ͺ

This morning we were joined by Abbi from .liverpool for our Walk, Talk, and Train at the Albert Dock.

It was lovely to finally meet in person and spend time together.

And it was evident she had a beautiful relationship with one of her client dogs, Mollie, who came to practice her skills with new dogs.

I'm so proud of our team for being so welcoming and supportive to new faces.

There's not many trainers who can say that πŸ˜…

Thank you Abbi for coming along today, we look forward to seeing you again next time.

And I think Mollie has a new fan club 😍

Get in the bin.

I adore my dogs.

But..!!!!!

There's been sooo many days that I haven't liked them.

It might have been for a few seconds or it could have been quite a while.

It doesn't make me a bad person.

It doesn't change how much I love them.

It doesn't affect what I'd do for them.

It's just that dogs can be really hard work.

And they can seem so ungrateful for all the effort you put in.

Especially when you're dealing with a full on puppy, or a dog with serious behavioural issues.

You spend all you can afford on their food, toys, training, and vet bills, yet they drag you down the street, bark at other dogs, s**t on your new carpet, and eat the left shoe of each of your most favourite pairs. Why can't they just eat both shoes from 1 pair instead of half of 2?

Anyway, stop beating yourself up for being human.

Find something fun to do together.

And focus on the wins.

They're not here for long enough, don't waste your time feeling bad about the moments that don't matter.

Just breathe, it'll all work out.

Anyone else done with the leaves already??

And don't even get me started on the awful people who leave it hidden on the path in the park.

I guess it's part of the initiation process for our new winter boots...

Your dog doesn't need to be a social butterfly.

It's actually much better for you both if they're not.

I'd much prefer my dog sought my company and attention than that of another dog or person.

And if your dog is particularly antisocial, that's OK.

You see dogs aren't all the same, just like us humans.

Some find comfort in company and some find comfort alone, and that can change day to day.

There's nothing wrong with walking through the park without stopping to chat if that's better for you and your dog.

And it's OK to ask people to ignore your dog while you're enjoying a coffee.

Allowing this to happen causes reactivity anyway so it's my default setting.

"Please ignore my dog, we're training."

It sometimes offends people, but their feelings are none of my business, as long as I'm polite (I nearly always start off relatively polite 🀣)

Do what's right for you and your dog, the person trying to get your dog to say hi to their dog doesn't give a toss about your feelings or how much they might set back your training.

So you do you, and tell them I said so 😘
