Nearly tick free now. Another 6 of him today. Their just a couple of seed ticks around his bottom which will hopefully fall of.
He's just such a lovely old boy. Straight out for food once cleaned out. Can't blame him when he's so thin.
Found cap eggs in his sample last night.
These 26 ticks have been in this bowl of safe 4 disinfectant cleaner that's from one of my spray bottles used for cleaning the cages since about 10am this morning. They are still bloody alive how the hell are they not dead!. Horrible things.
Found cap eggs in Noels samples this morning. This is why it's so important to keep checking samples even if nothing is found the first couple of times. Think I did five sample checks before I found the lungworm last night. His breathings not great but he's on all the medications needed.
So a couple of months ago I spotted on my cameras a boy hog with a few ticks on his face but he was never out when I went over to check the feeders.
Then their was nothing seen of him since the first sightings. So I thought he had moved on or hibernated.
Boxing day I checked the camera in the release pen as the gate was open after toffee was released and their was Mr tick face, only his few ticks had now multiplied into a face full. He had woken up from his sleep and was about again. But despite me going out several times after dark since then their was no sign of him on the cameras.
Tonight I go out at 5.50pm check the camera and he had just been filmed seconds before I got their. So I check the house and their he was!.
18 ticks so far removed and I will leave the rest for the morning along with some meds to help. 525 grams so not a great weight poor guy.
Happy Christmas everyone. Thank you to everyone that has supported my little rescue this year. From donations of food, everyday essentials from the wish list, money donations, items for the spin the wheels etc.
And thank you to finders for rescuing hedgehogs in need and getting them the help needed, even if their wasn't a good outcome for that hog they were no longer suffering.
Thank you. 🦔☃️⛄️🦔🦔🦔🎄🎄
This video is of sisters acorn and Chestnut. Their is something very unusual about acorn and I will post the picture in the comments because I can't do videos and pictures on the same post. If you watch this clip acorn is at one at the front walking around. Her body shape is of a more flattened round shape, whare as Chestnut is a more upright rounded shape which is the way they should be.
Acorn can't curl up properly she's always been like this. Her legs do point the right way but when she curls up her legs point outwards and she can't tuck herself up properly.
So unfortunately she can't be released with her sister back into my garden whare she was found. She will have a permanent home in a secure garden most likely at kates rescue whare blind squishy is living.
They both still on some parasites treatment but their both at the weights now once treatments finished they can go out in the hutches to get used to the outdoors.
Excuse the noisy planes at the end of the video, I live right near the marsh and theirs a lot of plane activity today over the firing range.
Little one from yesterday spent most of the night unsettled. Lost some weight but is eating. Samples so far show lungworm and quite high cap.
Thanks to Marie from St John's primary school for bringing him over. They will look for siblings on Monday.
Just hate hearing this cough. Poorly Autumn and the lungworm caused cough.
To start with it was little chestnut that was a real worry, but she's now gaining weight and fighting the parasites. Now it's her bigger sibling acorn that's the real worry, she was doing really well but all of a sudden she's loosing lots of weight and her breathing has gotten bad. She's on antibiotics and I've changed a few of her parasite meds to see if it improves things. Hate hearing them struggling with their breathing.
Thank you to my thoughtful friend Lisa for my lovely gift and card.
Lisa found this great knitted topper and she asked Julia from Home Tweet Home Crafts to come up with something for it to sit on top of.
It's battery operated which is great for me as I have a African grey parrot and they can't be around candles or scented things.
Little chestnut has really been struggling with the roundworm burden. The last few days her poos have been a strange white/clear runny mess that smelt terrible and she was loosing weight. But today things are improving.
Acorn being the bigger sister has been coping better.
Neither of them will eat meat, only biscuits.
Got a little one visiting the feeding stations. It knows how to get through the flaps on the tunnels.
