🐐Are you looking for a natural alternative to worming?

During a recent trip to the most fascinating and delightful reserve in Norfolk, I chatted to the tour guides on how they keep parasites in their gazelles, deer and other ruminants to a minimum.
•
They said that they grow Sainfoin amongst their vegetation for the grazers to feed on to reduce parasite burdens.
•
💡This had me thinking and did some research!😎
•
🪱Sainfoin provides effective worm control when fed to goats as it disrupts the worm’s life cycle.
•
The condensed tannins in sainfoin are toxic to worms and can help reduce the worm burden in your goats.
•
Sainfoin is also bloat-free and can also modify cheese sensory properties and fatty acid profile.
•
Obviously it’s not convenient to be planting fields of the flower however it is available in pellet form.
•
In conclusion, sainfoin is a great plant to feed your goats. It provides them with essential nutrients and can help with their digestion as well as being an effective wormer!

The boys have been knocking their water bucket over recently but alas; a solution! A discarded tractor tyre is the perfect vessel for their bucket. 👌🏻

🖤Something a little different and special I wanted to share with my followers.🖤
•
Introducing Nera Verzasca…a pure black breed of goat that originates from the southern mountain valleys in Switzerland.
•
🖤This is 12 year old Nero and belongs to - please do check their account out for breathtaking photos of their trekking pack goats - thank you for sharing your photos.
•
The Verzasca valley is narrow with steep sides; the remote alps are built as stone buildings and that is the home of the Nera Verzascas.
•
And interestingly, it is this same dam where James Bond jumps off in Golden Eye… 🎞️🎬
•
Sadly, I’m unaware of breeders in the UK but oh how I would love to bring these black beauties over to join my herd!
•

Thought I’d introduce myself.
•
My name is Carrie and I’ve only just realised I’m nutty about goats! 😆
•
I’ve kept goats all my life; from a very naughty ‘glove eating’ Saanen nanny, to crisp loving Pygmy goats! However I’ve only recently discovered the joys of Anglo Nubian goats.
•
A large, gentle, inquisitive breed, I deemed them a perfect choice for my plans of trekking - strong enough to carry packs; and yet docile enough to mingle with the crowds 😉.
•
Since spending time with this charming breed, I’ve also realise what perfect therapy goats they are too.
•
The idea of them being able to help others through the strains of life really is encouraging.
•
💙 Turning a life long passion into an exciting venture would just be the icing on the cake….
•
A long haul ahead but I’ll certainly have fun in the process! 🙋🏼‍♀️
•

Remembrance Day is a day to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. It is also a time to remember all the animals that served and lost their lives alongside British and Allied Forces in wars and campaigns throughout time.
🌹
The often unsung heroes of dogs, cats, horses, elephants, pigeons, goats, donkeys, camels and even glow-worms that provided light for the ‘boys’ in the trenches enabling them to read their letters from loved ones, all played a role in service.
🌹
A very special mascot goat, HM Billy Goat of 2nd Battalion was just one of the animals that regiments have kept as mascots to work alongside them, bringing luck and strengthen morale. This practice is very old and dates back to an incident at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775, during the American War of Independence. A wild goat is thought to have strayed onto the battlefield and led the Royal Welsh Fusiliers’ colour party from the field. A goat has served with the regiment ever since.

From the pigeon to the elephant, they all played a vital role in every region of the world in the cause of human freedom. Their contribution must never be forgotten.

🙋🏼‍♀️ Number one rule when it comes to videoing goats….always have an extra pair of hands on side! 😆 • This is the groups first introduction to wearing a harness in readiness for their packs. • I thought these dog harnesses from @theflashingdog would be a perfect way of desensitising the goats to the feel of something around their girth and chest. • They took to it far better than I thought!
