Hi everyone sorry we had some technical difficulties with the page that resulted in me accidentally getting removed, but thanks to Ann and Sophie who kept the page going and eventually managed to resolve the issue and re add me to the page.

I also come baring good news and bad news, the good news is I’ll be starting group classes at “let the dogs run” just outside Autcherader, this is only a temporary location until we get the green light to start group sessions again in Stirling. However the bad news is due to another trainer using the facility on a Sunday and me working with may team on Saturdays we can’t start these classes till February when I’ll have my Saturdays free.

In the meantime I’ll be taking requests to join the groups I also recommend older clients booking a refresher 121 (to be held in Stirling), as well as new clients booking a 121 before group classes start, so that I can place you in a group that’ll best suit you dogs/puppies training needs.

Oops

23/10/2022

Hi everyone sorry I have been in hiding a bit, main reason was we can’t do group classes just yet on the Stirling ground, however I may be getting ground just outside Perth which will allow group classes so will keep you posted on that side of things.

The other reason for being quiet is the decision to move between Perth and Stirling with my training, however the name of this page would be very misleading giving clients the impression of only operating in the Stirling area.

For some reasons Facebook won’t let me or other Admins update the business information, so I will keep this page open as a point of contact for Stirling and lower Scotland clientele but I’ll be mostly posting on a new page “SuyianofAlba Gundogs”, which will have training videos as well as Q&A and the odd Gundog related adventures I have with my team, so feel free to give it a follow.

Morning everyone I have just had a 121 cancelled tomorrow due to client getting covid and before I give it up the field to another trainer, I was wondering if there’s anyone who’d like a training session at 14:00-15:00 tomorrow afternoon, it’s a one off opportunity to get a last minute session booked as I’ll be in Stirling anyway.

Hi everyone, I really hope you all had a fantastic new year and I’m sure many of you are wondering about classes especially the group classes.

Unfortunately for those coming up to mine the farmer has started prepping the field for spring plantation, and other field have livestock in, so that is out.

The field that Ann has secured is still having a few issues with planning permission for group classes and so that is out.

We do have the centre as the sheep have been moved, however theirs a high chance that they may be moved back the minute we start a block. Which makes it risky and they could be there for a good while again, but if you want to take the risk I’m happy to host as many classes as possible (maybe book 2 classes instead of 4). So if you’d like to take the risk leave a comment and I’ll discuss it with Ann.

Otherwise until then for those who want to keep on top of their training, and those new to pet Gundog training Stirling who’s like to get a head start, we still have plenty of room to book 121s which will be held in Stirling.

It was great to be back down in Stirling on Tuesday where we had Ann with Lilly Beth and Fiona with Nammie for a 121 in the new field.

(Ann has very kindly been the voice in the video, or it would probably be twice the length with me explaining what we are doing)

Now though we worked on a number of different basic retrieving exercises, Facebook is funny and will only allow one video at a time, so I decided to go with the one where we brought everything together.

So what we did before this video was one a few minutes of playtime retrieving to help get rid of the pups energy, and also build up its desire to retrieve. Though the latter isn’t necessary with a puppy like Lilly Beth who retrieving comes naturally it can be beneficial to pups that may find retrieving uninteresting or boring and normally something I’d only do when I first get a new puppy. Basically all we did was throw a toy and if Lilly ran past it so what if she picked it up then great and we’d encourage her to bring it back to hand again if she had dropped it at our feet it didn’t matter that can all come later when you have built in the desire to retrieve.the whole point of this exercise was to make retrieving fun for the pup.

Next we went on to try and achieve some control over the training and so we moved on to enforcing a sit and wait before a retrieve, we did this by holding Lilly back with a lose slip lead and sending her on a command making sure to hold her a little longer each time. Now with me normally if I ask my dog to sit it means sit and wait for next command but if I ask it to stay it means I’m going to be out of the dogs sight and want it to remain on spot until I’m back, or I want to cross an obstacle before the dog to make sure it’s safe on the other side(this is particularly useful when you still need to get a few things from the car or climbing over a stile etc), again we wanted to still give the puppy the idea was fun so for today only we allowed Lilly Beth to retrieve everything, but normally with a puppy Lilly Beth’s age I’d be teaching them that not every retrieve is theirs, but as Lilly Beth has done very little Gundog training since she was 4/5month, and is going through her second fear stage, I wanted to keep the lessons short and simple to set her up for a much greater chance of success, rather than over complicating the lessons and making her nervous and confused so she fails.

The. We started to introduce a command to have Lilly simply watch out for the dummy, by simply saying the word (in Ann’s case mark) before the dummy was thrown, and very quickly the pup caught on to what this meant and started to watch for the dummy when the command was given.

Finally we now had a little control over a simple retrieve but Lilly would still sun out in different ways towards the dummy (fore example a wide arch or a zigzag), so we then used a fence line to encourage a straight line for the retrieve. The use of a fence line can also benefit many different areas of basic Gundog training such as building confidence, marking where the dog was when blowing a stop whistle allowing for easy corrections or teaching various hand signals, all of which I’ll go through in our classes.

In the meantime we still can’t host group classes as there’s a little more work that needs doing in the field, but we are able to hold 121s which will be available to book from Monday with exceptions too the 31st, 1st and 2nd.

In the meantime I hope you all have a very merry Christmas, and look forward too seeing you all back very soon and meeting some new faces

Morning everyone, tomorrow will be the last group class until the new year for those who can make it up to Crieff (if you are planning on coming please let me know class will be at 12pm, so I have time to walk the dogs afterwards), and then hopefully we will be back in Stirling early next year.

I have decided 121s will be back in Stirling using one of the pens at the back of the centre, you can still book 121s for this year except for 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st, 1st and 2nd which will be off for Christmas and New Years.

Hi everyone those who were planning on coming to training tomorrow, unfortunately I’m away in Glasgow dropping my father at the airport and not sure when I’ll be home, so will have to cancel tomorrow’s class.

As for what’s happening with the field Ann is the best person to talk to on that font.
