Freckles-Designs Dog Coats

I was trying to avoid a long post by doing a video reel instead but that backfired as facebook wouldnt let me load it 🤦‍♀️, so here's a wee summary of whats ahappening. Don't worry - I'm not closing down - just making a few tweaks as to how I operate. 😊

I'm sure you all know that these last couple of years have been particularly hard on small businesses and it was starting to stress me out so I decided to get a part-time job just to give me some guaranteed income each month. I found one much sooner than expected and so things moved quickly. So I am now working part-time as a bookkeeper for a local brewery! 🍻

As I will have reduced daytime hours I have also decided to end the lease on my workshop in Stirling and pull everything back into my home sewing studio which means that those local to Stirling will no longer be able to visit the workshop unfortunately.

Pulling everything back into the house means I have less space but lots of fabric so I have decided for the next couple of months to stop Made to Order orders on the website and work through some of my fabric. This means I can choose the sizes / colours to make dependant on what I have in stock as opposed to you being able to 'build' your own coat.

As I make the coats I will be putting them on the website as stock items which are made and ready to post. So from 1st September you wont be able to order a coat (custom or standard sized) you will only be able to purchase what I have made.

I envisage this to only be for a couple of months till I get used to my new working arrangements and have worked through some of the fabric. Depending on how it goes, if I can maintain stock levels, I may continue working on this basis - you buy what is made - and open slots for custom orders.

This just gives me better control of my time and allows me to work more efficiently and instead of making 'one of this and one of that' per your orders, I can batch sew more. That's the theory anyway!

Sorry again that the reel didnt load, but hopefully you all know have a better understanding of where I'm at, and I look forward to many more years of sewing.

Hi guys, just to let you know that I will be suspending new orders on the website from 1st September for a couple of months. I will be working on a stock only basis - so you can only purchase on the website what I have made.
The workshop in Stirling is also now closed to customers.

I'm at Doghailes at Newhailes House, Edinburgh today. Here till 4pm if anyone wants to pop down to get their dog measured or try on coats. Just £2 entry fee, lots of other stalls and activities for your dogs too.

I'll be at the Purple Poppy Armed Forces day tomorrow with my stall at Callendar Park, Falkirk.

It all kicks off with a piped parade from Falkirk High Street at 915am to Callendar Park and then there is lots to see and do there with military displays, music, fun dog shows to enters and stalls (come visit mine!) too.

The Cuillin Cooling Coat Sport edition has been designed for, well, sporty dogs!

Being shorter in length than the standard coat makes for a neater fit and so is perfect for more active dogs. It's still very effective at cooling as both coats have the same chest panel which helps cool the body core and make your dog feel much more comfortable in the heat.

Drying coats are being given a good workout at the moment!

All Freckles Drying Coats are made by me in Stirling, Scotland. Made from quality materials and sewn to last so you can use your coat for years and years to come ( a bit of 🌞 would be nice though!)

Jax is a gorgeous American Labrador and is wearing an Extra Large ... I make 2 sizes that are even bigger than this.

Heading to the beach? ⛱️

Then don't forget your drying coat !

Not only does it dry your dog, it helps protect your car from all the sand that clings to your dog's hair on the drive home. The microfibre towel lining also grabs onto the grains of sand and so when you take the coat off your dog give it a good shake out and it's ready to use again on your next visit.

Temperatures are forecasted to rise next week and a cooling coat is great for keeping your dog cool and comfortable during the warmer months.

I have just added 5 of these technical softshell jackets to the website. Made from a lightweight waterproof stretch fabric they are perfect for the summer.

This is all I have of these fabric so there is unlikely to be more made which is a shame as I love the sporty look so if you want one best be quick. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

The sizes I have made and are ready to post are,:

Blue - Large Deep (62cm long), Medium (48cm) and Small (40cm)
Red - Large (60cm) and Intermediate (54cm)

The lovely Otis drying off in his Ness drying coat after a fun filled muddy walk. The blackwatch tartan pattern looks fabulous on him.

The medium size is a perfect fit for him too.

The snug fit of my coats means that water is absorbed quickly away from your dog's fur and, as they dry and warm up, your dog's body heat allows the water to evaporate from the coat resulting in a dry dog and a dry coat.

Someone has got their first drying coat !

Slightly too big for Custard just now but he'll soon grow into it - and of course with a name like that it had to be yellow 💛

For puppies I recommend my Tay drying coat as there is more flexibility for growth. Once they are fully grown in length, which is usually around 9 months, then the Ness drying coat is a great buy for that extra coverage and their forever drying coat.

A cooling coat is a great piece of kit to help keep your dog comfortable when the warmer weather does arrive.

I make my Cuillin Cooling Coats in standard and custom sizes and so they fit all breeds and shapes. It works through heat evaporation with the cool fabric drawing the heat from your dog.

Sweet Lola is a romanian rescue dog, and like many is a mixed breed and so has a 'non standard' shape. She is a small dog with a long back and so required me to make custom sized coats for her.

Here she is togged out in her Morlich Waterproof Coat and Tay Drying coat, all set for the wet weather that we are currently experiencing far too much of just now!

Another soggy day means another day where drying coats are needed.

Simply pop it on your dog after their walk, let them snooze away in it dreaming of the fun they've just had, all the while warming up and drying off nicely in their cosy drying coat.

As the water is absorbed by the microfibre towel lining of the drying coat, your dog warms up, their body heat allows the water to evaporate from the coat and so your dog is free to sleep on in a warm and dry coat. 💤

In these trying times businesses are looking at ways to diversify and so I am heading to Australia to launch my new Kangeroo Cooling Coat!

Well that's only half a lie - I am heading to Australia soon to visit my sister and so this is a heads up that my order cut off date before I fly is **** April 19th ****. This allows me a couple of weeks to get your orders made up and in the post before I head off to the sun!

The website will remain open but orders placed after this date are unlikely to be made until I am back to work on 27th May.

It's nearly April so that means April Showers, but never fear - a Morlich Waterproof Coat will keep your dog nice and dry. ☔️
