Something has been preying on mind for a few days now so I thought I would see what you thought.

I received a low review on my website from a customer who was disappointed with the packaging of her coat and it has upset me a wee bit and I can't stop thinking about it.

I have consciously made the decision to reduce packaging to lower the environmental impact of excess waste as much as possible. I use recycled mailbags, sometimes boxes, and occasionally tissue paper if an item requires protection.

There are lots of small businesses out there that make the unpacking of their items an experience by using stickers, tissue paper, free gifts. I do get that this makes it a bit more exciting to open, but does extra packaging make the product any better and would you be more inclined to shop there again because it was nice to open?

I'm honestly interested to know if repackaging my products would make any difference to you buying from me again, or if I just let the comment go and continue as is ?

Who loves Freckles? Well here's a freckly jumper for you. (Is freckly a word??)

These spots will brighten up any walk on a dreich day. Choose from a slip on jumper or opt to have a full length zip instead. Also available with front legs should you so wish. If you choose a zip I also sew a zip flap under it so it fastens smoothly without catching on your dogs fur. Comfort is key!

11 standard sizes or I also do custom made to measure jumpers too for any shape and size. Lots of other colours to choose from aswell

*Limited Edition* two tone drying coats

I've had an idea for these two tone drying coats for a while now, and have started incorporating the yoke on a few one off quilted coats too. The idea of the yoke came to me when I was watching Yellowstone and saw the back of John Duttons leather jacket!

I had a bit of the silver grey fleece so have made 4 of these monochrome grey/black Ness drying coats ready for posting.

So here we are - it's 2025!!

I'll be honest with you, 2024 was a bit of a blip year for Freckles Designs. After 13 years of trading I lost my mojo. It was a tough year, sales were down, footfall at events were lower, and when people did attend they weren't spending as much. The cost of materials are continuing to rise and I felt I was working harder and harder for less profit.

I came close to packing it all in at the middle of the year but my husband, being the voice of reason, said I worked too hard having built a good reputation and solid client base to just let it all go.

So I got myself a part-time job that I was excited about. Unfortunately it didn't work out as I'd hoped and I left after a few months, but what it did give me was headspace and time to reflect. And I realised that I love sewing, I love being my own boss and yes I still want to move forward with the business.

So here we are in 2025!

I have new fire in my belly, I'm exploring new sales avenues, rethinking the way I work, I have ended the lease on my workshop and moved everything back home, I am considering new exciting products, attending different events and am feeling re-energised.

Thank you to everyone who stood by me during my wobble, and hello to everyone who just discovered me last year. Here's hoping 2025 is a great year for all of us!

It's that time between Christmas and New Year when you're not quite sure what day of the week it is !
Plenty of food will be eaten, and I'm sure they'll be a few power naps in there too.

Loki is fast asleep in his Tripaw drying coat - all my tripaw coats are made to measure ensuring a neat comfortable fit for long cosy sleeps.

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. 🎄

A few days off sewing for me now, but only for a few before the withdrawal symptoms kick in and I'm back sewing away again!

The website remains open and i'll be doing a post run on the 30th and the 3rd January before normal service resumes.

An unusual request for a make this week, and my first coat made for a pig, but I'm pleased with how it turned out, and Penny looks very dapper in it - could this be a new line for Freckles?

The Dundas fleece jumper, with the addition of a full length zip along the back, is perfect for old dogs to wear on chilly days.

The zip means it's easy for your dog to step into the front legs, the leg bottoms are wide enough for arthritic paws ( and can be made wider on request) and the jumper is also shaped deeper at the rear to cover the hips. So your dog can stay cosy and warm while still having lots of free movement.

My boy Alfie is nearly 13 now and has arthritis. He may be a little stiffer and slower but in true spaniel fashion he still loves his walks and definitely enjoys them eve ln more on these cold days when he has his Dundas fleece on.

Made from water resistant red microfleece with a candy cane trim, the jumper can be worn outside or inside to bring some extra christmas cheer. 🎅

These bandanas have an elasticated band so they simply slip over your dog's head - no collar or tying required - for a comfortable fit.

Available in 3 sizes: Small up to 13", Medium fits up to 16", Large fits up to 21"

* Please supervise your dog when they are wearing the bandana, remove during rigourous playtime and exercise, and remove if leaving your dog alone.

Who says that pink is only for girls? 🩷

This colour looks great on Spike. This Ness drying coat is over 8 years old and used to belong to his sister Roxy who sadly is no longer with us. It is great to see her drying coat still going strong though.

I believe in making products that last, using quality fabrics, and constructing garments using strong seams that last the test of time. Slow fashion, not fast throwaway fashion, so that the coats can be used through generations.

I'm sure many of you will have seen similar posts from other businesses regarding the new GPSR rules that affect sales to the EU and Northern Ireland. Basically it's to do with product safety, and along with extra documentation there is a requirement that all businesses have a 'responsible person' in each country that they sell products to. There is obviously a cost involved in this and it is just too prohibitive for small businesses to take this on.

This new rule comes into effect on 13th December so unfortunately I will no longer be able to ship products to Northern Ireland after this date (I had already stopped selling to the EU due to Brexit).

So if you are in Northern Ireland and would like to purchase something before the new rule kicks in, please do so by the end of this week (1st December.)

And so it begins - snow is on the way for parts of Scotland this weekend ❄️

The Tulla Zipped fleece jumper is made from two layers of bonded fleece to keep your dog warm and dry whilst playing in the snow. The full length zip along the back makes it easy to get on and off with no bending of legs, and the cut of the coat allows your dog freedom to run.

Who loves a stylish Christmas Jumper ?? 🎄🎅

Well here's my jumper design for this year. Made from a warm, quick drying red microfleece with fantastic white, red and green striped trim.

Available in standard and custom sizes with prices starting from £24, with a standard cocker size being £27 and a labrador coat just £34!

I have limited trim for these so once that runs out it's a wrap as they say ! 🎁
