Having lived in Africa for many years, I struggled to find treats and biscuits for my dog and the ones I did find were often overpriced and stale! So, as a cake decorator and keen baker, I decided to put my skills into action and bake my own dog treats. Unlike standard mass produced treats, Kelso and Titch treats are handmade using only natural ingredients. These actually taste so good that I'm te

mpted to eat them myself, but I wouldn't like to deprive my pooch! The company is named after my dogs who were both brought to the UK from Africa. Sadly Titch is no longer with us as the evacuation from his native Libya in 2011 and subsequent 6 months quarantine just proved too much for his state of mind. Kelso was adopted by us earlier this year from a neighbour in Luanda, Angola. When we knew we were moving back to the UK we brought her with us and she is currently ruling the roost in her new home with us in Scotland.

Colour Friday is this coming Friday, 28th November and yes, it’s on the same day as Black Friday and it’s fabulous and very different - a real event to support!

I wanted to share some food for thought with you!

5 ways Colour Friday is different TO BLACK FRIDAY - huge thanks to Holly Tucker for this awesome concept and for commissioning this gorgeous artwork!

It's better for the planet!

Where Black Friday focuses on soulless, impulsive consumption (with mass produced goods that often end up in landfill), we're encouraging everyone to shop more ethically - and with their hearts - for unique, handmade finds and experiences, created with care and made to last.

It's better for communities

By voting with their money, customers are helping communities thrive. It means people still get the human touch, not faceless chains.
It encourages us to work together and collaborate, not compete for deals. We know we are stronger together.

It's better for building a fairer society

Supporting small businesses means that money is spread between the many rather than going into the pockets of the few, funding family run businesses not billionaires. Colour Friday shines a light on independents who can't compete with big sales so they're not constantly overshadowed.

It's better for you, the shoppers

Colour Friday campaigns for a world where the gifts we give are one-of-a-kind and meaningful, and our shopping experience (as well as our homes and lives) are full of creativity, colour and personality, not just generic, soulless brands.

It's better for showing Christmas spirit

Christmas isn't the time for a stressful, shopping frenzy. It's a time to live mindfully by our values, to help each other and connect us, to put principles before profit. That's exactly what Colour Friday supports and stands for — quality not quantity.

If you are still with me, and I hope you are, I wanted to share just some fabulous small (and local) businesses that I have purchased from and can highly recommend!

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever done. Our founder and chief treat tester Kelso crossed the rainbow bridge this morning.

She suffered a stroke last night which affected her mobility and given her age and other issues, the kindest thing to do was to let her go.

The vet at was absolutely amazing and so kind. I laid on the floor with Kelso until she drifted off to sleep.

From her beginnings in Luanda, Angola all the way to Scotland, she had the absolute best life and of course was the inspiration for our business.

She was loved to the end. Run free Kelso 🌈 🐶

Stonehaven Outdoor Pool

We are at it again – trying something new and something quite special which we wanted to trial this year.

This one is all about the Doggo’s!!!! Treat your pup to a splash-tastic swim in our outdoor pool—designed for dogs and their humans to enjoy together.

We are now in the final week of our heated season, and we want to end it in the best way possible by inviting the doggo’s and their humans in for the final swim of summer 2025, after this session we will have a small closure to clean our water and prepare for our very successful cold swimming sessions which will be advertised soon.

This is a save the date for Sunday the 14th September, sessions will be 45 minutes long and we will have 5 sessions over the day.

We will post again when bookings will be opening. It’s limited spaces so keep an eye on our page.

🚨Important Shipping Update for our US customers 🇺🇸

From 29 August 2025 the US has scrapped its de minimis rule meaning all orders, no matter the value, now have to pay import tariffs.

📦 What this means for you:

🟢 We will still ship to the US ❤️
🟢 But shipping costs will increase to cover new tariffs and customs fees.
🟢 All parcels will now go through full customs checks, so deliveries may take longer.

This change affects every international seller, not just us, but we’re committed to making sure your orders still reach you safe and sound. 🐾

Thanks for your understanding and continued support ❤️

We are often asked what breed Kelso is. We usually just reply with ‘she’s a mutt’ but in actual fact she’s an Africanis, but as most people have never heard of them, we don’t bother explaining.

Here’s a wee bit about the breed if you’re interested.

The dog of Africa 🐾

The Africanis breed truly embodies the spirit of Africa. These dogs are believed to have descended from the ancient pariah dogs that roamed the continent for centuries. They were developed through natural selection, adapting to various environments and forming a unique genetic makeup.
Originally used by indigenous people for herding livestock and guarding settlements, Africanis dogs have since become beloved family pets.

One of the most endearing qualities of Africanis dogs is their gentle and affectionate nature. They are incredibly loyal and thrive on human companionship. Africanis dogs have a strong sense of family and are known to form deep bonds with their owners.

The Africanis breed is a true gem when it comes to pets. Their rich history, combined with their gentle temperament, loyalty, and adaptability, makes them an excellent choice for individuals and families alike.

So, embrace the Africanis magic and let these incredible dogs add a touch of adventure and companionship to your life!
