We definitely have a soft spot for the working Clumber Spaniel.

Despite a long history as a gundog, with excellent scenting abilities and determination, 50 years or so ago there were very few examples of working Clumber Spaniels in existence, and they are still on the Kennel Club's list of Vulnerable Native Breeds. However, impressive work from the Working Clumber Spaniel Society has seen the breed start to make a resurgence, and it has been fantastic to see these magnificent dogs return to the field.

With the working season in full swing, it’s worth reviewing your dog’s diet and looking to take a nutritional ‘step-up’ if their activity level has increased. This tends to be a better option rather than increasing the daily intake of their out-of-season food, especially if they are prone to dropping weight.

Three of our Field & Trial recipes have been formulated especially for this situation:
🐕 Working 23: for dogs with a moderate to high activity level, with a protein level of 23% and a fat level of 10%. A firm favourite with many working dog handlers!
🐕 Working 26: for dogs regularly working at a moderate to high intensity, with a protein level of 26% and a fat level of 16% to ensure sustained performance ability. Ideal for working gundogs, or agility and flyball dogs.
🐕 Working 30: for dogs regularly working at a high intensity, with a protein level of 30% and a fat level of 20% to ensure an energy dense diet that fuels performance. A good choice for dogs in regular intense work.

Protein is essential to support growth, repair and regeneration of their tissues, but dogs preferentially use fat as a source of energy, so for highly active dogs, a moderate to high level of fat in the diet is important as it can help to fuel intense and prolonged periods of activity.

Certificates of Merit were awarded to Kate Bollen, Simi Barrett, Mark Damine, Lee Hartis and the Duchess of Devonshire.

What does a dog food photoshoot look like? This!

You may have seen some new photos of our wet food range appearing here and there over the past few weeks, so here's a behind-the-scenes look at the day they were taken. Thank you to our team, who spent a lot of time slicing, cubing and serving wet food plus arranging all of the ingredients within it that we wanted to showcase. Wet food adds moisture to your dog's diet, which is especially important for dogs who don't drink enough water.

We are always impressed by the Murphy's Army Purple Poppy Campaign, honouring those who served and those who serve us today. They have raised nearly £200,000 to help former service animals in their retirement, a fantastic achievement to support dogs and other animals who have worked so hard in the line of duty. We will be observing a 2 minute silence at 11:00am today to remember the humans and animals who gave their lives.

Many were killed in service, and today we remember their sacrifice, as well as the sacrifice of the men and women they served alongside.
