PLAY DYNAMICS
๐Excuse my voice over in this ๐
This morning we got the fabulous Eric together for a play date with the lovely Lenny.
Both social adolescent males, and now Eric's training and support has got him to a point where he is able and ready to have more prolonged dog intercations.
I don't do these often because it involves having the right personality match (which is a big one), I don't want it to go wrong, and it can be chaotic.
These boys where amazing! Did we give them an hour of off lead play? ๐ค No.
We set them up for success. We got them out the cars one by on, had them on longlines for space to move and sniff, let them do the perimeter of the paddock following each others scent trails and doing engagement games with their guardians. Then when they were ready we decreased the distance, they came in for a hello, and we dropped the lines once we knew they were okay together.
We supported in pausing play so to avoid it getting to overly aroused and silly (this is where mistakes in communication between dogs can happen, and issues developed). As both are adolescent males, adrenaline levels and emotional regulation can need support.
We then let them come in for a short final play, and then supported in proximity and arousal reduction through sniffing amd foraging ๐
What a great pair ๐

Making good choices ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ
Let's hear what good choices your companions have been making recently ๐๐
Betty ๐
This absolute stunner smashed it this afternoon ๐๐ฅณ
Betty came to me for recall, loose-lead walking and car reactivity. All interesting behaviours, coupled with harness aversion coat swirls, and back Twinges. So we approached it all as a whole and interconnected as they seem linked.
We started off with some recall and lead walking games in a secure paddock. Then SLOWLY ๐ worked around triggers at home, building on engagement and small successes.
We then added in the all important Free Work to help her to regulate and reset, and support on her relationship with her equipment.
This evening we put it all together and braced the main road ๐ ๐ ๐ป ๐ an area that in thr past Betty would've been inconsolable around. She managed to walk towards it slowly, sniffing ๐ and holding engagement. She then even managed to watch the traffic ๐ cyclists๐ฒ and runners ๐โโ๏ธ go by. She chose space! Had ๐ crunches to decompress and we left before we asked too much.
Just amazing!! ๐
She's booked in for a physical assessment tp rule out physical discomfort as a factor, and we'll continue to build her support going forward. What a super star ๐

๐ Flo, Lola, & Izi ๐
This week I had my second session with this lovely team.
We looked at adding in each pair options with Lola to help build lead walking skills. By the end we had some wonderful fluid movements, with limited tangling ๐
What a fun session and great team. Does this mean they can do it in all scenarios this well? Not yet... but with time, patience, consistency, and support on Izi's reactivity we can get there. Lead walking is impacted by many variables, we need to support the dog as a whole to get success. Then build to the wider group.
Well done team ๐
๐ Hazel ๐
This gorgeous girl can have big feelings, and being a German Shepherd she can be verbal with those. We had an AMAZING session at dubcliff woods a month ago, where we used a raised snuffle bar, and found crunchy items to be really helpful regulation, we stood in the car park amd watched dogs go by. It was wonderful! I was too consumed to take picture ๐
Since then they've been on holiday where she was able to watch dogs without shouting hi or go away ๐ at any dogs ๐ค
Last session we started pram lead walking in preparation for before baby comes, at home in a nuce quiet area. Let me tell you she ACED it ๐ฅณ A year ago, Hazel would've been spinning and jarring from side to side.
So today we ramped it up ๐ช we did town, dogs, and pram and WOW! ๐ฒ
Her lead walking was gorgeous, she bimbled past 8/11 dogs we saw with no reaction. And the only reactions came when there was external stimuli such as a bike going by at the same time, a dog barking just before, a leaf blower and exercise group, plus man with hat in a tight space. But even though she had the odd minor moment she reset herself with minimal input from us. Something a month ago would not have happened in this environment at those distances, with that much going on.
Loon at her bimbling, processing the dog and then watching it go by! ๐๐ it's been a joy to support this partnership, and even more so at such a special time for them. She's a cracking dog, and it's lovely to see the progress they are making ๐

Wonderful session with Obi and his guardians today supporting calmer movement out if the car in a stimulating environment, support on calmer observations of stimulants in the environment, and more fluidity and connection within.
Just gorgeous ๐ look at them go!
Last time we came here we were pulled away from the car, and to the car, and he needed more space to calmly observe dogs. Obi is an adolescent vizla, would you believe? ๐ฎ Just gorgeous! ๐
Calm, considered, connected, minimal frustration, if any, the ability to move away on his own from triggering things ๐ฅ๐
And to end on some lovely balanced dog-dog play with a semi familiar dog.
This partnership are doing great! We started with free work and found he needed to shred and mouth soft things, but today he only needed to hold the snuffle ball when he saw me, and when a lively dog got close, that was it! No shredding at all, no humping, ans loads of connection โบ๏ธ
I love this sort of work ๐

What a wonderful week 5 โบ๏ธ
Olive couldn't join us but Kali and Ruby held down the Fort well. We had some wonderful recalls, lead walking, and stays. But the most wonderful bit was the puppy socialisation ๐
Ruby is naturally more timid with dogs, amd Kali is confident with her reisdent dog. Last week they had a sniff and then wanted to have space so we allowed, onlead, with lots of slack. This week we let them off. Ruby felt comfortable to explore her area and Kali found aesnibgful toy and took it to bed. Ruby then felt confident to build it the courage to say hi, but saw Kali was busy so took a toy to difuse tension, she gave Kali space. Wonderful.
This progressed to her coning forward with her toy, and Kali coming to meet her and then rolling over. Kali wasn't sure and Ruby read it well & moved away. This allowed Kali to have the confidence to come and explore, they had another quick sniff then moved themselves away & checked in with their guardians and they were done.
This is AMAZING puppy socialisation, no chaos, everyone reading each others signals, diffusion areas, support when needed, everyone coming away confident and happy. Wonderful!
Only a couple of spaces left on Autumn classes!
