What a wonderful Saturday morning ☺️

This morning I saw Lexi for the second Free Work session and Fluer for her first.

Lexi finds people very scary. Our first session I couldn't be anywhere near the set up, she could cope with me 10m away but no closer. Her guardians have been working really hard and doing Free Work 3 times a week to help her reset, build confidence, and learn to self regulate.

WOW 😯😁 this morning she walked in, no barking, saw my jacket on a chair and didn't worry, she built her confidence in the room, ate, looked over and gradually felt confident to come and sniff my leg. She really loosened up in her body and regulated really well. Just wonderful to see the difference. Looking forward to seeing her again next month ☺️

Second in was Fluer, she did my puppy classes & Juniors, she was always quiet but seemed curious and coped well. The onset of adolescence has proved difficult for Fluer and has resulted in dog and people reactivity. So we took to Free Work to see how we van support her further.

Just amazing! She saw my jacket on the chair had one Woof then straight to the snuffle to regulate 🥳 she quickly relaxed in and built up to come and sniff me the fed her curiosity by climbing everywhere (we already know this is meaningful for fluer as she climbs trees 🌳). She had a good play and highlighted some potential question marks over movement and comfortablility. What an interesting session. We now have a plan going forward on best ways to support her outside and build her confidence back up.

Not a bad way to end a week ☺️

Zeus 😍

I cannot tell you how proud I am of this team. They have truely stuck at it through some very difficult times. Poor Zeus has always struggled with life, even when he was tiny. They've had gut issues, touch sensitivities, separation issues, hu***ng, mouthing, vocalisations, car sensitivities, and we're investigating pain & internal imbalance.

He's got amazing support from a prestigious herbal vet, we've upped the Free Work and his guardian now reports she can leave him downstairs from 8am-1pm while she's upstairs at work! With meetings and everything! 🥳 Mere months ago this would've triggered a meltdown, and being upstairs with mum and meetings on would've triggered frustration, mouthing and an inability to settle. Not only this but the pair of them even went out for 30 minutes for dinner down the road and he was fine! 😁

I was speechless when she updated me today, and so so pleased for them. They've worked tirelessly to support Zeus, and we're seeing some BIG progress! 🙌🙌

Today we did more Free Work around the car issues, discussed ramps, & then went inside & he settled with me there for at least 45minutes! Un-heard of. Just wonderful to see.

Owning complex sensitive dogs can be challenging, but the rewards are amazing. What a team 🙏🙌🙌🥰

What a wonderful day! 🥳

Filled to the brim, the first half consisited of 3 seperate gorgeous new pooche's working on recall & lead walking 😊

Then I went off to see the lovely Nellie. We are supporting her with Reactivity to dogs, sound sensitivity, and today was helping her with her conflict over people in her space. She fizzes normally, and today she did amazingly!! She made great choices, could reset much more, she had a big fizz at me due to hearing a baby cry but was able to reset away. She even calmly followed me around and then asked to go inside & finish! Just amazing! So much progress with this amazing team, can't wait to go further 🤗

Finally I saw Stan & Ron to support again with people coming over and we started their Free Work journey. They did great! Very interesting choices, from jumping and mouthing from Stan to ignoring me and mooching happily, just glorious 🥳

Are you interested to know how Free Work can help your dog? Then come along to my workshop in October!

YES! 👇👇👇🙏🙏🙏

In a world which is constantly at our finger tips, we are bombarded with information overload 🤯

This goes into all areas of our life;

🔹 news / views of the world
🔸 fashion (something I’ve never been influenced by 😅)
🔹 fitness
🔸 dog training
🔹 diet

All areas to be honest!

In the world of Dog Training (and the diet industry) we are constantly wanting to “quick fix” our issues.

We watch a video, and we go “right that’s for me, that’s my solution right there!!” and shock horror, it doesn’t work. 😢

Watch the algorithms then start throwing up more and more influential ways to “help” 🥴

Dogs - oh my, this is an area where we get bombarded with products, training, food…. It hurts right!!! 😖

Dog training - we’ve all seen the flashy videos of dogs who were lunging, pulling, shouting, and in the next snippet, dog is miraculously “cured”! Just one session! I mean, s**t, I must be doing something wrong not getting clients to solve their problems in one session! 😳 Wouldn’t it be lovely!!

But ask yourself the question “how did they do that? How have I been working on this for so long and they’ve done it in one….” By using techniques which don’t align with ANY good practices. A lead pop, flooding their emotional system, scaring/intimidating the dog, not looking at the dog as a whole (diet, pain, lifestyle….) - which yes it works, but to who’s success? Not the dog, only for human gain 😓

This is why, any good trainer/behaviourist WONT do before and after in one sitting. They won’t show videos of dogs losing their minds just to “correct them”. They won’t show videos of people marching around other dogs to “prove” they’ve supported dogs (because this is not training).

Dog training ISN’T just solving one issue. Dog training should be taken as an holistic approach. Asking questions such as;

- what environment did the dog come from before you?
- what diet is your dog on?
- let’s see the dog move, let’s see if we can observe them to find out more?
- let’s see what the dog ACTUALLY wants to do, not what the human wants.
- lifestyle?
- equipment on the dog - is it causing discomfort? Does it actually allow the dog to move? Does the dog ACTUALLY like wearing it?
- how can we support our dogs emotional needs.

Those dogs we see being trained by the “magic trainer” - well I can guarantee there will be a fall out. And at the cost of the dog being to blame 😢

I’m not saying what I share isn’t to show you success. My “influencing” is to make you think “how can I support my dog in ways I may never have thought about”.

Take influencing with a pinch of salt 🧂 find out more about that trainer - what qualifications do they have and do they align with no forcing, lead popping and intimidation. Don’t just watch a videos which are before and afters - they never show you HOW! Let’s question that!!

I am transparent with my approach and my posts share the progress, and I’m transparent about my dogs - they are not perfect. They don’t walk brilliantly on a lead. They will chew the post coming through the door. They bark at a door knock. They aren’t always “well behaved”. They 💩 on the floor occasionally 🤦🏼‍♀️ 🤣. They have resource guarding issues over food. I have to manage situations. I’ll tell you stories about my dogs to make you feel better and that you’re not alone 🫶🏻

Still want to work with me even though my dogs aren’t perfect? 😅

☘️ Patrick ☘️

Is a street rescue who came over in between lock-downs, and he has livestock gaurdian genetics. He a sensitive soul and can feel unsafe in new environments. But the main reason weve been working together is Reactivity Support.

We've progressed through our engagement games, Free Work tobsee what he finds meaningful (snuffling 👃) and are now we're working out in oublic at a safe distance.

He did well, today was his second session at this location and he settled in faster. He was unsure of the noises and people but did really well, and was able to watch dogs walk past and re-enaged with us! He got a little overloaded at one point when an on-lead dog came towards us faster than we could maintain his happy distance but he recovered really well, had a reduced reaction, and was able to watch the next dog pass without any worries. He then lay down and took it all in.

Lovely to see him putting it all together. These journeys aren't linear but we can support through all the undulations. We'll done team this morning 😊

⭐Reset & connect. Expand & grow. Accessible for all⭐

A wonderful opportunity to expereince the magic Free Work. Co-hosted with the brilliant Matt from South West Dog Skills

Free Work is sensory exploration for dogs, but also so much more! The set ups allow them reset physically and emotionally, while building a strong connection between handler and dog and enaballing us to further support them on their journey through their lives.

It helps is build our observational skills of our companions, find what they find meaningful to learn with and utilise. It can be used to support dogs in every situation that may arise for them.

Come and experience the magic first hand, there's nothing like it.

🐶 Diego 🐶

This little man is working through my Reactivity Support Package. He finds the world a bit overwhelming and needs to shout about it, and dogs fall into this category.

We're working together to work with him as a whole dog, so building his overall confidence with the world, which in turn, supports his reactivity.

Today was his second Free Work session and my god did he make us both speechless! 🙌
Snuffling is his thing 👃 this session he didn't need to run to decompress, he was more independent from mum, he didn't need her to sit with him. BUT the BIG difference was the seemingly unphased reaction to banging, trailer noises and even dogs barking 😯🥳

He had the odd whoof, but wow was it dampened, not followed by escalation, and the ability to reset himself. Just amazing!!

All dogs are different, all dogs learn at different rates but by working with the personality in front of use we can work to support for success 🥳🥳

Little Kali came for her puppy sensory part of Puppy Package this evening 😊

This allows her to build calm confidence in the space before classes start next week. Show us what she finds useful for learning, and her finish cues for when she needs a rest.

Today snuffle was her preference, and of course being a puppy climbing 😁

She was wonderfully independent, knew where her guardians were and asked for support when needed. We worked on a slower clipping of lead with her supportive snuffle mat to ensure a calmer relationship with the equipment.

Well done Kali and guardians 😊😊

Yesterday afternoon I started my first Trick Training Course 😁

We had Dottie, Brecken, and Eric. Would you think Brecken and Eric are both reactive? Both boys managed really well, we completed individual reactivity support before getting to this point. But they were curious and enjoyed the work so didn't need to worry.

All 3 did really well and were thoroughly tired, Im looking forward to the next 3 weeks 😄

Laylah is finding the heat hard 😆

Today we took advantage of having to rearrange clients and did some free work to introduce a ramp for the van. As she's aging her back issues seem to be getting worse so getting in the van she's just becoming a little hesitant. If entry is uncomfortable it could lead to aversion of the van which I'm starting to see midly. So a we've been kindly lent a ramp for 2 weeks to see how she gets on.

Picking up for her multiple times a day isn't an option unless needed, as she doesn't enjoy it. The ramp provides choice and consent.

She was absolutely fine with it on the floor. And we had some nice moments of balance around the set up. Raising it is next.

She also took her favourite item out the van to use to decompress around some workers on Ben's site ☺️

Loose-lead walking graduation this morning before the heat arrived ☀️

They did brilliantly on their bitesize workshop not only on Loose-lead walking but also building confidence around each other. 2 out of the 3 reactive for different reasons but everyone comfortable and curious thanks to their prior work.

Eric 🌞

I cannot tell you how amazing this session on Friday morning was with Eric ☺️

From going from an adolescent rescue who mouthed and whirled out on walks and couldn't move through town due to too much conflict of people being close and over stimulation. To a dog who moved through town, had people walk past AND chose to move himself away instead of needing to ask for space. AND then to finish on RELAXING at a cafe with dogs, adults and kids around (with his first puppachino of course) is just amazing! 🥳🙌

Food has become less of a reward so we've worked with him on his choices to watch, sometimes that involves a sit (chosen by him not demanded by us), helped him to choose space by moving with him and offering exists, and of course the best reward of all, mummy cuddles 😊

Working with 'low drive' dogs is great. It makes us really tap into understanding their communication, what they need, how to offer it, understanding body language and the individual in front of us. It's easy to resort to certain techniques that would inflict discomfort to get these results, as food and toys aren't a motivator, but we can help them achieve all this through greater understanding and support.

His dedicated guardian has been amazing, and she's gradually built his exposure to more populated places, at a pace that works for him. Supported using touch reinforcement, time, and space for him to process what he needs to and now she can walk through town. Just incredible work from these two ☺️

Next goal heading inside the cafe and further support on dog interactions (he's already doing so well), the progress in him in a handle of months is wonderful. So honoured to be a pet of their journey 😊

Wow what a Tuesday 😁

A regular on recall, settle snd scent work. Then these wonderful Loose-lead walkers started (Luna, Nellie, and Zeus). Everyone did amazingly, fluid moments all round amd no Reactivity from either Luna or Zeus. Luna was able to relax in the presence of novel dogs and even get hop skippy, and Zeus was curious and wanted to watch. Just brilliant!

Then a regular session with Cooper using Free Work to help him connect and settle in novel environments. He's coming along nicely.

After Cooper was Betty, what a difference a week makes. More calm, more focused, and this week we built on recall engagement and solidified loose-lead walking skills.

And finally was Woody and Lenny to support on multi-dog household play dynamics and Lenny's reactivity.

Great work all round by everyone. Shame I only got this picture 🙈

🍂 Hazel 🍂
This morning was a wonderful session with Hazela nd mum.

Hazel gets overwhelmed with both frustration and bit of anxiety over the sight and meeting of other dogs. She's come a long way and is much more regulated. So today we braved a public walk.

She was able to watch most dogs, use a travel Snuffle mat (taken out of my hand of she needed it and I was too slow to offer 😆) and even lick out and about! She had one worry about a surprise husky but recovered really well.

So pleased, and looking forward to our next session 😀
