On Tuesday we hosted Wincanton Young Farmers for a farm walk and quiz . Martha was the quiz master as they answered lots of questions about milking robots, breeds and being a vet. The winning team won some very stylish Friars Moor Sunglasess and some chocolates. A big thank you to Wincanton Young Farmers Club for being such a great group of enthusiastic young farmers with some great questions. ☀️

One of our vet techs will come to you at an arranged time on Friday 14th. You will be charged for the tech time spent on farm and for the number of doses used. If there are doses left in the bottle at the end of the round, the cost of this will be split between everyone.

Please note, cattle need a second dose in 3 weeks (sheep only need 1 dose). If we have enough cattle on the round we will arrange a date for the second dose.

🐑It's lambing time and there are two new products to tell you about.

🐑RE-EWE-VENATE for support in the treatment of Twin Lamb Disease contains 70 g glycerol and 20 g of propylene glycol per 100 ml. Studies proved that it raised blood-glucose from 1.79 to 3.26 mmol/l within 12 hours & maintained blood-glucose concentration above 2.8 mmol/l for a further three-and-a-half days.

🐑NOBACZ NAVEL which offers a physical protective coating on the navel combined with cleansing and rapid desiccation (trialled in the largest ever navel protection study where it was shown to be superior to iodine with 17 more lambs surviving per 1000).

Speak to your vet for further information.

A Nationwide Bluetongue vaccine campaign is launching next week!

We are holding a Bluetongue Coffee morning at West Stour on Monday 3rd March 11am to 2pm. This will be a drop in question and answer session for any Bluetongue queries or concerns that you may have.

Come and have a cuppa whilst taking the opportunity to speak to one of our vets about the risks, prevention and testing.

This is open to all clients and non clients with no need to reserve a place.

IMPORTANT BLUETONGUE (BTV) UPDATE

BTV-3 has been identified in ruminants in our area. Therefore, the Restricted Zone (RZ) has been extended to include Dorset, additional areas of Wiltshire, part of Somerset and part of East Devon that can be seen here:

https://defra.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=514ec88edec74575958d860f0196d2ea

This means it will affect a large number of our clients planning to move animals. Premises that have any land within the restricted zone or straddle the boundary are classified as being within the RZ.

Animals in the Restricted Zone can only be moved where it’s absolutely necessary and will need either a ‘General licence’ (e.g. moving to slaughter) or ‘specific’ license’ (e.g another premises or market, after confirmed negative pre-movement testing). Salisbury market is now within the RZ, Sedgemoor and Frome are currently outside the RZ.

Once the licence application has been made, and if testing is required; you will need to contact UKFarmcare to be allocated free testing by our team in high risk counties. Samples can be taken up to 21 days in advance of the movement. The application process takes approximately 10 working days, using the link:
