Hello, and Happy 1st of February from lovely Lily the moon bear dog and Animals Asia North East UK support group.
Today's volunteer Big Bear beach clean Whitburn/Seaburn was a chilly one, but the wonderful volunteers who attended really got stuck in to clear as much rubbish and fishing line as possible, 4 bags of plastics, fabrics and other debris and a bag of fishing line...thank you all.
It's always uplifting to have young people join us, to help spread the word and learn from a young age the important of protecting our environment and it's wildlife.
If you're a school teacher locally please drop me (Vijay), an email on [email protected]

With spring coming up, it would be great to get more youngsters involved in protecting our coastline. I'd like to have a chat to see how we can get your learners involved.

Or next community clean is coming Sunday 9th February at Roker, 10am.

Send us some of that Spring energy Sassy Bear and friends!😀🥰

Went down to Roker after work to grab any nasties before dark set in. Removed loads of fishing line, hooks, ropes, plastics and pieces of cloth.
Was so engrossed in watching the birds dodging the waves I ended up cleaning in ankle deep water.🙈 tomorrow I have a Animals Asia North East UK support group volunteer Big Bear beach clean at 10.30am and we will do Whitburn and Seaburn beach. The meeting point is below Latimers, and next to the angling club. Kit is provided.

Wishing all our bears and team at CBRC and all who are celebrating a very Happy Lunar new year 😀

Thank you so much to the awesome volunteers who joined my Big bear beach clean at Littlehaven, South Shields this morning. Despite the cold, everyone enthusiastically got busy and we cleared a total of 8 bags of marine litter. There was a lot of fishing line, fishing litter, hooks, cans, and plastics...all the nasty culprits which endanger marine birds and animals.
There were a large number of crows picking away at debris. :-(
A shout out to our youngest volunteer Alexander, of Whitburn for his eagle eye and enthusiasm.
Our next Animals Asia North East UK support group community beach clean is at Whitburn/Seaburn on Saturday 1st February, 10.30am. Kit is provided, and we will meet on the beach below Latimers.

Hi all, hope you're having a good Saturday.
This week, I joined a Zoom call with Animals Asia's global head of PR and a few international/national Animals Asia support group members. The topic of discussion was the
Impact of misinformation and sensationalism in animal protection. I would like to share some info I would like you to please read, and apologies if you are already aware of all this.

We may have all at one time or another fallen into the trap of believing or sharing something because as passionate animal lovers we have had a strong emotional reaction to what we saw. We are human and want to help. We can't bear to see animals suffering.

With the amount of time people spend on social media and with the growing use of artificial interlligent, it is vital that one needs to be more vigilant on what we share and how we react to information shared online.

More and more social media creators are faking animal rescues, or staging fake rescues in order to get more hits, make money or even ask for donations. This takes away from organisations that are genuinely advocating for animal welfare.

How to take action and avoid having your passion exploited:
* Improve your media literacy (a few links at the bottom to check out, and there are courses online)
* Know the difference
* Question extreme cruelty claims before sharing
* Question / push back on false information you encounter

Light was fading as fast as the tide coming in this evening after work, but with help from a decent torch, managed to remove a bag of nasty fishing line and hooks plus two bags of other marine debris off Roker.
If you live near the coast and spot these nasties on the beach usually caught in kelp...please remove it. It could help protect danger to wildlife.
Thank you ❤️

It is a real shame to see this happen on the very beach we cleaned just this Sunday past....and highlights the reason why beach cleans are important and why Anglers need to take more responsibility for their actions! Thankful that Pawz for Thought were able to save this poor bird 🙏🏾

Thank you to all the amazing 17 volunteers who attended my Animals Asia North East UK support group Big Bear volunteer beach clean at Roker this morning.
Everyone, including children and Jasper the dog, really got stuck in with brilliant enthusiasm and made a tremendous effort in clearing 30 heavy bags of rubbish off the beach. Thanks to The Good Estate Agent - Sunderland family for joining us.
There was a shocking amount of plastics, a lobster pot, clothing remains, a tent, tarp and a full bag of fishing line collected. Thanks to our council for taking the bags away, and for adding the fishing line to the collection which gets recycled by Anglers National Line Recycling Scheme
All this nasty rubbish is detrimental to marine wildlife and our environment so I am grateful to everyone who helps by getting involved. Please check my Events link for further cleans coming up.
Thanks to some kind members of public who stopped to say Hello and enquire about how to get involved.
Big bear hugs
Vijay 🐻
