Adders are the only snakes in the UK and are most seen from Spring to Summer in open habitats such as sand dunes, heathland, moorland and woodland.
π Although Adder snakes are not aggressive, they will strike when agitated or startled, and their venom is toxic to animals.
πΆ The severity of the bite will vary depending on the size of dog, the location of the bite, the amount of venom the adder has injected and potency, and the length of time and amount of movement afterwards.
βΌοΈNot every strike injects venom, but even dry bites can cause pain, swelling, and infection. It is not possible to know whether your dog has received a venomous or dry bite, so your dog should be checked by a vet regardless.
Even in severe cases, there is a high survival rate if treatment is started promptly which will likely include treatment for shock, pain relief and in some cases, antivenom, which is an intravenous solution that binds itself to the venom, so that it becomes inactive.
If left untreated and in severe cases, clinical signs can progress to muscle tremors, collapse, coagulopathy (blood clotting problems), and organ failure.
How cute are these two! π₯°π₯°###

Walking your dog off lead.
This is a useful piece of information and advice on how to successfully achieve this.
Please have confidence in your dogs, as dogs love their freedom. But, please ensure you have worked on developing that special bond first and do it safely.
I have always worked on recall at home from the first day my pup comes home. Call them often, make a good fuss of them when they come and give them a treat. Be confident! Your dog will feed from your confidence and will come back to you, if you put the work in early and build up that bond. It pays huge dividends of love, fun and loyalty! ###

Calling all owners with puppies under 6 months!
Iβve noticed that a lot of people are worried about letting their dogs off the lead or longline when theyβre young because theyβre worried about the pups running off and getting lost.
This is exactly the age when you should be confidently letting your dogs off the lead!
Up to 6 months puppies are very dependent on you and will naturally want to stay close by. This is the time when you can build up your off lead bond with your dog, have lots of fun training doing little puppy retrieves or hunting, fun obedience using games and toys, really get all those basics in!
Reliance on longlines without working on your bond with the dog could lead to the result you really didnβt want! Dogs might be good as gold whilst on the longline then tear off into the distance the minute you take it off!
Once you hit the independent teenage phase you will need to work even harder if that initial outdoor bond isnβt there.
Hereβs something to try to see where you are with your outside bond. Take your dog to a field, just sit down on the grass and take your puppy off the lead. What does he do? Give it a go! You might be surprised β¦.
Please ensure you are in a safe environment before you remove the lead.
UPDATE:
HAPPILY, THE OWNER HAS BEEN FOUND!
Hi, does anyone recognise this dog, by any chance?
My friend's son found it wandering near The Colonel Pryor, near Morrisons at Doxford Park. It is nervous, but he said it's a really lovely dog.
He has taken it home with him and is asking as as many people as possible to share on social media. He follows my page, so will see any responses.
Please help, if you can ...
Thank you so much! ###
