Benji’s blog - Episode 1 🐾 🐶

Hello! Woof! 👋

I’m Benji the Border Collie, and now my human brothers have gone back to school I have a little more time on my paws, so I thought I’d introduce to you Benji’s blog, a monthly instalment on the life of me, Benji!

A little bit about me first 🐶 I will be 11 years young in January, and I still like to think I’m a pup, although sometimes my joints like to tell me otherwise. It’s okay, though, because my humans give me an injection every month, which helps me feel more puppy-like again. I also have epilepsy, and because of this, I take a tablet in the morning and at night. In all honesty, I really don’t mind this at all as my humans hide it in a cocktail sausage… my favourite yum-yum! They think I don’t notice, but I know 😉. In fact, sometimes I manage to nibble the tablet out, and they have to try again - then I get two sausages 🐶… well, they do say that border collies are clever, after all!

I hope you are all enjoying this late summer weather. I know I certainly am. I must admit I love nothing more than to wander through my dog flap and relax in the peace and quiet on the grass in the garden, especially when my little human brothers are making too much noise! My big humans try to tell me that I need to make sure I lay in cool places like the kitchen tiles so I don’t overheat and become poorly! Apparently, this can happen very quickly on these warm sunny days ☀️. My walks are in the cooler evenings and are slower paced, so the exercise doesn’t make me too hot. While I miss sprinting as fast as I can after those imaginary squirrels, I get to go swimming in the river instead, which I just love!💦

I do hope you and your furry friends are managing to keep cool this week. Let’s enjoy this last week of summer and get ready to bring on Autumn 🍂

Love Benji 🐾🐶 xx

Today we made the most of the lovely breezy summer’s day and took our old boy Benji for a walk exploring the Rhossili sunflower and wildflower fields 🌸. What a beautiful place to be! 🌻☀️

Benji is 10 years old now, and despite still being an energetic collie, he has started showing little signs that he can’t quite move as well as he could when he was a bit younger. Thanks to a good quality diet, which helps him to keep to a healthy weight as well as supporting his joints, alongside some medication to help with his osteoarthritis, he thankfully maintains a good quality of life as he enters his older years 🥲💕

I had a lovely time this week visiting the year 3’s in Catwg Primary School, hoping to inspire the next generation of vets, vet nurses and animal lovers 💕🐶

My trainees did an excellent job at identifying the species of animals in the x-rays, and practiced their bandaging skills on their teddy’s! 🐾🥰
