Warning: UK emergency alert.
For anyone in the UK, please be aware that on Sunday 23rd April 2023 at 3pm, the UK government is sending a loud test emergency alert to all mobile phones on 4 or 5G.
💥 The high pitched alert will last for 10 seconds.
💥 The alert will sound even if your phone is on silent.
💥 If you switch your phone off, the alert will sound immediately when you switch your phone back on.
If you live with dog(s) who are fearful or sensitive to loud noises please take action to avoid causing them distress.
✅ Turn off emergency alerts on your phone.
✅ If you aren’t able to switch off emergency alerts, please consider putting your phone outside, or in your car, garage, shed etc. as far away from your dog as possible.
✅Consider playing some music to distract / drown out the alerts from any close neighbour’s phones.
✅ Try to be at home or, if outdoors, aim to be in a very remote place if possible. If you are in a busy public place, there will almost certainly be multiple emergency alerts going off which might cause distress to your dog(s).
✅ If your dog is off lead in a park, you might want to keep them on lead while the siren goes off, incase they bolt.
Even if your dog hasn’t previously shown signs of being sensitive to noises, this new ten second high pitched alert could still cause them distress.
To turn off emergency alerts, on our android phone we selected settings > sounds & vibrations > more settings > cell broadcasts > you will then see the option to deselect Emergency alerts.
Women’s Aid have a useful guide in the link below how to turn off emergency alerts on both android phones and iPhones.
