June is National Microchipping Month and the aim is to raise awareness of the importance of keeping the details attached to your dog’s microchip correct and up to date.

Since April 2016, it has been a legal requirement to microchip your dog and record keeper details with a government-compliant database.

This helps improve the chances of your dog being returned to you if they ever go missing and are found/handed into a vet, local authority warden or welfare organisation.

Microchipping is a more permanent way of identifying your dog than using a collar or name tag, as these can often come loose and fall off.

When getting your dog microchipped, ensure that it’s performed by a vet or trained microchip implanter, as these are the only people allowed to carry out this procedure. As a dog owner, not only is it a legal requirement for your dog to be microchipped, it’s also a requirement to make sure that the details held against the chip are correct at all times. Having up-to-date and correct information linked to your dog’s microchip ensures that you will be able to be reached and kept informed if your dog goes missing.

Feels like this month has absolutely flown by, can’t believe we’re already heading into June. We’ve been so lucky with the weather this month (although maybe not so much this morning😂) - it’s certainly made for a good round up of photos & videos summarising May at Woody’s Walks🥰❤️.

Whilst it’s great to see the sun shining, we are here to remind you that TWENTY IS PLENTY when it comes to exercising dogs this summer ☀️💧 Temperatures as mild as 21 degrees can be problematic for our pooches so please keep them safe and read our advice here 👉 https://bit.ly/3bNTnzY

Warning: UK emergency alert.

For anyone in the UK, please be aware that on Sunday 23rd April 2023 at 3pm, the UK government is sending a loud test emergency alert to all mobile phones on 4 or 5G.

💥 The high pitched alert will last for 10 seconds.
💥 The alert will sound even if your phone is on silent.
💥 If you switch your phone off, the alert will sound immediately when you switch your phone back on.

If you live with dog(s) who are fearful or sensitive to loud noises please take action to avoid causing them distress.

✅ Turn off emergency alerts on your phone.
✅ If you aren’t able to switch off emergency alerts, please consider putting your phone outside, or in your car, garage, shed etc. as far away from your dog as possible.
✅Consider playing some music to distract / drown out the alerts from any close neighbour’s phones.
✅ Try to be at home or, if outdoors, aim to be in a very remote place if possible. If you are in a busy public place, there will almost certainly be multiple emergency alerts going off which might cause distress to your dog(s).
✅ If your dog is off lead in a park, you might want to keep them on lead while the siren goes off, incase they bolt.

Even if your dog hasn’t previously shown signs of being sensitive to noises, this new ten second high pitched alert could still cause them distress.

To turn off emergency alerts, on our android phone we selected settings > sounds & vibrations > more settings > cell broadcasts > you will then see the option to deselect Emergency alerts.

Women’s Aid have a useful guide in the link below how to turn off emergency alerts on both android phones and iPhones.

https://www.womensaid.org.uk/uk-emergency-alerts/

Thank you and please share. 🙏🏼

Photo description: A brown dog is curled up in a soft, grey dog bed looking alert and concerned.
The wording states ‘UK EMERGENCY ALERT PHONE SIREN SUNDAY 23RD APRIL 2023 at 3pm’ and ‘ Please keep your dogs safe.’

Paul O’Grady will be laid to rest in the most beautiful way today ❤️ The streets of his hometown will be lined with people and their dogs as the presenter’s coffin is carried to the church. Rescue dogs from his beloved Battersea will then form a guard of honour during a private service - to the backdrop of music from the Salvation Army Band. A separate memorial service will also be held at a wildlife park - so he can be surrounded by the animals he adored for a celebration of his life. A wonderful send-off for a wonderful person. RIP Paul ❤️✨

I like to think that the dogs of rainbow bridge, will be lining up to greet the wonderful Paul O’Grady today. Waiting to welcome a beautiful man who did so much good for their kind. I like to think he will be rolling around with dogs he lost, dogs he saved and dogs who simply heard of his kindness. Covered in fluff, smothered in kisses and loved, loved loved.

Thank you for making us laugh till we cried and for making a true difference this side.
You will be missed, never forgotten and always loved.

Rest in peace wonderful man.

With snow and ice expected in many areas of the UK over the next few days, let's make sure we're keeping our dogs safe. 🌨️❄️

Share this post to reach more owners. 💛 More tips: https://bit.ly/3EM0pzx

Image description: The text lists ways to keep your dog safe this winter. Ensure your dog is visible in the dark with a flashing collar or high-vis jacket. Make sure it's safe before you let your dog off lead. Make sure your dog is microchipped and has up to date details. Keep anti-freeze out of reach and mop up any spillages. Provide indoor activities if it's not possible to go out safely. Wipe your dogs paws, legs and tummy after a walk.

This month certainly feels like it’s passed in the blink of an eye . Another busy month packed full of walkies & drop in visits! Im absolutely thrilled to share that we also welcomed a new fur buddy to our walking team at the start of the month taking us to a full team again - Say Hello to Willow😍💕 we’ve loved having her onboard these last few weeks! “How lucky am I to have something so special that makes saying goodbye so hard”💔🐾…

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that one of our beloved members, little Daisey has passed over the rainbow bridge earlier this week. 🌈🐾💔.

I feel truly lucky to have been able to have known Daisey since she was a pup & was very fortunate enough to have her as one of the very first members of Woody’s Walks, I will be forever grateful for the endless amount of support I had from her owners along the way building up Woody’s Walks to where it is today❤️. She will forever hold a special place in my heart & I know she’s looking out for us all with Woody up there. Little Daisey you’ve left a paw print on my heart & I’ll treasure you forever.

Rest in Peace our little Queen, Daisey🌈🐾💔.

You know that your dog isn’t doing it to get back at you, and that he really can’t help hating being left, right? ✅

But sometimes dogs with issues do test us.😩 And that’s why in this latest episode of the Be Right Back! Podcast, I dive into why it can help us to remember that it’s not our dog’s fault. ❤️

They aren’t being spiteful or trying to manipulate us.

They are not difficult dogs. Just dogs having a difficult time. 🐾

Help my dog hates being groomed!

Ever wondered why some dogs dislike being groomed? Do you know what’s expected of a dog at their appointment?

The dog grooming industry grows bigger every day, as do the number of breeds requiring professional help. It’s our job as animal lovers to make the experience a good one both physically and emotionally.

Join Daniella from Woody’s Holistic Grooming and Cooperative Care as she talks through the science of dog grooming, and shares tips on how you can set your dog up for success both at home and in the salon.

This workshop is suitable for both canine professionals (trainers, vets, groomers etc) and guardians.

Daniella is a fully certified Holistic Groomer, meaning she looks at the whole picture for your dog and can provide the best advice and guidance when it comes to tackling grooming issues.

Cold weather tips!

Brr it’s a cold one this week. Here are some tips when it comes to caring for your dogs skin and coat in icy conditions…

Always wipe and rinse your dogs paws thoroughly after a walk to remove any salt grit. If they’re not particularly comfortable with you handling their paws at the moment, try to encourage them to step in a shallow tray of warm water

If your dog is wearing a jacket when on walks, always make sure you are brushing their fur afterwards to prevent matts developing. The friction of harnesses, jackets, collars etc is one of the biggest contributory factors when it comes to matts!

Make sure you are drying your dog if they become wet (after brushing!), this can be done using a hairdryer on a warm setting (not hot) if they are happy for you to do so or you can use a combination of microfibre or high absorbency towels

In the event of snow, you can remove snow balls from the coat using a damp towel with warm water and a gentle brush. A good conditioning spray will also help to prevent snow from building up on the fur.

Panagenic do a fantastic leave in conditioner which you can use daily that prevents snow sticking to fur

As always, a dogs coat is fantastic at thermoregulation but only when it is properly cared for. Regular brushing to remove dead undercoat, prevent matts and keep the air circulating!

That’s a wrap for 2022.. dog leads are officially hung up and my wellies are put away till next year! This month has certainly been a chilly one especially with a week of snow but like always we’ve had the best time regardless of the weather- there’s been plenty of new scents for the dogs to sniff & lots of opportunities to show off all our winter coats/Christmas outfits.. and a perfect excuse for a dog cuddle or two🥰!! Santa paw’s definitely deserves to pay a visit to all my four legged friends this Christmas for being so good!

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!🎅 Thank you to everyone who has been apart of Woodys Walks 2022 & we look forward to welcoming back old & new faces in 2023❤️
