Amie's Horse Clipping and Grooming Services

Amie's Horse Clipping and Grooming Services I am a freelance groom offering a mobile Horse Clipping Service for my local area. Over 10 years exp I still work there from time to time.

My name is Amie, I own 3 horses and have had horses since a young age. I began clipping whilst working at Skibo Castle Stables and haven't looked back since! The horses and ponies there have to look tidy at all times so I always work to the same high standards. I love to see the 'finished' product. Trimming and clipping a horse to look good gives me great pride. I offer clipping, mane and tail pul

ling, trimming/clipping of feathers, mane hogging, plaiting, Stencilbum stencils and any other general tidy ups! I use all cordless, medium to heavy duty clippers, so no wires trailing! Plus a small set of battery clippers (for heads of nervous horses and doing LIGHT feathers)

I travel to you so my prices reflect all my expenses including fuel, vehical wear and tear, blade sharpening, insurance etc
Outwith my normal working area (20miles) a charge of 50p per mile is charged. Please feel free to contact me for prices ๏ฟฝ

Just a story I heard.

BRUSH out your horseโ€™s Fairy Reins. Donโ€™t ever cut them out.

As the story goes, when a child dies, it makes all the angels in Heaven cry, and their tears make it too hard to see, to bring that child to Heaven.

So the fairies rush to help. But the fairies are so small, that they canโ€™t make it all the way to Heaven on their own.

So they braid a rein into a horseโ€™s mane and borrow the horse in the dark of night to get the child up to Heaven.

When you cut out a Fairy Rein, or roach a horseโ€™s mane, they canโ€™t borrow your horse.

I use this every single time I groom my horses, it keeps their coats glossy and clean enough for me to clip without having to bathe first as it's not always easy with our weather!

TURNING WARMER END OF THE WEEK

Windy says from THURSDAY we start to see a SOUTH WESTERLY flow kicking in bringing with it some much needed WARMTH

Thursday Friday sees the very best of any WARMTH and brightness up in the NE corner . . . The NORTH EAST RIVIERA is the place to be !!

I'm thinking the "Aberdeenshire area" will see highs of 20 degrees plus

Monday reminder โ‰๏ธ

Even if clipping for the second or third time your horse should still be washed before clipping ๐Ÿงผ

When your horses coat is growing back, it initially comes back as cat hairs even though the coat isnโ€™t as heavy all over as when you do your initial clip the hair comes back much coarser so equally as challenging on your clippers and blades even if not as dense.

Wash your horse 24 hours prior to clipping - Even if you only have cold water on your yard, wash after exercise, rug and stable the horse for 24 hours till completely dry

Washing your horse in cold water causes mild discomfort for a few minutes, clipping an unwashed horse can cause pulling, tugging and potentially pinching the skin along side blunting your blades

*in cases where there is no access to water a good groom taking upwards of an hour can be done

CPL - Chronic Progressive Lymphoedema

What is it? โ‰๏ธ

CPL is a disease of the lymphatic system that affects horses with feather- draught or cob types ๏ฟผ

It is thought to be genetic and triggered by environmental factors and the animal
Husbandry the horse receives can cause flare ups.

A failing of the lymphatics in the lower legs causes lump fluid to become trapped where as in a horse that does not suffer from CPL it would drain through the lymph nodes. Lymph carries waste and toxins and if it builds up in the legs it causes inflammation. The bodies response to inflammation is a process called fibrosis which is laying down scar tissue. This is how the signature folds and skin nodules develop.

This time of the year can be difficult for owners of horses suffering with CPL due to ground conditions and increased stabling.

Another Full clip with blended legs for Roy this morning โœ‚๏ธ He was last done on 1st Oct and was super fluffy again already! A lovely clean coat again today which makes me happy ๐Ÿ˜Š Makes my job much easier and less strain and stress on my equipment. Also gives the coat a beautiful finish ๐Ÿ‘Œ
Please always either bath a day or 2 before clip if possible or you can hot cloth or give a thorough groom (the kind that takes an hour and is like a workout in the gym!)
Grease, dust and dirt means my blades will blunt quicker, the may snag and pull on hair causing discomfort to your horse and will also leave an awful finish which I never like to do!

Why should your horse be as clean as possible for clipping? ๐Ÿคจ

โ€ข To prevent dirt, grease, mud, grit etc blunting blades super quickly, causing them to snag and pull on your horseโ€™s hair.

โ€ข To look after your clipper motors - dirty hair and blunt blade will put excess strain on the motor, which will cause damage, and an expensive repair bill.

โ€ข To make is as comfortable an experience as possible for the horse - hair snagging HURTS.

โ€ข To get the smoothest, most flawless, perfect clip possible.
Dirt = lines and patches. Clippers are perfectionists, it upsets us to leave you with a sub-standard clip.

โ€ข To avoid a โ€˜dirty horseโ€™ surcharge from your professional clipper.
We hate clipping the horse like this, we hate what it does to our equipment, we hate charging more money.

To rug or not to rug? ๐Ÿง

๐ŸŒŸIt is important to judge case by case and use common sense there is no set rule that will work for every horse๐ŸŒŸ

Over rugging is a welfare issue and itโ€™s important to be conscious of the ever changing weather conditions. Heavy rain, wind, frost, sun all pose different problems and can require different rugs. โ›ˆ๐ŸŒจโ˜€๏ธ

Downloading a weather app and watching the forcast can help you gauge what weight rug is required.

In cases where a horse is clipped and turned out keeping them warm is a priority- choosing a partial clip or a hunter clip can leave them warmer and more protected from the elements.

Have you pulled out your rugs yet? โฌ‡๏ธ
