Ordinarily I visit cats in their homes but today I had donkeys visit me!

A couple of donkeys were on the loose down our lane and we kept them safe in our garden whilst the police found their owners.

Slightly larger than the animals I usually care for but just as lovely ❤️🫏🫏❤️

Here's the update that we, and our hens, have all been waiting for! 🙌 Poultry and other captive birds in England and Wales can be let outside from 00:01 on the 18th of April 2023, unless you are in a 3km protection or captive bird (monitoring) controlled zone.

Those who intend to allow their birds outside are advised to use the upcoming days to prepare their outside areas for the release of their birds. This will include cleansing and disinfecting hard surfaces, fencing off ponds or standing water and reintroduction of wild bird deterrents.

For further information please see APHA's latest press release:

Reactions on opening our curtains this morning couldn’t have been more different! Me: ‘argh snow 😱 I have cats and chickens to visit!!!’. Toddler: ‘yippee, let’s build a snowman!!!!’

I have my trusty foot spikes and grit in the car for just such occasions and am prepared to visit the pets in my care by foot if necessary!

Thankfully the roads were fine today, so the cats and chickens were visited and fun was had ❄️⛄️❄️

This would have been a game changer when my old cat Kipper was still alive and on one of his hunting sprees 😂

No need these days as Honey and Poppy choose to be indoor cats for 9 months of the year!

***MORE CLOVER INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL ADOPTERS BELOW***

Can anyone offer a forever home to the sweetest cat called Clover?

This brave little girl is not much more than a year old, she was found as a stray with a litter of 3 kittens in a stable in Kelsall. It quickly became apparent during her recovery from being spayed that Clover was not at all feral and would in fact make a wonderful pet.

Clover has been living in my home office for the last 10 days whilst waiting for a shelter space. I did wonder how wise it was to take her in but she has been as good as gold, settling in straight away. If I didn’t fear for her safety around one of my cats, I would jump at the chance of keeping her.

We had hoped the RSPCA would be able to take her in but we’ve found out today that they don’t have room for her. An option is to release her back to being a stray but that feels so wrong knowing how settled she has been in my home.

If anyone is considering getting a young cat, please consider Clover. She is a gentle, friendly and clean girl. I have not seen a hint of aggression in her, even when she has been very scared. She has shown signs of playfulness and I think would quickly become the most affectionate and loving pet given the opportunity.

I have added some photos to show Clover in our home. Please message me if you can help or for more info.

Thank you for reading. Emma x

CLOVER UPDATE: she is back with her original foster mum/rescuer and I have more information to share. She is living in their home office and settled happily.

Clover was a stray for a good 8 months. It is suspected she had a home but her owners moved on leaving her behind when she was very young. For this reason, the RSPCA suggest she will need to be kept securely indoors for months (possibly until Spring 2023), so that she learns to live indoors and doesn’t revert to outdoor life.

Clover has purred when being stroked and really likes the attention but she is not a fan of cuddles or being picked up.

She has had interaction with dogs and has seemed relaxed, simply ignoring them from a distance.

We think Clover will be happy living with other friendly cats. She shows interest in cats and was a stray in a heavily cat populated area.

It’s been a busy week here at Kelsall Pet Care!

Clover the absolutely beautiful and newly spayed stray cat is staying temporarily.

Summer holiday season is here and I’m loving catching up with all my old cat friends❤️😻❤️

It’s been a busy chicken week too. My ex commercial girls are blossoming and I’ve also enjoyed time with some sweet little silkies and bantams🐔🐓🐔

Oh and Holly, Badger and I did a spot of cow herding when one decided to join us for a walk instead of heading to the milking shed🐄🐾

It’s day 10 since we adopted 6 ex-commercial hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust www.bhwt.org.uk

They had never experienced outdoor life when they arrived but it hasn’t taken them long to get to grips with eating pellet food, laying eggs in their nest box and going into their house at dusk.

They got to enjoy their field for the first time today having acclimatised to free range life in a smaller space.

It’s a joy to see how happy they are already. Looking forward to seeing them fluff up in the coming weeks❤️🐓❤️

What a difference a year makes!!!

This Easter holiday could not have been more different to last year when we were in lockdown, I had no cats to visit and our house was a building site.

This year has been filled with cats, family and friends, plus a nice home to return to 😻🐣🥳🏡
