Why we are not a dog park !!
At Happy Hounds we prefer to see ourselves as an enrichment park.
Traditionally dog parks are generally Off-lead areas which offer a community space where people can socialise and Watch their dogs at play.
Notoriously, dog parks can be filled with risk of physical injury, illness, contribution to both frustration- and fear-based dog reactivity, loss of faith in handler, and more.
Thatโs not to say all dog parks are unsuitable but Many professional trainers don't recommend the use of traditional dog parks that allow free play without any form of Guidance or structure.
In the UK - โdog parksโ are more typically known as secure private hire fields, where you can find various types of enrichment activities and amenities designed to keep dogs mentally and physically stimulated.
These features aim to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs to play, and expend energy.
Enrichment items may include:
1. Agility Equipment: ramps, tunnels, hurdles, and other obstacles for dogs to navigate, promoting physical exercise and mental stimulation.
2. Fetch Areas: Open spaces or fenced-off areas where dogs can play fetch with their owners or other dogs.
3. Water Features: Ponds, shallow pools, or fountains where dogs can cool off and splash around on hot days.
4. Dog Toys: Some dog parks may provide a selection of toys such as balls, frisbees, or rope toys for dogs to play with.
5. Socialisation and Training Time Slots : organised opportunities often led by a dog professional to help owners socialise and train their dogs, promoting positive interactions with others and reinforcing behaviour modification and development
6. Resting and Shaded Areas: Shelters or shaded spots to protect dogs and their owners from the sun or light rain with Benches or seating areas for dog owners to relax while supervising their pets.
7. Dog Waste Stations: Dispensers with waste bags and rubbish bins for responsible waste disposal
8. Natural
