Just another reminder about not giving your pups or adult dogs balls/kongs etc. that are too small. Always go large!! Incidents like these are rare but do happen with such tragic consequences and such a loss at just 3 years old.

Caution // heavy 🚩

As many of you know, on Sunday night We lost the wonderful Foster in what can only be described as a tragic and horrifically freak accident.

With the permission of his owners, I am writing this post for you to learn, share and tag others to raise awareness about the dangers of things that seem so simple.

Whilst at home with his owners, Foster choked on one of his toy balls. His owners, their neighbours and the vets did everything they could but heartbreakingly he couldn’t be saved.

‼️ Following this event, I am trying to raise awareness about the below:

• Do not leave your dogs unattended with tennis balls/sport sized balls when you are not home

• If possible remove ALL rubber-only balls - when wet with saliva you cannot get any grip. This makes them dangerously slippy when in a dogs mouth

• Have your vets day to day AND out of hours/emergency contact number saved in your phone with the address you need to go to or any other details you may need

• Refresh yourself on the basics in dog first aid training

• Replace all tennis ball sized balls with bigger sizes/frisbees or larger rugby ball shaped balls

Following this incident, Walking Pawz has introduced Fosters Rule; under no circumstances will tennis balls be used whilst dogs are in the care of Walking Pawz, nor will Pawz allow dogs to be left with any balls when they are dropped at home after being in our care.

I hope that all existing clients and any potential clients can appreciate us calling this decision. ❤️

Fosters accident has rippled through the Pawz community, I hope by sharing this post we can help prevent such tragedy happening to someone else.

My heart aches writing this.

Please read and share far & wide. These beautiful little boys are the identical twins of the owner's of one of my first boarding dogs way back when I first started the business and deserve every chance in life.

We believe the Government is reneging on commitments in the Environment Act to stop the decline of wildlife by proposing to develop two mega-prisons on the site of the old Wethersfield airfield, which has become an important space for nature near Braintree, Essex.

There are always some pretty grim treats for sale but this time of year it really is a perfect excuse to off load the biggest load of toxic tat for our dogs to "enjoy" 🤢 as a treat.
Many of these so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas 😥

The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China...

The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde.

If that wasn`t bad enough they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog 😞

Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later 😉 then dispatch in the bin!

For anyone interested in getting their dog titre tested to check immunity rather than vaccinating unnecessarily, there is a clinic being held in Halstead in June (date TBC). Please contact Canine Healing Clinic directly to register your interest.

Leading veterinary and welfare bodies are concerned by the alarming rise in ear-cropped dogs in the UK. Ear cropping is illegal in the UK and an unnecessary, painful mutilation with no welfare benefit. The practice involves cutting off part of the ear flap, often without anaesthesia or pain relief.
