‼️🔥🌡HEAT WARNING ‼️🔥🌡
We are expecting extremely high temperatures this weekend and into next week. The Met office has issued an amber warning for heat, with highs of 38/39 degrees expected on Monday and Tuesday.
Just a reminder that heat can be very dangerous for animals. We do not recommend walking your dogs in such high temperatures. Dogs will not die from missing 1 walk, but 1 walk in excessive heat could kill them.
Please also be super careful about pets and cars – never leave a dog alone in a car in high temperatures, even for a short time or even with the windows open.
Here are some tips for helping to keep your dogs cool and comfortable:
- Keep them indoors, keep curtains closed to prevent sun coming in
- Use fans to help keep them cool (a bowl of cold water in front of a fan can help circulate cool air).
- Ensure access to lots of fresh cool water
- Make cool tasty treats – stuffing and freezing a Kong, or making ice cubes with your dog’s favourite foods in them
- Paddling pools in the garden can be a fun way to cool off
- Cool mats to lie on
Please also remember it is not just our canine friends who can suffer in the heat – it may be best to keep your feline friends indoors too if possible, or ensure lots of access to shady areas and plenty of water, to prevent them getting heatstroke.
Try to ensure horses have shade available, and make sure they have plenty of water. We would not recommend exercising them in high temperatures.
We hope you all stay safe and cool!
