💛✨ PLEASE SHARE: Opal & Indigo need their Home ✨💛

Everyone… we need your help. 🙏
Two beautiful Whippet sisters, Opal and Indigo, are waiting for the loving home they so deserve — and they’ve waited long enough.

These girls are nearly 7 years old and utterly devoted to one another. They’ve been through everything side by side, and now all they want is a quiet, safe place where they can finally settle, snuggle, and be loved for who they are.

Opal – our playful explorer with the happiest heart

Indigo – our gentle, people-loving shadow who melts into you for cuddles

They are “two peas in a pod,” and watching them together is enough to make anyone fall in love. 💞

🏡 Their home:
• A calm, loving household with more than one adult
• School-age children welcomed
• No other pets – they want to be your one and only duo
• Someone home often to help them settle
• Quiet walking routes and lots of reassurance

Our team will support their adopters every step of the way.

❤️ YOU can help — even if you can't adopt:
👉 Please SHARE this post. Share it everywhere.
👉 If you’d be willing to print a small poster and pop it up where you live (a shop window, workplace board, vet practice, anywhere!) please send us a message — we’ll get one to you.
The more eyes on Opal and Indigo, the better their chance of finally finding home.
They deserve their happy ending. Let’s help them find it. 🏡💛

Just a quick update to let you know that our rehoming centre will be closed for public walk-ins this weekend (Saturday & Sunday).

All pre-booked appointments will still go ahead as planned.

Please be aware that there may be some delays in responding to emails and phone enquiries during these two days. Our on-site team will be focused on caring for our pets and supporting scheduled appointments.

If you receive any redirected calls or emails, we’d really appreciate your help in assisting where possible, or kindly advising that our response times may be slightly slower than usual.

We’ll keep you updated with any changes, and we expect to be back to normal from Monday.

Thank you so much for your understanding and ongoing support — it means a lot to us! 💙

This Remembrance Sunday, we're remembering the men, women and animals of war. ❤️

This beautifully moving painting is called 'Goodbye Old Man' and shows a British soldier saying farewell to his dying horse.

Painted by artist Fortunino Matania, it was commissioned by The Blue Cross Fund in 1916 to raise money to help relieve the suffering of horses on active service in Europe.

Over one million horses saw service with the British Army during World War and we treated thousands.

Never forgotten and always remembered.

📢 Important Update from the Blue Cross Thirsk Centre

Good morning everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that, due to staff shortages this weekend, our rehoming centre will be closed for public walk-ins on Saturday and Sunday.

👉 If you already have an appointment booked, don’t worry — these will still go ahead as planned.

Our on-site team will be focusing on caring for our pets and supporting scheduled appointments, so there may be some delays in answering calls, emails, or assisting anyone visiting the centre without an appointment.

We really appreciate your patience and understanding while we work with a smaller team this weekend. 💙 Normal operations will resume on Monday.

Thank you for your continued support — it means so much to us and to the animals in our care! 🐾

🌟🐴Calling Northern horse communities🐴🌟

We are looking to recruit a Foster yard in Northern England or Southern Scotland who will have the experience and facilities to take in/assess new horses and help them find new homes. This will help us achieve our goal of helping more horses in the Northern area, reducing their travel time and therefore improving their welfare.

This is a Paid opportunity where Blue Cross pay a livery contribution, as well as all vets, farrier and worming costs.

Our ideal new Foster yard will have the ability to separate pairs or a small group of horses/ponies from the rest of their yard whilst they undergo a 28 day Admission period and will need to have good biosecurity during this time. They will need to have a good working knowledge of horse health and behaviour and have great communication skills.

Please share, or if you think this is the role for you, please apply via the link below ⬇

Support Georgina’s Great North run for Pets in need!

We’re incredibly proud of our wonderful team member Georgina , who is taking on the AJ Bell Great North Run 2025 to raise vital funds for Blue Cross and the amazing work we do here at our rehoming centre 💙

Every day, we take in sick, injured, and homeless pets, helping them find the loving homes they deserve. Georgina’s fundraising will directly support these pets and provide essentials.
Georgina’s goal is to raise £300, and every donation – big or small – makes a real difference.
