โTis the season! ๐

We have so so many of you come visit my little shop and say things like โdo these have rawhide in themโ or โI donโt want to feed my dog hideโ. Which is great that as dog owners, you are conscious about what you are putting in your petโs body!
But it also tells us that youโre not necessarily sure what youโre looking for when trying to avoid rawhide. Which is okay, because we are here to help!
Rawhide chews are often found in supermarkets and pet stores/shops and are USUALLY labelled as such. Even if not on the front of the packet, if you flip it over and read the ingredients, most manufacturers will state if the treats are rawhide.
The problem with rawhide is not the skin itself, but the treatment process it goes through to get to the end product. The additives used are not beneficial to your pet and can cause problems for many dogs.
Animal skin (hide) can be fed to your pet perfectly safely. We sell lots of different skin products including goat rolls, camel skins and beef head skin. These are all air dried which means they are naturally preserved and perfectly healthy for your pet. Skin is great for dogs of all ages! Itโs a fantastic bone free, longer lasting chew that is tough enough to help break down plaque on your pets teeth and keep them occupied for a little while.
Rawhide is a chemically treated byproduct of leather. Itโs made from an inner layer of animal skin, usually cow or horse. It is processed with various chemicals, including bleaches and preservatives, to create products like dog chews. After processing, the inner hide is cleaned, whitened, and then cut and formed into shapes, often with added flavors, colors, or glue. ๐๐
Whatever you choose to feed your pet, always do so under supervision and provide clean, fresh drinking water at all times ๐พ๐ถ๐พ
