Cat Sitting vs. Cattery: Which is Best for Your Furry Friend?

If you’re planning a trip and wondering how to care for your cat, you might be weighing the options between hiring a cat sitter and booking a cattery. Here’s a quick comparison to help you decide

Cat Sitting:

Comfort of Home: Your cat stays in its familiar environment, which can reduce stress and anxiety.
Personalized Care: A cat sitter provides one-on-one attention, follows your routine, and even takes care of small tasks like bringing in mail or watering plants.
Flexibility: Your sitter can visit once or multiple times a day

Professional Environment: Catteries are designed specifically for cats, offering safe, secure, and sometimes luxurious accommodations.
Social Interaction: If your cat enjoys being around other felines, a cattery could provide some social stimulation.
24/7 Care: Staff are usually on-site to monitor and care for your cat around the clock.

Which should you choose?

Consider your cat's personality. If they’re easily stressed or prefer solitude, a cat sitter might be best. But if they’re social and adaptable, a cattery could be a fun adventure!

An important day for cat owners, make sure your cat is microchipped it is now a legal requirement as well as the best way of getting them home if they get lost

We, along with many others, have lobbied for compulsory microchipping for pet cats, and we are thrilled this has become law in England today! Microchipping your cat gives them the best chance of being returned home to you if they were ever to go missing. Learn more: http://spr.ly/Microchipping

❔ Did you know?
Starting June 10, 2024, it will be mandatory for all pet cats in England to have a microchip. This regulation applies to cats before they reach 20 weeks of age, with exceptions made for unowned cats such as feral and community cats. Even indoor-only cats must comply with the microchipping requirement. Additionally, it's necessary to maintain updated contact information on a Defra-approved microchipping database according to the new rules.

Failure to comply with the June deadline means you'll have a 21-day grace period to get your cat microchipped, failing which could result in a fine of up to £500 as per the new law.

Microchips are so important and a legal requirement from June...

The law changes on the 10th of June for microchipping cats. We're doing another microchipping event on the 12th of June with the help of Jonathan Woods Vets between 2 and 4pm.

Due to the turn out on our previous microchipping event, we are expecting a large number of people to show up.

Please can you get in touch and let us know whether you would like to be with us between 2-3 and 3-4 so we can manage the amount of cats on site and make sure you're not waiting too long.

Please do give us a call on 0300 777 1853, email us [email protected] or message us via the page.

Tick Bite Prevention Week, celebrated from March 24th to 30th, is a vital period dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of tick bites and how to prevent them.

Ticks are carriers of diseases that can affect both humans and animals. With the rising cases of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses, it becomes increasingly important to understand how to protect ourselves and our furry friends.

Please make sure that your cat receives tick and worm treatment regularly to keep them and you safe.

Nothing better than a happy cat!

Signs your cat is happy and relaxed 😸

Today is , there’s nothing better than seeing a happy cat! There are a few clear signs that your cat is happy. These include:

❣️ An upright tail. If your cat’s tail is upright, sometimes curved at the tip, and they’re walking towards you, this is usually a greeting and means they are happy to see you

❣️ Soft eyes. By this, we mean they’re not open wide and alert. They might be half closed (more of a rugby ball shape than a football)

❣️ Slow blinking. Cats will slow blink one another as well as people to show they are relaxed and being friendly. If you slow blink at a cat, then slowly turn your head away, this is a great way to show a cat that you’re not threatening

❣️ Rolling onto their back. If your cat is happy and relaxed with you, they might roll onto their back and show you their tummy. This is a sign of greeting and trust – not an invitation for belly rubs! To save your hand from the swipe of sharp claws, it’s best to give them a gentle head rub instead

❣️ A hop-up. If your cat does a little hop-up to greet you, they’re asking for a fuss. It would be rude not to oblige.

To quote Cats Protection Neutering, otherwise known as spaying, ‘fixing’, or ‘being done’ is an operation that prevents female cats from getting pregnant and male cats from making female cats pregnant.

As well as avoiding unwanted litters of kittens, neutering has numerous benefits such as:

helping protect your cat against nasty diseases and some cancers
protecting female cats against risks associated with pregnancy
deterring male cats from straying from home, or being injured in fights
decreasing the likelihood of your male cat ‘spraying’ urine in your home – something unneutered cats do to mark their scent to appeal to potential female mates

So on World Spay Day do consider doing the right thing for your cat.

🐈NEW MICROCHIP LAW FOR CATS🐈

Compulsory microchipping for all owned cats is coming into place on the 10th of June 2024.

The new rules mean cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date in a pet microchipping database.

Owners found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500.

If your cat is not yet microchipped please make an appointment with your vet. Microchipping is a simple procedure that can be carried on a routine appointment.
