🐾 WORLD ANIMAL DAY 🐾
Today, we are celebrating world animal day by showing you some of the wonderful creatures we've had the pleasure to see out in the wild.
World animal day unites the animal welfare movement and helps to improve welfare standards around the globe.

🐈⬛️ PLAY TIME! 🐈⬛️
Regular exercise is important for all cats and helps to maintain both mental and
physical health.
Cats play to simulate natural hunting behaviour, so short bursts of interest
in toys is normal! To encourage this
behaviour, you can play with your cat for a few minutes 2-3 times a day.
Did you know that one sign your cat may have arthritis is if they show a decreased interest in playing. Call us today to book an appointment so we can give your cat a check over for signs of arthritis pain if you've noticed this change.

🐥 BIRD WATCH 🐥
We love having the bird feeders in our garden. They make an entertaining show for us!
We're often visited by birds such as blue tits, sparrows, and the occasional chubby pigeon looking for scraps on the ground!
📢 📞 It’s that time of year… we are getting many calls regarding baby birds being found by members of the public. Our advice is as follows…..
🐦 Nestlings usually have little to no feathers. If you find one out of a nest we advise you place it back into its nest using personal protective equipment (PPE). If the nest has been destroyed we advise you make a suitable nest from a plant pot/small basket with nesting materials; and place it close to the original nest. If the nestling is injured then bring it to your closest veterinary practice.
🐦 Fledglings usually have almost all of their feathers. They will often be found on the ground. There is nothing wrong with this! It is all part of growing up and learning how to fly and survive! Keep your pets away and let them do their thing. Their parents will be nearby looking after them! If they physically cannot walk due to obvious injury then bring it to your nearest veterinary practice using PPE. If you know 💯 % that their parents are deceased then please contact an animal charity, such as Mousehole Bird Sanctuary or Finnigans Rainbow. If they are in immediate danger, move them to safety with as little handling as possible, a short distance away using PPE.
If you are immune compromised then we recommend you call a charity and do not make contact with any birds.

Which part of the body do you think this sample of bacteria came from? 🦠
🧫 in this part of the body over 1600 different species of bacteria can be found 😮
Although there are both good and bad bacteria - if you have pets we would recommend regularly washing your hands and furnishings to avoid contamination from these microscopic beasties! ❤️ 🐾
🐈⬛️ New Microchipping Law 🐈⬛️
From the 10th of June, all cats over the age of 20 weeks old in the UK MUST have an implanted and registered microchip!
Please visit the GOV.UK website for more information.

😻Meet Ciara!😻
Ciara is a very special cat, who was in last week to see vet Owen for a check up… Last month Ciara was diagnosed with 🧫 Neutrophillic Cholangiohepatitis 🧪- a nasty infection of the liver which meant she had a high fever🌡️and didn't want to eat anything 🐟. After a series of tests, Ciara was hospitalised with us and given intravenous fluids, antibiotics💊, and had an oesophageal feeding tube placed - this means our nursing team could ensure Ciara got the energy she needed, in a stress-free way, even when she didn't want to eat.
Thanks to the hard work of our nursing team, vet Owen and Ciara's wonderful owner, Ciara is now back on her paws and feeling her normal self! 🧡 🐾 #truro #cornwall #cornishvets #veterinarynurse #cityroad #cityroadvets #cat #feline #feeding #tube #feedingtube
Today marks the final day of Hedgehog Awareness Week 2024, but that doesn’t mean to say we can’t continue to help our spiky little friends 🦔
Hedgehogs don’t require much to survive, which makes it easy for us to make a wildlife space in our garden for them to use as a habitat. There are several wildlife-friendly features that can be added to your green space to make the area more inviting:
• “Hedgehog highways” are small 13cmx13cm gaps in the bottom of fences/walls to allow them to pass through. This helps to keep them off roads and away from cars!
• Log piles, leaf piles, wild corners and edges will attract natural food and offer shelter.
• Water can often be scarce this time of year, so place several clean shallow bowls in the garden (add some stones in the bottom to allow bees and butterflies to drink from it too!).
• Ensure escape routes are built into ponds/pools such as a sloping edge, ramp or half submerged rock.
• Remove or lift netting 30cm from the ground to ensure they can safely pass under without becoming tangled.
• Always check for wildlife before mowing, strimming or lighting a bonfire.
This little cutie was brought into us by a member of the public and as you can see, enjoyed some attention! He was collected by Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue for rehabilitation and release. This is a fantastic charity that we work with and they do a brilliant job 👏 They can be supported by donations of food and bedding materials or monetary donations are always gratefully received where possible.
