It's a jungle 😋 not only does it look effective, but these houseplants and Sweet Potato vines help with water quality, acting to suck up nitrates and additional nutrients which could otherwise fuel algae!

I've used it here in an Axolotl tank as a great alternative to plants being planted within the aquarium, as they can be quite destructive. This also gives them greater coverage to feel more secure under shaded areas.

The spotlight used is Aqua One
Dynamic 58 Light, which includes a bracket and easy installation ☺️

As fellow hobbyists, we wholeheartedly understand concerns surrounding running costs for your aquarium, but even tanks on a large scale do not need to break the bank in terms of running costs!

We have handy guides and articles such as this by our expert Paul Tapley on how you too can enjoy your hobby with peace of mind regarding running costs ☺️

Here's a little more to know about Discus if you're tempted to keep or breed them...

Both parents care for the babies—and even produce a special mucus on their skin to feed their fry!

Discus fish come from the slow-moving, warm waters of the Amazon River Basin. They love soft, acidic water, just like in the wild

After hatching (usually in 48–60 hours), the fry feed on a special mucus layer secreted from their parents’ skin. This continues for up to 2 weeks—a rare and incredible behavior in freshwater fish

Have you bred discus before? Share your tips, pics, or experiences, we’d love to hear your story 😋💖

See our group of beautiful Asian Discus having one of their 3 daily beef heart feeds 😋

Discus fish are stunning, elegant, and full of personality – but they also require a little extra care and attention. Here are a few key tips to keep your discus happy and healthy:

Stable Warm Temps – Keep water between 28°C - 30°C. Sudden changes can stress them out!

Crystal Clear Water – Discus thrive in clean, soft, and slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–6.5). Frequent water changes are a must (at least 25–50% weekly).

High-Quality Diet – Feed them a varied diet of high-protein foods like beef heart, and quality dry foods. Feed small amounts 2–3 times a day.

Peaceful Tankmates Only – Discus are calm and gentle. Avoid aggressive or fast fish that may outcompete them for food.

Group Living – Discus are social! Keep them in groups of at least 5–6 for a stress-free tank.

Consistency is Key – These fish love stability. Avoid overhandling, overfeeding, or major tank changes too often.

Thinking of keeping discus? Do your research, plan ahead, and enjoy the reward of seeing these amazing fish thrive!
