⚠️ Seasonal Dangers ⚠️ Autumn can be a great time to head out and about with your dog - but there are also a few things that can harm your dog or make them ill. 🐕 Here are 8 seasonal dangers dogs want their owners to know about...
​🍄 Wild Mushrooms
​Some types of wild fungi are edible but it’s often difficult to distinguish these from the poisonous types. If your dog eats an unknown fungus it could make them unwell.
🍏 ​Fallen Fruits
​As the temperature begins to cool in autumn, many trees start to drop their fruits. Some seeds, pips and fruit stones (apples, cherries, plums etc.) contain toxins that can make your dog ill.
​🐜 Fleas & Ticks
​These blood sucking mites are more commonly found during the spring and autumn, but can feed from dogs at any time of the year.
​🌷Planted Spring Bulbs
​If you’re planting spring flowering bulbs in the autumn, remember to keep a close eye on your dog while you’re busy digging. Daffodil, tulip and spring crocus bulbs can all be toxic and can make your dog unwell.
🐕 ​Seasonal Canine Illness
​SCI is an autumnal illness that affects dogs of any size, breed or age. Most cases occur between August and November across the UK, but it’s unknown what causes it – only that it could be linked to woodland areas.
​🍁 Wet, Rotting Fallen Leaves
​Piles of wet, rotting leaves are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, fungus and mould to grow. This can lead to gastrointestinal issues if your dog ingests them.
​🍂 Oak Foliage & Acorns
​Acorns contain a type of toxin called tannic acid that can make your dog sick or give them a stomach upset.
​🌰 Conkers
​These hard shiny seeds contain a toxin called aesculin, which can make your dog sick or give them an upset stomach.

Hi all, please do take care in this warm weather and stay cool ☀️

It's so easy to forget how quickly our animal friends can overheat - signs of heatstroke may include -

*Panting which increases as heatstroke progresses
*Drooling, salivating, vomiting
*Agitation, restlessness,
*Very red or pale gums
Symptoms will progress very quickly and can be fatal - so when it comes to keeping our pets safe in hot weather, we must do all we can to prevent heat stress occurring.
Please do provide plenty of well ventilated, shady areas and several sources of cool water to drink for all animals in warm weather - do check all indoor and outdoor pets can stay cool and hydrated as temperatures climb - its also lovely to leave water out for the wildlife💜

Dogs will always follow us anywhere, but better to miss a walk than risk them overheating. If they must go then only ever walk in the cool parts of the day, early morning or evening, and choose a short, shady route.
