The Pet Abduction Act 2024 is officially in place, making stealing a cat or dog a criminal offence. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Until now, pet theft was treated as property theft under the Theft Act 1968. But pets are so much more than propertyโ€”they're family! ๐Ÿ’” This new law finally recognises the emotional impact of losing a beloved pet.

โš–๏ธ Under the new Act, pet theft is now a specific crime, with penalties of up to 5 years in prison and/or a fine. Police are now required to separately record pet theft cases, ensuring they get the attention they deserve. ๐Ÿ™Œ
