We have all heard the dreadful words LUNGWORM. So why is it that veterinary staff are so concerned regarding this parasite?
Lungworm is a parasite that can cause severe illness and even death if left untreated long enough. Despite its name, it actually travels around the whole body and can cause breathing difficulties, heart failure, seizures, bleeding disorders, chronic cough, etc . Dogs catch lungworm by eating infected slugs and snails, usually these are ingested by accident whilst eating grass or drinking outside.
The GOOD NEWS is it's easy to prevent by making sure your dog’s normal de-worming regime includes lungworm protection. Also, picking up your pets poo helps prevent lungworm as their larvae are excreted this way, continuing the vicious cycle.
Please don't hesitate in contacting us if you have any further queries or concerns regarding lungworm
