Haven't done one of these for a while, so here's what's been going on at Gwen's Choice this week....

Well, it's been all about the weather❄️🌨...
Lots of dog food orders were received early in the week, but snow and icy conditions delayed some deliveries. We're back on track now, with the courier making it up the icy hill on Friday and a beautiful trip around a wintery Vale if Clwyd on Sat saw that we completed all our local deliveries👍

Despite the weather, it's been busy behind the scenes with the 2025 diary already filling up!
* Wern Vets Cyf monthly Puppy Social evenings we're booked in the diary.🐾
* Canine First Aid bookings for Feb & March finalised. Looking forward to delivering training sessions to Hot Dogs Forests & Fetch and Nantlle Vale Dog Training Club 🐕🐩
* Also, lots of prep done this week for another semester with the next generation of Veterinary Nurses 📚

Oh, and of course, we found a bit of time to get outside with the dogs to enjoy the snow!☃️

So that was it, the first full week of the year done.
How was yours? What did you get up to? Easing in gently to 2025 or flat out busy?
Tell us what you've been up to, we would love to hear from you.⬇️

Does this medication look familiar? If so, then you might own a working gundog!

These eye drops have been prescribed for our Gnasher, who has unfortunately developed a corneal ulcer. Corneal ulcers are fairly common in gundogs, especially spaniels, and often occur as a consequence of a scratch to the surface of the eye. Luckily for Gnasher, his ulcer only appears to be superficial, and hopefully, a few days of medication will see him right.

If you suspect your dog has an eye injury initially keep it moist, by regular rinsing with sterile saline, and contact your vet for further advice. Eye injuries are painful and can get worse very quickly if left untreated.

Here's hoping our Gnasher will be back to his usual 100mph self very soon!🐾

After a short but bravely fought illness, we say goodbye to our Wilma. If you met her, you will know she was a diamond, a dream dog....just simply the best.
We are obviously heartbroken, and I know she touched the heart of many. So lucky to have called her ours.x

I will ge attending a very interesting seminar at Pedwar Pawen Dogtrainingclub Mostyn this Saturday. It's open to everyone, not just club members. Let me know if you're going, be good to see you there👍

This popular seminar is a wide-ranging mix of legal issues that are important to dog owners, including responsibilities when buying and selling dogs, liability (both civil and criminal) for dogs that harm people and animals and much more. Are apples poisonous for dogs?
Well, it's another yes and no answer!

A bit of apple is fine. and no, they won't get cyanide poisoning from eating the pips... unless they eat hundreds, that is! But....

If they help themselves to windfall apples, as nicely demonstrated by our very own Gnasher in the photo🙈, there are some potential problems:
*Gastroenteritis from excess sugars and fibre.
*Ethanol poisoning if the fruit is fermenting.
*Tremorgenic mycotoxin poisoning if the fruit is mouldy

Signs of poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea, thirst, hypersalivation, and depression. More serious symptoms could include disorientation, tremors, seizures, respiratory problems, and even coma.

If you are worried about potential poisoning, you should contact your vet for advice.

To learn more about dogs and poisoning, join us on one of our Canine first aid courses held across North Wales this autumn.
