Its been a while since I've posted on here because I've been so busy running 1 to 1 puppy classes! 🏃‍♀️🐶
Here's a selection of puppies that have graduated from my 1 to 1 classes over the last year! 🥳 🎓
Both puppies and owners learnt life skills that has put their puppies on course to be a calm, connected, well mannered member of the family 😍👨‍👨‍👧‍👦🐾

My 1 to 1 Puppy Foundation courses have many benefits over group classes:

Lockdown Puppy Classes 😷🐶
My one-to-one puppy and dog training classes are available for immediate start throughout lockdown. All classes are flexible to fit around your daily or weekly routine.

Classes will follow the current government guidelines and will be run one-to-one in a public place or on zoom 🌳🖥

Each week includes 2 x 30 minute zoom or 'public place' classes, and is backed up with training notes for you to practise with between training sessions.🤓🐕.

We had many puppies and families graduate Tail Blazer Dog Training zoom school over the summer! 🎓 🐶👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, and the current zoom class structure is based on this previous successful formula.

Bonnie has graduated from Tail Blazer Dog Training 'Puppy Foundation' Course!! 😍🙌🐶🎓🐾
🥳 Bonnie started the course at 10 weeks. She needed help controlling her nipping and biting and boisterous play.

She enjoyed the foundation training was soon a confident, relaxed puppy who loved her outings in the parks and chilling in the house.

Her family have learnt so much and are looking forward to building on this.

Congratulations Dexter on graduating from Tail Blazer Dog Training 'Puppy Foundation' Course!! 😍🙌🐶🎓🐾
🥳 Dexter started the course at 9 weeks. Alongside foundation training, he needed help with his toilet training, learning how to inhibit his nipping and to enjoy spending time by himself 😴

He's a bright boy and enjoyed his training sessions. Ping pong puppy was his favourite game! Always with his nose to the floor, in true cocker spaniel style, training outside with all the lovely smells as a distraction was a particular challenge!

However, training with distractions has paid off 🎓🐶🎓🐶 and Dexter is now a confident puppy, happy spending his time learning new skills, and exploring on his loose lead walks with his family. 🐶

Congratulations Kylo on graduating from Tail Blazer Dog Training 'Puppy Foundation' Course!! 😍🙌🐶🎓🐾
🥳 Kylo started the course at 9 weeks. Alongside foundation training, he needed help with his toilet training, learning how to inhibit his nipping and to enjoy spending time by himself 😴

Despite his young age he took to training straight away and was soon enjoying spending time by himself with his enrichment activities, or just snoozing! 😴 He loved using his nose and enjoyed playing the sniff games in the garden.

Kylo and family have worked hard and achieved great results 🎓🐶🎓🐶 Kylo is now a confident puppy, happy spending his time learning new skills, or exploring on his loose lead walks with his family. 🐶

Congratulations to Elly, Rudy and Luna on graduating from Tail Blazer Dog Training 'Puppy Foundation' Course!! 😍🙌🐶🎓🐾🥳
The puppy foundation course has been continuing through lockdown and the current tier 2 restrictions. The weather was a little challenging for some of the training sessions outdoors! 🌧🌨 but we managed to rearrange if needed to run the same session over zoom 🙂

All of our puppies enjoyed the training 🐶, and were soon confident walking on a loose lead 🚶‍♀️🐕, enjoying exploring the outdoors taking in all the new sights, smells and sounds , then happy relaxing by themselves with the latest 'household recycle' mental enrichment puzzle! 🧻📦 🤓 🐶

All of the families have worked hard and achieved great results 🎓🐶🎓🐶 Elly, Rudy and Luna are now confident puppies with a great connection with their families 🐶 🦴

Henry and Ted are off on an adventure! 🐕🌳🐾
They are raising money for the Royal British Legion, and with the help of their hoomanz, they are walking 10 miles from Oxford War Memorial to Abingdon War Memorial along the Thames Path on Saturday Nov 14th 🌿🍁⛵️

We will be posting a picture diary of the walk on our Facebook Story on the day, and a link if you'd like to donate

Congratulations Twiglet on graduating from Tail Blazer Dog Training 'Puppy Foundation' Course!! 🙌🐶🎓🐾
🥳 Twiglet started the course at 16 weeks and was a little live-wire, struggling to enjoy being calm around people, and how to inhibit her nipping.

Twiglet and family have worked hard and achieved great results 🎓🐶🎓🐶 Her nipping has decreased dramatically and she has increased in confidence enabling her to wait patiently as people enter the house before greeting them.

She has also mastered her party piece of 'Spin' to impress her visitors!

The Perfect Puppy Training Treat 🦴🐶
When training we use lots of small tasty treats. For puppies 🐾 we need to keep the momentum going during training, so its important to choose soft treats that we can break into tiny pieces so they can easily eat them. The tinier the better!

We use treats to reward the behaviour we're looking for, sometimes in a fast sequence. 🏃‍♀️ If the treats are too big or crunchy they will just sit back and take 5 minutes to eat it! 🛌So we lose the momentum.

'Natures Menu' are the perfect SOFT training treats. 😍 They are 95% meat and can be broken into tiny pieces for training. Giving puppies a perfect nutritious reward every time....with momentum maintained 🏃‍♀️ 🐶

Training your Puppy to Love Fireworks! 😍🐾🎉

Bonfire night is almost upon us. So that you don’t discover your puppy doesn’t like the load bangs of fireworks on bonfire night, start training your puppy now to love the sound instead!

Noise phobia in dogs is usually because of not being exposed to noise when they were puppies.🐶 As puppies its important to socialise them so that they have a ‘neutral’ response to all sorts of novel objects, people, and noises. 🛹🧟‍♀️⚡️💥For noise this is done at low volumes to start, then slowly increasing.

Dogs Trust do a great ‘scary noises’ ⚡️💥sounds app that you can download onto your phone. This includes fireworks 🧨. Your puppy will be able to detect where the sound is coming from, so to make it as realistic as possible, set up a pair or portable speakers in a different room,🎼 and then connect your phone, and control the volume from your phone.

Play this app to your puppy on a daily basis, slowly increasing in volume. If at any time they are startled the volume is too high. Once your puppy is consistently showing a ‘neutral’ response to the sound then pair this with treats! 🦴You’re now conditioning a ‘yippee’ response when they hear fireworks. 😍🐾

Pamper your pooch on Bath Tub Day!!! 🛁🐶
Not all dogs like bath time, although its an important activity if they need regular grooming, or they to roll in fox poo!! 🛁🐶🙊

Lickimats which fix onto the side of your bath, are perfect for making bath time fun. Set up the bath area with a lickimat fixed to the side with some soft food on such as dog meat, or cream cheese.

This will not only keep your dog busy whilst you shower them, but they'll also look forward to bath time!! 😍🛁🐶🐾

Post your pictures in the comments of your pooch after bathtime, or even in the bath if you have enough hands to take the picture!

Here's everything you need to get started

*Bedding - Vetbeds are ideal, machine washable and chew resistant!
*Crate - to keep them safe and out of trouble when alone
*Playpen - fill with all the toys and things they can chew on and play with
*Collar - not too loose to slip over head, but able to fit two fingers underneath
*ID Disc - with name and address of owner, you don't have to put on dogs name
*Harness - For loose lead walking
*Lead - Medium length light weight lead for loose lead walking
*Interesting Toys - a range to play with and chew toys for mental stimulation
*Food and Water bowls - metal bowls with non-slip base prevent chewing
*Puppy Food - check the website 'all about dog food' for ideas
*Car harness - for safe travels from day one
*Microchipping - your breeder should have registered your puppy, you need to change the details on petlog
*Poo Bags!!

Conker Hazards for Dogs 🌰🐶

The conkers are starting to fall to floor on wooded walks. While many dogs ignore these on walks, some like to play with them or even try to eat them. So keep an eye on your dog during walks when conkers have fallen, especially if they tend to pick things up whilst out.

Conkers contain a chemical called aesculin, which can be toxic to them if eaten.

They can start vomiting, have diarrhoea, and display abdominal pain. In severe cases, the dog may become dehydrated and go into shock. If they do then contact your vet immediately

Learn a New Skill ! 🎓

People often think 'Dog Training Classes' are for training the dog.
Not True!
I'm really training the owner!!

This way when the classes finish you have not only seen why positive reinforcement, force-free training works, but you will have the skills and confidence to be able to continue to train your dog or puppy as they grow.

So if you'd like to learn more about 'how dogs learn' and what you can do to train them to be calm and well-mannered members of the family register on one of my one-to-one puppy or dog training courses.

Daisy recently graduated from Tail Blazer Dog Training after starting my 'Puppy Foundation' course at 10 weeks old.😍🐶

She's now 16 weeks and is coming out of the 'Puppy Socialisation' stage and heading into the 'Juvenile' stage of her life.

Pups in the Juvenile stage begin exhibiting independent and exploratory behaviours. Well-socialised and trained puppies will be comfortable interacting with people and other animals and not be anxious or frustrated. However, continued socialisation and continued practise of the skills learnt in the 'Puppy Foundation' classes are needed throughout the Juvenile period, otherwise they can fade from your puppies memory.

Practise makes permanent!

* Walking on a Loose Lead
* Happy being left Alone for short periods
* Consistent Recall on cue
* Learning bite inhibition so you stop making holes in your familys clothing!

First Day at School! 🐶🐩😍
Was lovely to get the gang back together today after a long Summer away.

Cody the poodle 🐩 was new to the group, after spending some time training with Tail Blazer Dog Training. He loved his walk and run around with his new friends

As part of my training courses I can organise group walks with socialised dogs to help your dog improve their social skills and enjoy off lead walks in the open countryside 🐾🐩🐕🌳☘️

🐶If you got your puppy just before lockdown, chances are they've missed out on the usual 'Puppy Socialisation' of meeting and greeting lots of new dogs🐾🐕🐩🦮🐕‍🦺 and people 👩‍🦱👨‍🦳👳‍♀️ from all walks of life to make sure they are confident in different situations as they grow.😃

As a puppy they take everything in their stride as they discover their new and exciting world around them.🎉

As they hit adolescence from 5 months their hormones can make them more anxious or frustrated when they encounter new situations. So if they haven't had much of a chance to socialise as a puppy, they lack confidence, and this is when you see barking or lunging on a lead.

As part of my 'Behaviour Clinic' classes I can help you tackle 'lead reactivity' to people or dogs 🐕‍🦺👩‍🦱

As part of my training I will be able to introduce your puppy to different dogs in supervised set-ups 🐕‍🦺🦮🐩, so they learn how to play and interact in a fun but self-controlled manner. This gives them the skills and confidence to meet and greet other dogs without barking or pulling you down the road!

🌞Make the most of the nice weather and create some garden 'brain games' for your dog 🤓 🐶. USING ITEMS YOU WOULD NORMALLY PUT IN THE BIN!

A 'Brain Game' is any activity that provides mental stimulation for your dog. It fulfils your dogs needs for entertainment and provides a challenge that is both interesting and exciting

🧻Toilet Roll Tube 🧻:
* You need an old toilet roll or kitchen role cardboard tube
* Squash the ends of the roll and place some kibble or treats inside
* Close the other end so you get an enclosed tube with treats inside
* Pop in the garden for your dog to work out how to get to the kibble

Brain Games are a vital aid in training a dog to enjoy being calm. The more they play them the more their focus increases and their confidence grows.

I provide training courses for puppies, adolescent dogs (5 months and up) and adult dogs. My classes are one to one and I can arrange for puppies that I training separately to meet up for play dates or a walk together
