With the driest summer on record since the 1970's and another heatwave on the way we are certainly feeling the repercussions!
🥵🌵🔥

The grass has been scorched so badly that it hasn't grown during its usual season (May-July) it's looking unlikely it won't grow now which leaves us in a dire situation 😖

Grass as the main food source for our Baah-Land family is now scarce and is already in short supply

Normally the hay would have been made for the winter stock by now but with no grass to even provide for the summer this winter is going to be a serious challenge!

We need to secure our hay supply now otherwise we just can't afford to to pay the prices that are already through the roof!

Can you help by buying a bale? A round bale is £20 now and will no doubt be over £50 by the time we get to the colder seasons.

As the sheep's only food source we have no choice but to buy the bales whatever the cost!

As always we are deeply moved by the love and support we get from our beautiful supporters, THANK YOU

The temperature is due to reach almost 40 degrees here today and tomorrow but that doesn’t mean we can stop working, in fact we must work even harder to keep our residents safe during this time!

We will making sure they have constant access to cool water throughout the day, shade to get out of the hot sun (thanks to your kind donations we have just bought some gazebos to create some extra shade in our paddocks for them!), and be frequently monitoring them throughout the day and night - as we will be staying with them to make sure they are all coping well, ready to spring quickly into action if they need us!

As some of our residents are vulnerable, these need a lot of extra care from us and these weather conditions do pose a threat to them. They’re simply not used to these temperatures. Rest assured we are doing everything possible to keep them safe 🐑

As well as being a sanctuary to rescued sheep, goats, chickens and geese, we’re also proud to provide a sanctuary for our local wildlife who often choose to make Baah-Land their home as well. We currently have several families of Barn Swallows nesting in our barn! They return every year to raise their young here at the sanctuary, knowing that they are safe; protected from predators, and with constant access to fresh water, food and nesting material. It is truly a joy watching them grow, learn to fly, and prepare for their long flight for winter.

Our wildlife were here before us and so we always do our best to live in harmony with them, sharing their land 💚

Meet Yoda and Marshmallow! These two little boys are currently settling in next door to our lovely Eliza who we recently introduced you to - the coat you can see then nuzzling belonged to their carer, as where possible we always like our residents to have a little piece of home (unless it was a home they would prefer to quickly forget, as is the sad case with many of our other sheep).

Although Eliza will never be able to see them, sheep form strong friendships, and as they grow up together Yoda and Marshmallow will help to become her eyes, guiding her around the sanctuary together, and keeping each other safe. We have several blind sheep here at Baah-Land, and all can be found with their friends, their guides, helping them to live life exactly as they do. We can learn a lot from our animal friends 💚

Morning Baah-Landers can you please invite your caring friends to follow us on our page , we will be posting more often soon about our amazing residents .

Following our post about little Eliza, the lamb born without eyes, we thought you’d like to see this small snippet of video we took of her during her visit to the eye clinic. Here she is happily grazing like any other lamb! She is getting used to the world around her using her other senses and we have changed our care routines for her to make life a little easier - we actually have several blind sheep here at the sanctuary, all who live with this disability in a way that is quite inspiring. Animals simply make the best of what they have and here we try to give them even better 💚

Meet our lovely Eliza, one of our very special lambs here at the sanctuary. Sadly little Eliza was born with no eyes. She was due to be killed, so was brought to us instead so that her life could be saved! Despite her difficult start in life, she has the most lovely nature and it is clear to us that she really wants to live.

We recently took her to Leominster Specialist Eye Clinic to meet lovely vet John who sadly confirmed that no eyes or eyelids had developed at birth, just her tear ducts so nothing can be done to make her see. He said she was blessed to be with us ❤️‍🩹 although we can’t help but feel sad for not being able to see the beauty of the world around her, she has never been able to, so will use her other senses very well - she has already learned to follow and lie in the sun. Such a sweet little lamb!

We will always do our very best for each and every resident here, and some like little Eliza do need that extra care and attention. We’re only able to do this thanks to YOUR support and we can’t tell you how grateful we are. We know our updates can be a little few and far between at the moment, but this is because we are simply so busy taking care of these amazing animals. We’re still here and we’re still caring - thank you for doing the same 🐑💚

Meet Sweetheart and her three little girls, Candy, Sweet, and Smartie. Sweetheart is a really good mother, caring for all three lambs although she only has one side of her udder working - with us topping up their milk throughout the day and night to help them all out.

If not for us being in the right place at the right time, the farmer was to take away two leaving her with one to feed. Once they had weaned the remaining lamb she was no use to them anymore to breed and would have been sent away for slaughter and all her remaining babies once weighing what they needed - this can be anything from 10 weeks to 1 year. Although we already have so many mouths to feed here, how could we stand by and let this happen?

So of course, we rescued them! Poor Sweetheart was so wild and scared, but soon settled and began to trust us. Their life has changed forever now they are safe with us at Baah-Land but how different would it have been if we were not passing that day to buy feed for the many hungry residents here!

To think of all the lambs you see in the fields will shortly be no more is so sad, but Candy, Sweet and Smartie are now safe with us thanks to your continued support 💚

We are currently fundraising to replace our sanctuary fence to keep our rescued sheep safe in their Forever Home here. Time and constant battering from bad weather over the winter have taken their toll on much of our fencing, and now we need to act to make our paddocks safe and secure. This is not only so important to keep our rescued residents safe and happy, but it's also one of the first steps to getting our sanctuary ready for YOU to be able to visit us in the future as well! 💚

We have started work on this, but as you can probably imagine, this is an incredibly expensive project with such large areas to cover and the care of the animals here always comes first, so funding is often diverted to our vet bills, feed, and bedding; leaving very little to spend on anything else. We are entirely self-funded and rely on the kindness of your donations so every penny will really make a difference to us!

Awww we love you Mary 🙏

Hi Everyone!

So sorry for the radio silence!

We really have been struggling of late, to be honest we are quite overwhelmed trying to keep Baah-Land going! 😱

With literally just two of us caring for the animals we so deeply care about and want to keep alive everything else seems to take a back seat 💺

Our main mission has always been to save animals from commercial farming and ultimately being eaten which has got us this far...but sadly trying to look after such a huge family is really taking its toll on us humans.

We barely have time to eat, sleep or have any social time with friends and family 😩

We haven’t had any time at all to do fund raising or get on top of the admin required to apply for grants etc which means we have to admit we are in desperate, desperate need of HELP to achieve our dream of being an open sanctuary! 😔

Right now what we are doing just isn’t sustainable but we really don’t want to give up on these beautiful souls that just won’t survive without us!

IF YOU LOVE ANIMALS AND HAVE ANY SPARE TIME TO VOLUNTEER PLEASE DO REACH OUT......WE NEED YOU!!!

Hey Baah-Land Friends!

So sorry it’s been so long since we have posted, saving animals and caring for our Baah-Land family is all consuming!

We really could do with a marketing manager to help us run our website and socials! 🧑🏻‍💻👩🏿‍💻🧑🏼‍💻👩🏼‍💻

Now everyone seems to have returned to full time work we are back to just the two of us running things day to day and we just don’t have time to keep up with comms 😱

Our families welfare always comes first and this year we have had Thumper and his bad leg, Cluckie with her broken beak and have lost some of our dearly loved family members along the way 😢🐏👩🏼‍⚕️

If you think you can help or know someone looking for marketing experience, willing to
volunteer then please do give us a shout.

We are always desperate for help, our main focus is reducing the number of animals living a life of pain, misery and torture that’s a big task which takes up all of our time.

As always we are deeply grateful for all the love and support we receive 🙏

Thank you 4 Point Physio

Thank you 4 Point Physio

Thumper is a rare golden Guernsey Goat, he is one of the most charismatic members of the Baah-Land family for sure! The Golden Guernsey Goat is on the Rare Breed Survival Trust's watchlist with only an estimated 500 – 1000 breeding females in the UK. Thumper has become quite despondent of late, we...

UPDATE

Thank you to all our beautiful supporters for your very kind and generous donations.

We are putting in an order for the slabs once we get to the end of the month, we have enough now to pave a short walk way to tour the main barns.

A MASSIVE BAAH-LAND THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!

There is still time to Nab a Slab, use the link below.

The Baah-Land crew have recently been Shawn, with the warm weather they have to have their wool off sure it’s a relief! Also important for their well-being as it prevents maggots from getting into their wool which can be fatal!

We use special sanctuary sheerers as they take extra care and time not to rush or hurt the sheep, traditional sheering is super fast which means accidents do happen!

With 140 sheep at £5 each it certainly adds up!

If you can help us pay the bill or have sponsored one of our family and would like to pay for their sheering please use the link below.

As always we are deeply grateful 🐏🙏😊
