I’ll ask a lot of questions during a “meet and greet” but it’s not an interview and you are certainly never being judged. It’s basically my chance to pick the brains of the people who know a dog best, so I can plan the best walks for your particular dog.
Everyone (human and dog) has quirks so I try to work with them. Lots of dogs lack confidence around other dogs and like being walked somewhere quiet, for example. It’s also common for dogs to love exploring but have an unreliable recall, which is where tools like a longline can be useful.
Your preferences matter too: dogs who are water babies and can either be indulged (with a shower and towel dry afterwards, naturally!) or prevented from making a big splash in the first place. Both are valid and correct choices for different dogs and owners.
The meet and greet also lets me check how I can best support you. Does your dog only recall to “STINKY SAUSAGES” in high-pitched trill, rather than their name? No worries, I’ve bellowed stranger things into the woods! Dogs with health conditions might need special considerations but can often be accommodated too.
You never have to share any information you’re uncomfortable with but the more you do tell me, the better I can tailor my care to your dog.
