Out of office is finally on 🥳⛷️🇮🇹
Getting ready for a holiday is soooo stressful when you’re leaving behind 6 horses (4 full livery’s, who's owners are abroad) 3 chickens, a dog, a business and a holiday let… Italy you’d better be worth it!
🐴🦄🦄🦄🐴🦄🐓🐓🐓🐶
I have 2 amazing girlies looking after the horses and chickens and momma bear house sitting to make sure his lordship, Sidney, is still living the life of luxury he’s used to 😂🐶
60 hay nets made, fox proofed chicken coop, 4 A4 pages🙈 of instructions and a blitzed house and I think we’re finally ready to go!
So many customers worry when they leave me instructions that they’re ‘being fussy’ or I’ll think they don’t trust me… but after the lists I’ve made, believe me… I GET IT! 😂
I know my girls don’t need the instructions, but it makes me feel better 😂 I wouldn’t look after my horses for me.. so believe me when I say NOTHING IS EVER TO MUCH when I’m looking after yours! 🥰😘
See you all in April. Diary’s back open from Monday 1st 🌷🐣🐰

It’s finally the end of January 🥳… Spring is on its way people!
Wow! What an amazing start to 2024!
🐴🦄
We welcomed some lovely new faces and some very old faces from way back when I was about 14, still in school, looking after ponies to pay for my own!!
It’s been a testing month with a bit of every season 💨🌧️☃️🌤️ which of course resulted in a couple of new injury’s🥴 My poor head, ankle and knee have had a rough month 😂 but what a great month it’s been!
42 horses this month✅🦄🐴
Varying between 13 and 19 everyday! 💪🏻
Now I’m ready for a slower February, but by the look of my diary, I’ll have to wait a bit longer for some downtime 😂
Thank you all for keeping me so busy doing what I love! Here’s a couple of our lovely gang from January. Mainly full livery’s for holiday cover and of course our lovely regulars💕

Thank you to all of our customers for supporting Livery Services Wirral and making 2023 the success that it was! Without you I couldn’t run this business full time and do what I love everyday!

I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings.. but I know it will be great, doing what I love, surrounded by lovely people and amazing animals!

People are always surprised how far we travel and how many yards we cover 🐴🚙🦄

This map shows the yards we currently cover
🟡 - Any jobs, big or small
🔴 - Full Livery/Holiday cover only

On a daily basis we travel through Saughall Massie, West Kirby, Frankby, Thurstaston, Irby, Thingwall and Heswall stopping at multiple yards but can go further for bigger jobs and full livery.

On a standard day we’re looking after 15-20 horses.. which I know sounds ALOT! But due to the services we offer we are very flexible and can accommodate for much more.

A lot of our regular customers are people who love doing their own horses but work long hours so just need a bit of extra support with their daily yard jobs like poo picking, making nets, doing stables ready for when they get home from work etc, so a lot of the time, the hours they need are super flexible as the horses either live out or are already turned out before they go to work… so don’t be mistaken, your horse isn’t in a queue of 15 waiting to be seen in the morning.

All morning bookings (bring in/turnout etc) are done before 9am so no one is left looking for our car to arrive 🐴🥰

If you think you may need some help this winter and you can see we’re not too far from you feel free to send us a message on here or on 07767684612 and we’ll be happy to come and meet you and your horses to see if we can help.

Our lovely Livery Dennis🐴💙
Just over a week ago I found Dennis in the field with a nasty cut on his leg. I brought him in and cleaned it up and discovered just how big and nasty it was 🤢. We took him in to Ashbrook Hospital as a precaution to check if he’d hit the joint and needed surgery, which luckily he didn’t!

Dennis’ owner was going on holiday days after this, so of course, she was very worried about not being here to look after him herself. She’s received daily updates and photos of him fashioning every colour bandage possible! .. he’s been a tricky, opinionated patient 🙈 so naturally got his own way and luckily with all this dry weather he’s been allowed out in a small stable size paddock during the day and his recovery is looking good!

His check up is due on Monday and hopefully the vet is happy with how he’s healing 🤞🏻

Dennis has given me a great opportunity to recap my bandaging skills 😂.. so if you need any help with tricky horses on box rest in the future please don’t hesitate to contact Livery Services Wirral 😁

Did you know we provide:
🐴Day to day care
🐴Holiday Livery

🐴Injury/sickness aftercare

What a week! Apparently this is the week to go on holiday🏖️👙☀️… and the week for me to be put to the test with other creatures 🪰🐝🐈

We’ve had some lovely holiday Livery’s this week as well as all of our lovely regulars keeping us busy! … which has resulted in us having our busiest week AGAIN .. and breaking our record that we only broke last month! 🥳🐴🦄 Thank you all!

As many of you have seen, I’ve been suffering with an allergic reaction to 18 mosquito bites 🤯🪰.. so if you’ve seen me with a bandaged leg.. that’s what it was! As they started to recover I then closed my arm with a wasp under my armpit 🐝😩… unpleasant but not as bad as my mosquito legs! … finally to top off the week, as I bent down to adjust the muck heap ramp for one of my lovely customers, something large landed on my back… and WOULD NOT get off.. 🐈😂 slight panic and a few claw marks to show for it, but he did eventually jump down.
Roll on next week 😁🐴🦄

*** CHECKING HORSES AT LEAST TWICE A DAY ***

The necessity to check your horses at least twice a day, is something I’m absolutely adamant about, and make no apologies for.

I saw a social media post a few weeks ago, where someone was asking if it was ok to go away on holiday and leave their ponies, as they were next to a hotel, so anyone could see if anything was drastically wrong. No, that’s absolutely not ok; if you’ve got the money to go on holiday, you’ve got the money to pay a local freelance groom to check your horses twice a day. Most of the comments on the post suggested that was unacceptable, but several were very concerning. Some people were suggesting that it was absolutely fine to only check horses once a day, as what happens if they got colic/were injured, in the 12 hours inbetween the twice daily checks?! How is that justifying not checking on your horses?

And by checking on your horses twice a day, I don’t mean glancing over a fence to make sure they’re breathing…..although that would be better than the nothing that some people deem acceptable! I also don’t mean a 20 minute check over of every part of their anatomy, before anyone thinks that I spend my days performing two stage vettings on all of my horses!

If you’ve only got a couple of minutes spare, then you need to check that

1. Your horse hasn’t got low grade colic. If you’re not feeding him, will he happily take a sweet, and was he eating hay/grazing normally when you arrived?
2. Your horse’s eyes are both open and non-painful
3. There are no swellings anywhere on his body, but especially the legs; this is when it’s important to know the “normal” for your horse.
4. He is walking sound

The above will take no more than a couple of minutes, and may save your horse’s life. That sounds dramatic, but spotting a low grade colic, rather than returning back 12 hours later to an inoperable colic, is just one example. Spotting the start of cellulitis, rather than returning 12 hours later to an enormous leg and lame horse with lymphangitis, is another. There are many more.

No, we can’t watch over our horses 24 hours a day, but we absolutely must check them twice a day. Leaving a horse with a nasty wound, a sore eye, or, god forbid, a broken leg, for 12 hours, is bad enough, but leaving a horse in pain for 24 hours is neglect.

I will never forget the day I was called out to a nasty wound, at lunchtime. They had last checked the horse mid-afternoon the previous day. I explained that I could hopefully save the horse (the wound was over a joint), but that I’d need to do the dressing changes for the next few days. It wasn’t able to be sutured at that point, as it was 24 hours old, and infected. The response was, “well how much is that going to cost, because if it’s going to be really expensive, I’d prefer you put her to sleep now”. I told the (now ex) client exactly what I thought of them, treated the wound successfully, and thankfully never saw them again. (Although they did think it was acceptable to bad mouth me on FB for years later!).

If you’ve got horses, you’ve got a responsibility for their welfare, and this involves checking them at least twice a day.
