Our range of land crabs are semi-aquatic, meaning they thrive in setups with access to both land and water, usually around a 1-5 ratio of water to land. (Each species varies!)
We’re bringing in a selection of substrates, pools, and aquariums that can be used to make beautiful part-land part water ‘paludariums’, either by arranging substrate so the lowest level is water or by creating designated bathing areas with pools. Much more to come.
The majority of our land crabs are freshwater, hailing from wet rainforest environments, and do not need salt water. Hermit crabs, on the other hand, require a source of fresh & salt water to keep their gills healthy.

Hexarthrius mandibularis - one of the largest stag beetle species in the world with males growing to around 115mm (4.5 inches). Our resident male, known as Mr. Mandibles, is a handsome but moody boy. Sorry guys he isn't for sale, he is part of our breeding program.

Giant African Snails love to eat and they will thrive on a varied diet of leafy greens, fruit, some protein such as egg, dried mealworms or other dried bugs and calcium. Calcium is extremely important because without it the snail can't build a strong shell. There is also the risk that your snails might start to munch on each others shells if they are deprived of calcium!

Spider making another spider? Though this might look like your worst nightmare of a spider cloning itself, it is just a timelapse of a Mexican red leg tarantula shedding it's old skin in order to grow. Tarantulas like other invertebrates have their skeleton on the outside, it's called the exoskeleton. In order to grow they have to periodically shed the old exoskeleton and then stretch out the new one underneath to accommodate a new larger size. This new exoskeleton then hardens over time. You will notice that the fangs of the new spider are white. This stunning arachnid is the 'black mirror peacock jumping spider', or Maratus speculifer. This particular spider is a female, with males of this species being cream and black with long thin appendages and dark abdomens that they wiggle around during their mating dance. Native to Australia, Maratus speculifer grows to only half a centimetre in length, so they aren't typically kept as pets. Hissing Sid is our oldest and grumpiest male Madagascar hissing cockroach. He hisses as a defence when he doesn't want to be picked up and he has a different hiss to attract the ladies! Apparently, it works and we now have numerous baby Sids in the enclosure! Hissing cockroaches make interesting pets. They are great for children as they are large and do not bite, though their spikey little feet can be a bit scratchy. Tiny baby spiderlings huddled together in their silk egg sack. The babies will usually have their first moult inside the egg sack before breaking out into the silk hammock that holds the egg sack. At this stage momma spider guards the baby spiders against predators. Once the tiny spiderlings have left their silky nest they are usually on their own and momma spider ceases all interest in them though this depends on the species. Some wolf spider species carry their babies on their backs!
