Those of you who were at the water workshop a couple of weeks ago and tasked with the mark in the water and send ‘back’ onto a blind …here’s Kiwi’s version. 🥝
If you’ve been practicing it, share your pics/videos in the comments (if you can share videos in comments? 🤷🏼♀️!).
It seems this client misunderstood the term ‘Steadiness to shot’!!
📣 SOUND ON 📣
Establishing the root to the formation of an orange dog!
A little memory mark over the bank to let off some steam and get in the zone at the start of a session.
🔊 Sound on….and don’t blink! 🥝
🤦🏼♀️ This happens so often and is the most frustrating thing, and you probably couldn’t do it if you tried!
The bags then blew out of my pocket and down the track…but luckily Kiwi was happy to retrieve them for me (I’m pretty sure she runs faster than me!).

I’m so looking forward to receiving my personalised demo placeboard kindly made and supplied by Emma & Matt at Anglian Dog Works 🙏🏻
Place board training plays an important part of the training we do in classes…
….why not visit the ‘Links’ page of my website to order your dog their very own?!

Dave and Dora on a long retrieve over a ditch and beyond.
We challenged the dogs in this ‘Dealing with Ditches’ workshop last week by building up distance and teaching them to confidently cross a barrier (the ditch) as though is wasn’t really there - that ditch is deeper and thicker than it looks, and has water in the bottom!
Huge improvement throughout the session by all dogs, and some very happy owners 😃🐾
When it’s too hot to go for a walk…get inventive with your steadiness! 💦
This may look simple but for a water monster like Kiwi 🥝 it’s one of the hardest exercises. (Notice there are no ‘stay/leave it/sit’ commands as I want her to have the steadiness without being under command)
Between steadiness exercises we also practiced delivery out of water and the ‘shake’ command. We have been building on our ‘hold’ command away from water and will put this into action once it’s a bit more established.
Whatever your dog may be obsessed with/driven by, build on your training by using it as a distraction and then as a reward for doing the right thing, whether it’s water, food, toys, an agility tunnel etc!
When Kiwi demonstrated good steadiness, for a few throws, she was then rewarded with a blind in the pool, or simply a refreshing dip…the best reward in her mind.
You don’t need a huge mass of water, just a bit of imagination to help with the basics.
Kiwi is now fast asleep and dreaming in the shade 😴
Please feel free to share photos/videos in the comments of how you’re safely continuing your training in the heat.

G's Open Farm Sunday 2023
Thank you to everyone that came and supported. What a fantastic day with a huge variety of activities and experiences….and the lovely surprise of the East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity arriving 🚁
The dogs all did brilliantly despite the warm weather (they were probably kept cooler than if they were at home!).
He’s a clip of some of the highlights of the day from our area.
Thank you to everyone who took and sent pictures/videos as they watched 😊
If you didn’t make it this year it is a brilliant day out for all the family.

Gateway manners…. (Combined with some funky video filters!)
📣SOUND ON 📣
Every day we have to go out of at least 2 gates to our walks/the car. This is our routine whenever we go in and out of the gates. On just one walk that means doing this at least four times which takes little effort but really helps to instil manners, steadiness and obedience.
We mix up the order each time to really get them thinking and steady. They are only allowed to go on their name.
Have you got more than one dog? If so, and it’s not already within your routine, try it…you’ll soon notice improvement in your dogs manners and focus. 👌🏼🐾
When you’re that bit older now and a cocky pricked cock bird who thinks he’s some kind of agility weaving champion comes down in front of you during the drive! 🤦🏼♀️😆
This Barn Owl has become a regular at training and often stops us in our tracks mid session.
Beautiful and very brave …..and no doubt wise too 🦉 !
What a fantastic day running the Gundog demo alongside Sirenbirch Gundogs at G's Open Farm Sunday.
Dog posts to follow, but here is a taster of Roy from a Sirenbirch getting the crowds in!!

Such a great team of people and dogs, and a very enjoyable day all round. 🐾 ☺️

Puppy vs Squirrel! 🐾🐿
I thought fast and decided to see what happened if I added the 'stop' to her reaction to the squirrel....luckily it paid off so no training was undone in the process!
The second half of the video is simply practicing a basic 'stop' while she is mooching about so we ensure it remains to be a positive exercise for her. Both times I go to her and reward. After each film stopped, there was a lot of silliness and play as a reward!
It's important to get the basics in now so that in a few months time, when the wheels are highly likely to fall off, she at least has a solid level of obedience to work around! 🥝

Introducing distance to the ‘Stop’ (or until now, the ‘sit’ whistle) by using placeboards.
This was just one of a few exercises we used to begin teaching Otis that stop means stop where ever he is, his handler is, and what ever distractions there may be.
Notice that Amanda goes to Otis to reward him rather than calling him to her to ensure that he is rewarded for the ‘stop’ and not a recall, as well as to prevent any ‘creeping’ habits occurring!
It is important to mix up your ‘stop’ exercises so that your dog can learn to generalise the command, rather than only being able to stop in one specific circumstance.

Lord Monty has his very own podiatrist for after his runs.
He really does have all the other dogs under his thumb/paw! 🤦🏼♀️🐾
