Mansfield Cat Rescue registered charity 1193319 Mansfield Cat Rescue is a volunteer-only UK registered charity operating in Mansfield, Notts Our vet bills are paid for by donations and fundraising activities.

Mansfield Cat Rescue rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes stray, abandoned, and feral cats. All of our cats and kittens are fostered and looked after in a home environment by our volunteers. We have accounts with a number of vet practices that provide veterinary care to our cats and kittens including; spay/neuter, flea and worm medicines, and treatment for abscesses and other large wounds as needed.

Our vets also carry out more complicated procedures such as dental work, and damaged eye or ear removal as recommended. Any cats or kittens that are not suitable for adoption due to ongoing health issues, will be looked after by special long-term foster carers. All those involved in Mansfield Cat Rescue’s mission do so on a volunteer basis with no renumeration. 🐾 Please Neuter Your Cats! 🐾

Meet Vermithor. Her story is a tragic reminder of why it's so important to neuter your pets.

Vermithor's mother (or grandmother) was once a cute kitten, but her owners didn't neuter her. She was chased off by unneutered male cats, got lost, and had to bring her babies into the world alone. Vermithor was one of those babies.

At just a few months old, she was attacked by local males and ended up giving birth to litter after litter. We were alerted to Vermithor and her sister and tried to help, but it was too late. The repeated trauma left her with severe damage to her uterus and other internal organs. On our vet’s recommendation, we made the heartbreaking decision to ease her over the rainbow bridge 🌈 💔

We can't stress this enough: Neuter your cats! It prevents unnecessary suffering and helps control the population of stray cats. Please be responsible and make sure your pets live healthy and happy lives. 💔

Let's work together to ensure no more stories like Vermithor's. Spread the word!

THE RIGHT PLACE AND THE RIGHT TIME 🐈‍⬛

It certainly was a case of right place right time for volunteer Maria who came across a tiny kitten dumped in the car park of a well known pet shop. “Arnold” was found in a fruit punnet placed in a carrier bag, he was covered in human urine, freezing cold and wet. He is emaciated and anaemic.
He was taken straight to our vets where he has had a feed and is now in foster with a hand rearer currently being warmed.
Arnold is a very poorly kitten and it is highly likely he will not survive the night.

There is no excuse for this level of cruelty - animal abandonment does not need to happen.

Please keep fingers and paws crossed for little Arnold 😢

UPDATE

Unfortunately Arnold passed over the rainbow bridge early this morning 🌈 at least he was warm and loved in his last few hours of life 😿 Many thanks go to Animal Doctor in Ravenshead who saw him as an emergency last night. Unfortunately it was just too late for him 😓🌈

Hey folks! 🌟 Ready for another heart-pounding, stomach-churning adventure? Pete, our beloved abseiling guide, has retired and shut down his business. But fear not! We have a new contact, Dolomite Training, who are more than happy to take us dangling off Millers Dale bridge, Buxton, Derbyshire 16th November. 🎉

Here’s the fun part: you get to pay for the privilege of terrifying yourself! If we manage to wrangle up 10 people, it’s just £30 + VAT each. And if 20 or more of you brave souls sign up, it’s a bargain at £25 + VAT each. Such a steal, right? All other monies raised will go to the charity.

So, if you’re itching to hang off a bridge for our feline friends, please let me know. You’ll need to fill out a registration form and cough up your fee. Can’t wait to see you all there, clinging for dear life and thinking of all the kitties we’re helping. 🐱❤️

Any questions? Just ask. Or scream into the void. Either works. 👍👍👍

Here at MCR we have our very own ‘Batman’ cat!
Black and white cats are very often over looked along with black cats.

🐈‍⬛ Did you know in Canada a black and white cat called Stan once ran for mayor and his whole campaign was based upon encouraging people to neuter their cats?
🐈‍⬛ Black and white cats are known to be amongst the most chatty & mischievous of cat colours 👀
🐈‍⬛ Did you know the sad fact that black cats are sadly overlooked of most colours because they ‘don’t photo well for social media’. They also sadly still carry the stigma that they can turn into witches 🧙… something none of us has experienced yet. But we reckon if a cat turned into a witch it’d be worth a fortune?!

Why not take a chance on a ‘overlooked’ black & white cat like our ‘Batman’ Sophie and see if they have the same passion as Stan the cat who ran for mayor? Or maybe a black cat who can do cool party tricks and turn into a witch on command 👀🐈‍⬛

🐈‍⬛ A JOB WELL DONE 🐈‍⬛

Recently we were alerted to a little stray family in our favourite trapping spot. Shirebrook. After a long day at work and a pit stop with admin Heather who served up a man sized Sunday dinner we sent the A team to clear up this little furry mess - rescue owner Ce and trustee Sudders who are probably the friendliest and happiest members of our team 👀
Off they went with double RBF (if you know you know) but they got the job done, didn’t insult anyone and were back in time for pudding - that’s what we call our just desserts! Thanks for the chocolate cake Nikki 🎂

Two bonded adults and two spicy kittens with a better future ahead.
Huge thank you to their wonderful feeder and her neighbours for tonight 😁❤️

Any donations towards their care would be gratefully received:

04/08/2024

It turns out that Ronnie, our resident at MCR, is not only FIV positive but also has a fan in the legendary Turkish Olympic shooter, Yusuf Dikec. Yes, you heard that right! Apparently, Yusuf is a big-time cat lover, and if he can root for these "lost boys," maybe you can too. 🎯
Now, before you jump to conclusions about fostering him, let's address the rumors: Yes, Yusuf might be a hired hitman—but hey, when our rescue owner is accused of dabbling in some grey areas who are we to talk? We're talking misdemeanors here, not international intrigue.
But let’s get one thing straight: FIV is not a death sentence. These "lost boys," like Ronnie, can live long and happy lives with just a little extra care and love. They’re resilient and have a lot of affection to give. And contrary to popular belief can live with other cats.
Ronnie may not be able to participate in the next Olympic games, but he can certainly shoot his way straight into your heart with his purring. And let's be real, isn’t a lifetime of cuddles and companionship worth more than any gold medal?
So, if you’re looking to add a champion to your home team and don't mind a little FIV-positive charm, consider fostering Ronnie. Trust us, his skills are much more impressive than that old trophy collecting dust on your shelf.
Foster Ronnie and other like him because who doesn’t want to say they have an Olympic-level cat lover’s approval in their living room?

THE ARTFUL DODGER

Well if Dodger isn’t the ultimate lost boy who is? After spending most of his life as a stray this battered old FIV positive boy got his new start after being rescued a month ago now.

After a few weeks on pain relief he went to our vets for a dental and X-rays today which confirmed he has severe damage to his spine including fused discs explaining why he is so uncomfortable when being handled. He also only has one functioning kidney in addition to kidney stones - very rare in cats!
So today we had to make a decision - do we let him cross the bridge or do we spend £££ on a dental, long term meds and a special diet?

So here he is back in his current foster home post dental with his new kidney stone friendly diet. Dodger will be looking for a permanent foster home soon but in the meantime if anyone would like to contribute towards the costs of his care please do via

DOMINO
Beautiful old boy domino has been with us nearly 2 years now after finding himself straying. He has had a few gastro issues and has arthritis which has sadly got worse. He has been seen by the wonderful Robert at Priory Vets today and has been commenced on Solensia injections and will be reviewed in a month to see how well it is working.
Domino is living out his life with one of our long term fosterers. We support 26 cats in their permanent foster homes all with varying ailments. In order to give these cats the best possible lives after most of them have endured years of suffering we take on that financial burden. We don’t shy away from the difficult expensive cats that may never be rehomed, we actively support other rescues with some of their complicated cats, and we can do this because of your continued support.

To help us carry on helping them we have various ways you can donate…..

STRAY CATS

We are a stray and feral cat rescue and unable to help with owned cats. Sadly our waiting list has become unmanageable and needs our urgent attention. At this time of year the demand for rescue space is at an all time high whereas adoptions are the lowest they’ve ever been. For this reason we are currently unable to help with cats outside of the Mansfield and Chesterfield area.
If you need help with a stray outside of our current catchment area please have a look at www.catchat.org for a list of local rescues.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

We would like you to meet Arnie. This boy is not for adoption, he belongs to our rescue owner. Arnie, pictured here with big brother Sylvester, has been poorly for a few months now but did you know he is actually a superhero? Arnie has donated blood to over 15 cats and kittens over the last 6 years at vet practices across the East Midlands but sadly he has had to retire his superhero cape as he has become unwell.

During a more local shout for help, Arnie’s owner dropped everything to rush him to the vets so he could donate blood to a very sick cat.
Free of charge.
Just because she knew he could help.
How shocking to see the owner of this cat join in with the latest vitriolic attack on us which came on the back of an interview our rescue owner gave recently about the origins of MCR.

In the interview she spoke about the difficulties of rescuing battered angry lost boys and the cat crisis we are currently in. One rescue decided this was defamatory against them - we really hope none of them give up the day job and go into law!

The saddest thing about all of this is that these supposed cat advocates made the choice to create drama when they could have used the opportunity to remind people about the current cat crisis and the difficulties rescues find themselves in right now. And that’s the difference between them and us. We would be there again with our donor cats if this individual ever needed us despite her clear hatred towards us. Even if we don’t get along personally, we would share the message put out there by others if it just encouraged one person to neuter their cat.

You know what they say about trolling though - it’s a form of jealousy which is a good indication that we are doing something right. So thank you ladies for spurring us on to keep up the good work 😁

MONDAY MYTHS ABOUT CATS

Black cats are unlucky - this superstition surrounding black cats remains but in some parts of the world they are said to being good fortune.
Cats have 9 lives - if only this were true but sadly we all know that’s cats have one life so spend lots of quality time with that precious furbaby.
Cats only purr when they are happy - purring provides comfort for cats and so they can purr when they are frightened, in pain or feeling unwell.
Our rescue owner has a criminal record and intervention order - one of the more common ones we hear these days. Although this popular myth is absolute nonsense and emanates from a sad minority of people who just can’t seem to get our name out of the their mouths, the way she spends our money on battered boys an intervention order would be most welcomed by the trustees.
Cats do not like other cats - many cats do prefer to be the only cat in the home but of course many more will happily integrate with others. If you are welcoming a new cat into your home please follow slow introductions. Even if the cats get on, like us and our tea time wine, they often don’t like sharing so ensure you have plenty of resources for them like separate scratch posts, food bowls and litter trays to prevent a breakdown in relationships, something impossible to do where cat ownership or even sadly rescuing turns to hoarding.
Cats should be allowed to roam - this is a contentious one but many cats have spent so long on the streets fighting to survive they are more than happy to never venture outside again. Indoor cats can be perfectly happy with the right level of stimulation like beautiful foster kitten Maggie here. As a deaf, visually impaired special needs cat it would be completely unsafe for her to be allowed outside but she still needs lots of play and socialisation. Kicker toys and interactive toys are fantastic ideas for indoor cats. Maggie is back at our vets Friday so we will be able to update then on her adoption status.

DODGER UPDATE

Anyone who follows us knows that we have a different bloke in every week but sometimes a fella comes along who steals our hearts and it’s usually a battered old stinky lad who has spent most of his life as a stray. The Artful Dodger was a well known stray of over 8 years and supposedly “semi feral” but we know that once these boys have had their trouble puffs off and their pain treated they just need to feel welcome. And no one makes them more welcome than MCR, the original lost boy rescuers!
Dodger still has some healing to do but will be seeing our vets early August for his dental and some X-rays as we think he may have arthritis issues in his spine.

Watch this space for more dodger updates soon.

‼️‼️BOOTH CRESCENT, MANSFIELD‼️‼️
PLEASE BE VIGILANT AND KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE
💔BOBBIE💔
Beautiful stray boy Bobbie came to us as an emergency last week after being found on Booth Crescent with an injured hind leg. Our vets examined him further and it was discovered he had been shot at close range with an air rifle. As a result of this his bone was shattered and has had to be pinned back together. Additionally, Bobbie had also suffered trauma to his face resulting in his teeth being pushed into his gums.

Bobbie was taken to the vets in time and his leg is healing well but increasingly cats are being maimed and killed by air guns.
If you haven’t already done so please sign Cats Protection petition for tougher air gun laws.

Bobbie still has a lot of healing to do but any donations towards his vets bill would be hugely appreciated:
